Phonak Lumity Naida 90 UP BTE Review

@PeterH

He made changes and saved programs in his office as I watched.
They worked until my final appointment.

He hooked up my Paradise P90s. We talked. As we talked he scrubbed my hearing aids. He explained my hearing loss due to loud noise had improved and created an Audiogram that showed it. He explained my hearing aids would be quieter.
He said he would recommend 3 Audis I might contact. We parted friendly after a hand shake
Found out later all programs were gone. He had taken a year and a half and lots of appointments. That work was gone.
Went home. Had to pair my hearing aids to the APP

Ahh, seems like he created a new fitting, which would do that :disappointed:

I appreciate the wonderful audiologists and practitioners we have here
I’ve been self employed and kept a roof over my head. He spent lots of time but his setup was awful
I respect that he got me excellent hearing aids. I worked with him at his request. I’m happy he suggested I find someone new. I’m more than ticked how he did it. I had to go somewhere else and the setup is much better.

Your rant is fully understandable. The wrong domes and non-connecting right and left HAs is event out of my mind. You hadn’t possibility to use the full potential od your HAs.

I begin to figure out why introducing a mask program had helped you. It’s just that you probably finally got the treble gain you should get.

Hope you get more benefits from using your Paradises.

I had at least 12 appointments with the dispensing audiologist in about a year and a half. I said to him frequently:

  • I think you have missed something small…I think we’re close
  • and, How have you set up my hearing aids? (no response and no help)

I would send him emails as we set up new programs (what worked; what didn’t) that was at his request. I was optimistic.
Yet I couldn’t hear. Every time I got home I was told so…

Frankly the hearing aids affected me at work and at home. It was a heck of a year and a half.

So…I hear better but I often misunderstand, at home and at work. I’m still getting heck at home because I can’t hear. I’ve advocated better for myself at work declaring discrimination because I’m hard of hearing. However, it has hurt my work environment.

Hi Dave, here in Quebec the gov. has a program like you have that they supply Ha’s free to both ears if your still working, now that I’m retired I can only get one, add the fact that they are also quietly cutting back on cost, the ones that they supplied was below par, one big minus was that the delay in notification from my phone to the Ha’s was 2.5 sec, soI could not hear them, my P70’s are less than .25s, and since I needed new ones, connection was first, add again the these do not connect to my house portables like my old Audio B’s with the neck loop, so I took the T-coil types, but my hearing being down from 6 years ago, I had no choice but to upgrade, these are not gov. supported, so they cost me big, but I can hear pretty good, so one BIG step forward, one small step backwards. Repeating myself … I say that programming is vital, my Audi has experience with Phonak, so I chose these, Hate the ones with rechargeable bats, so I have the 13, with a few tweaks over the last 6 months, all’s good, just now my wife goes by in her Crocs scuffing a bit (she’s as old as I am) and the sound is music to my ears. I always keep in mind, it’s never like a good pair of human ears (wife has those) so now we have low stress retired bliss and a almost normal living style.

way back I started posting here again. My new audi–the one who dispensed my Paradise P90R’s said he thought he could help. My old Phonaks from another audi were 2 years old, and I couldn’t hear behind me.
Concern here from other posters was that he was just trying to upsell me. He actually did me a lot of good…
I’m grateful that they are controlling costs. I thought that WSIB was Ministry of Labour. It’s not. It’s an agency.
Programming is the key. The nonsense I’ve gone through for almost 2 years with my Paradise P90’s not being set up right shouldn’t happen to anyone.

I haven’t been able to hear for that time, and the previous hearing aids too.

An observation: going from one set of Phonaks that work to setup a new pair should be easy and stress free. It has been incredibly stressful. Worse than getting my first Phonaks from WSIB and provided by a magnificent audi that sold her business later.

This, Lumity Naida UP, is the BTE hook style? I’ve never had a hook style but i cant imagine it would be as comfortable as the RIC style, which also comes in UP (it is what i have). Audio Lumity L90 with UP receiver.

Hi Kev!
Very interested to hear about your experiences with these devices.
It’s great that you’ve noticed a significant improvement in audio clarity and ease of communicating with others and using your mobile phone via Bluetooth.
I believe that in the near future Boots Hearing Care UK will be able to provide access to REM equipment for more precise hearing aid fittings.

Yeah @DrakeEspinoza, I was told the Boot’s A.uD’s were pushing for REM… I believe, certain centre’s have the REM equipment already, but the roll out, might take some time? This thread is now about an hour or so, read time… But it’s fairly in depth… With the odd meandering off subject, but that is the nature of all threads, enjoy… At the moment, I am alternating between, Marvel 90 RIC’s with 105db custom receivers, and Naida Lumity 90 UP BTE’s, my left ear is inflamed with one of the custom moulds, the other is perfectly fine, the Marvels are extremely comfortable, so I am a day about, with Marvels & Naida’s, hopefully the inflammation will ease off soon… Cheers Kev

I have the TV connector on and if l need to use Target, l just turn off Bluetooth on my phone and then connect to Target. I don’t even have to turn off my TV connector.

It stops me, and it did today on Marvel and Paradise. No idea why.

I have the P70-UP aids. My TV connector is set to automatic. I have no issues connecting to Target after turning off my phone Bluetooth.

Hi Kev. I hope the inflammation is over soon. It amazes me how these hearing aids can be compromised or discarded for the simplest things.
My first ever hearing aid was a Widex in the ear. It spent a lot of time in my pocket because it hurt! I had it for about 10 years. That memory makes me really leery of changing from domes. In my case Power domes on my Paradise P90R’s.

Hi Dave… For years, I had recurring ear infections… Or perhaps, it was allergic reaction to silicone, I was never tested for allergic reactions! That went on for years… Until an NHS A.uD switched me to hypoallergenic moulds/molds (we spell them differently in the UK) Otomize was the only known cure for me, it’s a Steroid ear spray, doctors here are reluctant to give you Steroids, but I would refuse point blank to move from their surgery, unless they gave me Otomize… I always had a spare bottle on tap, I haven’t used Otomize in year’s, and raging ear infections, are a thing of the past… I am reluctant to sand down the mould, I am hoping it will gradually get better over time, or the ear canal will harden off? Cheers Kev

Hi Kev,

Aren’t hearing aids fun?
I never had allergies before. Now I do.

My first in the ear hearing aid was made from a mould. I used it in my left ear. When I chewed it squealed. It would wake the dead, so loud. Dog didn’t like it.

When I complained they took the time to make a very aggressive mould. Tight. It would hurt. So I would take it out. Used it for 10 years.

Point is I’m afraid of inserts. My first bad experience lasted so long.

I’m using Power Domes now.

Yeah Dave, I decided about 10 minutes ago to give the left mould a very light sanding, it wasn’t needing much removed… Suffice to say, that appears to have done the trick? TBVH, I don’t think there are many pains that equate to ear ache, there is something about it, that makes it all encompassing, you just have to remove that mould! Hopefully, we are now sorted, it’s a real pita, changing aids every second day, the Naida Lumity’s have excellent multiple Bluetooth connectivity, whereas the Marvel RIC’s only allow a single Bluetooth connection, that and the fact, the Lumity’s sound much better… But, I can easily forgo a less optimal listening experience, if it means less pain :upside_down_face: Cheers Kev :joy:

 The Naidas are BTE Lumitys. The SP was just released and would be fine for you. The PR would actually be a bit tight.
