Oticon ConnectClip - audio cuts out

Oh, OK. I just assumed you have an Android phone because most people don’t bother using the ConnectClip with an iPhone, unless they want the hands-free talk feature. But I was under the impression that you can do hands-free talk between an iPhone and the latest More firmware now, no?

At any rate, you’re still stuck with not being able to up the volume in the ConnectClip via Genie 2 because that option is not available.

When I originally got the Opn hearing aids, I paired the ConnectClip with my iPhone, but I rarely used it because it was good enough to have the audio going directly into my ears and holding my phone in front of me if I was walking or just leaving it on the desk in front of me. The microphone in the phone picks up my voice well enough. After that short period of time, I didn’t even bother pairing it with my iPhone. I just left it paired with my laptop sitting on my desk.

Why are you not pairing the aids directly to the phone as designed? They are MFi aids that were designed for that pairing.

Indeed! In fact, for me the problem only started when I upgraded the firmware to 1.4.2 (!)
I should mention, MORE hearing aids, Android 13 (Pixel 6a) up-to-date.

Very frustrating because Oticon customer service strongly recommended the firmware upgrade “to solve connectivity issues”, e.g. connecting to just L or just R until the other is power cycled.

“Reliably” cutting in and out every 10-12 seconds renders the ConnectClip entirely unusable, which is way worse than the state I was in before upgrading from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.

I’m confused here because we’re talking about the aids being connected to the ConnectClip, not the phone. And the ConnectClip is connected to the phone. In this scenario, the aids are not connected to the phone directly, so increasing the volume in Genie 2 for the Phone section would be irrelevant for this scenario because that aid-to-phone direct connection does not exist.

OK, thanks @Zebras for clarifying that you know what I meant but still insisted that your audi told you it can nevertheless still be done via making the volume adjustment in the Phone section, despite this seemingly to be a ConnectClip issue.

I thought that it was interesting enough to be worth checking it out for myself. So I tested it with my ConnectClip connected to a Samsung Note 8 that I have (a pretty old Android phone with no ASHA support there). And lo and behold, what your audi told you is indeed correct. I could get my Samsung Note 8 to sound louder through the ConnectClip if I increased the volume on the Phone Loudness (as seen in the screenshot below) for the Phone section. I tried both the minimum value and maximum value of the Phone Loudness and confirmed that it makes a difference both ways.

Thank you for pointing this out, @Zebras ! I didn’t think it would work because my aids are not connected at all to the Samsung Note 8, except via the ConnectClip to the Note 8 through Bluetooth. I’ve always assumed that the Phone section in Genie 2 is for direct connection between the aids and the phone only, but apparently Oticon made an exception and let you use the Phone Loudness in the Phone section for the ConnectClip streaming.

What Oticon should have done to avoid the confusion is to add a Device Loudness parameter inside the ConnectClip itself (in addition to the Remote Mic Loudness) so that the device the ConnectClip is BT-connected to (laptop or Android phones or non-Apple tablets or whatever) can have its volume be adjustable right there in the ConnectClip window, which should be a more appropriate location for it.

So @SpudGunner , I take back what I told you earlier, Jim, that it can’t be done, because @Zebras has proven me wrong. Now you can ask your audi to make that adjustment for you to make the phone sound louder through the ConnectClip.

@Volusiano ; @Zebras: Thank you @Zebras And @VolusianoThank you!

I told you that way, way back!!
@Volusiano shoudda asked me LOL!

@flashb1024: I apologize, :zap: Flash :zap: … I musta missed it. Honestly - I have to read more carefully on account of my catharacqs.

I jes got my cathearacq sergury dun last August.
Don’t wait! The results are astounding, I tell ya!

@flashb1024: They say mine are inoperable due to narrow angles …

Holy shite!
That’s a bummer.
Just looked it up, here.
Didja get a 2nd opinion?

@flashb1024: No, because my ophthalmologist is a hotshot catharacq specialist and a better second opinion would be an 18 month wait and a 4 hour drive away.

Sorry about that, I know how bad it can be.
Those freakin catheteraqs can really mess up your vision.
I’d have failed the DMV Driver’s license test w/out the surge.
Canadian healthcare does have it’s drawbacks…18 months, unacceptable.

@flashb1024: If I hadn’t contracted shingles in my right eye, I wouldn’t have gotten an appointment with this guy in under a year … a specialist in the next-largest city would take longer.

Believe it or not - even with catharacqs in both eyes - my distance vision is better than 20/20! (So watch it! I can still shoot with open sights!)

I received my hearing aids back with 1.3.0 firmware. They work properly again with the ConnectClip and they also work properly with my iPhone, which is at iOS 16.2.1.

My first connectionClip started to have this audio cut-out issue after using it for about one month, then I got a replacement this Feb, and now the replacement just started to have the same issue again! I am contacting my audiologist to get another replacement.
The replacement may take weeks, during this period I am not able to use the computer bluetooth to join online meetings. This causes a lot of trouble for me to fully follow the online conversation.
I Hope Oticon can fix this issue as soon as possible.

Welcome to the forum!…

I have this issue too and as far as I can tell, the problem is not with the ConnectClip but with the latest More firmware.

Before you ask for a replacement, try asking your Audi to delete the ConnectClip pairing from the Genie software as described above by @mertgonul91 in this thread. There are also pictures on what the Audi needs to do (assuming you dont have a Noahlink wireless).

For me clearing the pairing fixes the problem albeit temporarily….

Good luck.

My More hearing aids were downgraded to 1.3.0 so I would be able to use them with the ConnectClip. According to my contact at Oticon, they have verified that there is a problem but they are not sure what is causing it. Until they know what is causing the problem, they won’t be able to fix it. I will post an update when I hear back from them.

A dumb question - how to check my hearing aid’s firmware version?
