Oticon ConnectClip - audio cuts out

Then for sure you will need the ConnectClip if you need to use with your laptop. I doubt that laptops will have ASHA support anytime soon like the newer Android phonse. Even with the newer Android phones that have ASHA support, I hear that it’s still hit-or-miss until all the kinks get worked out because unlike the Apple iOS where only 1 company manages the whole MFI/iOS thing, Android is used by many companies and they may implement ASHA slightly differently. Even within one company like Samsung, they may have to keep updating their firmware to flush out all the bugs that cause connection issues between ASHA and the HA companies.

If you want to use your hearing aids with your laptop, you will need a ConnectClip. I asked Oticon if they have plans to develop a Windows driver that would enable the hearing aids to connect directly to a laptop and they said no. For the indefinite future, the only way to use your hearing aids with a laptop is with a ConnectClip.

I am waiting because I have 60 days to return the aids less $400. The connect clip would not be returnable.

My *genuine Oticon ConnectClip * doesn’t cut out, but it is not delivering enough volume to my HAs. Is this something my audiologist can adjust?

Yes he/she/they can. Genie 2 end fitting phone settings.
You’re welcome!

Well, I see The VMan went batshi$$ crazy w/ screenshots for your edifcattion.

Hi Jim,

While you can increase the default volume for the iPhone and the TV Adapter up a little more in Genie 2, unfortunately the only volume control section allotted for the ConnectClip is for its RemoteMic volume, which is not the same as the streaming volume from the ConnectClip from the Android phone.

The first screenshot below is the Genie 2 control page for the ConnectClip. As you can see, the loudness control is allotted to the Remote Mic Loudness instead of the ConnectClip loudness per se.

Meanwhile, the second screenshot below shows that you can set the Phone Loudness a couple notches more in Genie 2 from the default value if you want.

I suffer from the exact same issue when I use my ConnectClip with my Android phone. Its volume loudness is simply not enough for me, despite my having the volume control of the phone to max value already.

Oticon should add another Loudness control for the ConnectClip next to the RemoteMic Loudness as well. This is a glaring issue with Oticon that they seem impervious to.

Now if you have a newer ASHA compatible Android phone and not an iPhone such that you can stream directly from the ASHA compatible Android phone to your More, then maybe you can adjust it in the Phone section of the second screenshot below because this Phone section is probably not exclusively dedicated for the iPhone anymore.

But your question is about the volume control for the ConnectClip used in conjunction with your Android phone, not the volume control for the phone itself. And the answer is there’s no ConnectClip streaming volume control in Genie 2 at all.

@Volusiano: I have an iPhone SE 2020

Oh, OK. I just assumed you have an Android phone because most people don’t bother using the ConnectClip with an iPhone, unless they want the hands-free talk feature. But I was under the impression that you can do hands-free talk between an iPhone and the latest More firmware now, no?

At any rate, you’re still stuck with not being able to up the volume in the ConnectClip via Genie 2 because that option is not available.

When I originally got the Opn hearing aids, I paired the ConnectClip with my iPhone, but I rarely used it because it was good enough to have the audio going directly into my ears and holding my phone in front of me if I was walking or just leaving it on the desk in front of me. The microphone in the phone picks up my voice well enough. After that short period of time, I didn’t even bother pairing it with my iPhone. I just left it paired with my laptop sitting on my desk.

Why are you not pairing the aids directly to the phone as designed? They are MFi aids that were designed for that pairing.

Indeed! In fact, for me the problem only started when I upgraded the firmware to 1.4.2 (!)
I should mention, MORE hearing aids, Android 13 (Pixel 6a) up-to-date.

Very frustrating because Oticon customer service strongly recommended the firmware upgrade “to solve connectivity issues”, e.g. connecting to just L or just R until the other is power cycled.

“Reliably” cutting in and out every 10-12 seconds renders the ConnectClip entirely unusable, which is way worse than the state I was in before upgrading from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.

I’m confused here because we’re talking about the aids being connected to the ConnectClip, not the phone. And the ConnectClip is connected to the phone. In this scenario, the aids are not connected to the phone directly, so increasing the volume in Genie 2 for the Phone section would be irrelevant for this scenario because that aid-to-phone direct connection does not exist.

OK, thanks @Zebras for clarifying that you know what I meant but still insisted that your audi told you it can nevertheless still be done via making the volume adjustment in the Phone section, despite this seemingly to be a ConnectClip issue.

I thought that it was interesting enough to be worth checking it out for myself. So I tested it with my ConnectClip connected to a Samsung Note 8 that I have (a pretty old Android phone with no ASHA support there). And lo and behold, what your audi told you is indeed correct. I could get my Samsung Note 8 to sound louder through the ConnectClip if I increased the volume on the Phone Loudness (as seen in the screenshot below) for the Phone section. I tried both the minimum value and maximum value of the Phone Loudness and confirmed that it makes a difference both ways.

Thank you for pointing this out, @Zebras ! I didn’t think it would work because my aids are not connected at all to the Samsung Note 8, except via the ConnectClip to the Note 8 through Bluetooth. I’ve always assumed that the Phone section in Genie 2 is for direct connection between the aids and the phone only, but apparently Oticon made an exception and let you use the Phone Loudness in the Phone section for the ConnectClip streaming.

What Oticon should have done to avoid the confusion is to add a Device Loudness parameter inside the ConnectClip itself (in addition to the Remote Mic Loudness) so that the device the ConnectClip is BT-connected to (laptop or Android phones or non-Apple tablets or whatever) can have its volume be adjustable right there in the ConnectClip window, which should be a more appropriate location for it.

So @SpudGunner , I take back what I told you earlier, Jim, that it can’t be done, because @Zebras has proven me wrong. Now you can ask your audi to make that adjustment for you to make the phone sound louder through the ConnectClip.

@Volusiano ; @Zebras: Thank you @Zebras And @VolusianoThank you!

I told you that way, way back!!
@Volusiano shoudda asked me LOL!

@flashb1024: I apologize, :zap: Flash :zap: … I musta missed it. Honestly - I have to read more carefully on account of my catharacqs.

I jes got my cathearacq sergury dun last August.
Don’t wait! The results are astounding, I tell ya!

@flashb1024: They say mine are inoperable due to narrow angles …
:pleading_face:

Holy shite!
That’s a bummer.
Just looked it up, here.
Didja get a 2nd opinion?

@flashb1024: No, because my ophthalmologist is a hotshot catharacq specialist and a better second opinion would be an 18 month wait and a 4 hour drive away.
