DIY – Beginners, a collection of links to get you started

If you’re new to self-programming, below are some links to get you started. I’ll add to them when appropriate, and I’ll attach the URL for this post to my avatar.

If the material linked below looks like too much reading then here’s a short summary.

  1. get a hearing test (usually free)
  2. read up as much as you can stand
  3. download the software for the devices you have in mind and simulate a fitting session
  4. buy aids and a programming device, and cables etc. if necessary
  5. repeat step 2.
You can take those steps in any order but it makes sense to do the free/no-commitment ones first.

Hi Dusty,
I have Phonak S Smart IX Hearing Aids that were donated to me. My hearing graph is actually pretty close to what yours is. I am looking to adjust them and wanted to know if you knew where to find the correct “Target” version software for these hearing aids?
I thought that I read somewhere that is was Target 4.0, but is it 4.0 and higher? In any case, can you possibly tell me where I can get this software? I am stumped.

I also would have PM’d you this, but I don’t know how to PM someone on this site. I can’t seem to find out where I click to do that?

Thanks
-Bones-
