I know this is a UK site but it’ll tell people the correct cable.
You can get similar ones on Amazon but they are always wrong.
Phonak work as an output. The Amazon ones are always input. Think I have that the right way round?!

You are absolutely SPOT ON with your 3 observations here. I had justified the cost as my current TV Connector (or any device connected to the Marantz hi fi needed for audio output) is NO LONGER IN USE. I get some kind of mysterious interference that neither my husband nor I can figure out to fix. So currently, the Roger V2 is my only option for any kind of “streaming” audio for TV henceforth.
But the audio quality is - at least in this version - INFERIOR to the old TV Connector. I think you nailed it with the “mono to both ears” description. I hadn’t thought of that, but felt it was harsh like a public address system mic. Ugh.
The only time my Roger V2 sounded acceptable was when we were traveling for a couple weeks and I was able to get the toslink plugged in to the hotel TV. If the TV sound was completely muted and only I was listening to it, even the Roger V2 sounded amazing. I’d even get halfway down the hall to the laundry room and that streaming was STILL GOING.
It’s causing some anxiety, but my hubs has the volume up SO LOUD during our evening TV viewing that it completely booms over any kind of Roger tabletop use. And that’s all I can do here. I can’t get to the back of the TV to plug in a toslink cable like I did on the road, and all sound from that TV routes through the Marantz hi-fi. Like some kind of broken tail wagging the dog here.
Does anyone here know if cables bound together can cause intermittant interference? Cuz the cables connecting the TV Connector or Roger base to the Marantz are bundled together with cable ties to about a half dozen other wires/cables in a closet. Both the TV Connector and the Roger V2 have this issue: No audio at all goes to right aid, or neither aid will stream at all for long minutes. When the streaming kicks in, it’s a beautiful sound, but probably half the evening or more, this weird interference completely destroys any streaming. That alone is exhausting and frustrating to deal with cuz I’ll unplug and plug in the cables (like kicking a tire) and get a few minutes of streaming, only to have it blank out again moments later.
Sorry to rant and repeat, but it actually wakes me up in the middle of the night pondering how I can enjoy TV every night when the audio situation is almost intolerable. I don’t think a solution is for hubs to get “TV Ears”, but he’s got the volume WAY UP to catch all the dialogue that I’d get effortlessly if only I could stream properly.
OK! I just read this one. ACK! I should add this concern to the list of things I’ll need to get done at my audi’s on Fri.
I’m probably not alone here, but all these tips, tricks and hacks are overwhelming to me. I simply want some device that streams audio in stereo reliably. How is one to ever stay on top of what needs to be done? I’d be afraid that if I “reset” the connections, I’d lose a license or somehow muck things up so I’d kill streaming.
Again, while grateful for all the technology advances made by Phonak to help me hear better, comprehend speech better, and stream audio better (at least with the BT + cell phone option) I feel that they leave us high and dry on the HOW TO MAKE IT WORK level.
There’s no workshop, Saturday training, easy access to online INFORMED support or even a knowledgeable tech rep to help us work these things out. I’d like to ask Phonak Tech Support about a dozen questions, but they keep us at arm’s length requiring a support form to be filled out. Couple of days later I get an email from someone there who knows less than I.
Well, I’m ever grateful for all the DIYers here with answers!
I think this cable came with my Roger V2 kit! I hadn’t used it yet. The Roger base would still need to be plugged in to a power outlet on the plane (or to one’s portable battery pack). But then the smaller cable here could connect to the entertainment unit (phone, tablet, plane’s screen, etc.)
I find that US domestic flights have eliminated the back-of-the-seat monitor completely. So we need to bring our own form of entertainment on the flight. Hence my in-flight tech bag packed with Astell Kern, portable battery, cables, TV Connector/Roger, cell phone, backup aids, and yada yada.
At least they aren’t charging by the square for TOILET PAPER in flight … yet.
give them more time !

It’s such a shame you can’t get a TOSLINK cable into the back of your TV, it really would solve your problems, and not affect the rest of your sound system for hubby.
Yep! It’s like a 230cm screen set tight in a cubbyhole, wires going through the wall to the hi-fi closet. The TV’s not on a rack that could be pulled straight out from the wall for access. On top of which, we were told that ALL audio from that Samsung TV goes directly to the Marantz hi-fi box. So whether we watch a DVD, Amazon, local TV or whatever, all audio goes through the hi-fi box.
Ah, they can put a man on the moon, but this streaming issue is still our boondoggle. The equipment all came with the house already here.
It’s yours now. I’d guess not more than a few hundred dollars for a wiring/networking/entertainment company to install a patch panel with the connections you need now or might need in the future.
TV connect is probably best for that. It can be hooked up to many different devices, easy to travel with, relatively cheap, can be used in hotels and on a plane, and is pretty reliable. Your problem with it is most likely a cable or interference from binding cables together.
I’d go out of my mind if I didn’t have one of the media cables. I use it every day for hours, primarily with my phone.
You can’t use the media cable with the dock. Pick dock or media cable. For a long long flight you’d probably want the dock so you didn’t run out of Roger on battery.

You can’t kill it. Just don’t lose your aids, they won’t replace the licenses when they replace your aids. The licenses live in your aids, not the Roger (unless you pull them out of your aids).

Very well said! That is what I need to “sell” to hubs and get the funds to do. It’s clearly over our heads to figure it out. It seems unfathomable that someone can’t get a crew to lift the TV away from the wall, plug in the toslink, and then leave the rest of the cabling in place for the hi-fi box.
But … it’s beyond me to figure out. If there’s a silver lining here, it’s that my Phonak Lumity Life aids do VERY well with no streaming in the TV room. But I know I could do better with effortless streaming.
Thanks to ALL for your support and suggestions. Fingers crossed I’ll resolve this issue once and for all. I had no problems till last June, so that timing also looms in my mind. What changed here? No idea.
I can’t remember if you said that the back of the amplifier was accessible, if it is can you use an inline extractor to get sound out of the hdmi?
OK. Immortalizing my spaghetti boondoggle here. This is the monster Marantz unit I contend with:
And here’s the back side. You can see the green cable labeled “STREAMER” … for what it’s worth:
Think any kind of cable interference could be an issue? In truth, this very same setup - same cables and all - worked A-OK till June. Then, I’m thinking some gremlin got into the media closet and has been resident there ever since, creating havoc.
If it was working fine, my best guess would be that either you accidentally turned the TV connector off (2 second press on power button on TV connector) or maybe more likely the settings got changed. Looks like in the manual you need to have the amp assign mode set to 7.1ch+ZONE2, which is the default but perhaps someone switched away from that.
Do you mean the manual for the TV Connector defaults to that setting? Both TV Connectors (I have two of them) and the Roger V2 have the identical issue: intermittent failure of streaming. Weirdly, it seems to happen in the 7-9:30pm time period.
If you are referring to the Marantz setting (I apologize for my utter cluelessness here!) I can look into that…
MUCH obliged for any and all observations here. As x475aws says, “I’d guess not more than a few hundred dollars for a wiring/networking/entertainment company to install a patch panel with the connections you need now or might need in the future.” That is worth pursuing, too, eh?
Isn’t it down to when you got your security system set up as we’re said before?
Is the Roger doing the same as the TV Connector? Highly likely the security system then.
I meant your sound system. But if it works most of the day and then not during peak evening hours, then I have no idea. I thought it just didn’t work at all.
Turns out the ADT security panel is a RECEIVER - does not transmit anything. So it’s almost like a passive panel on the wall. On top of which, it was installed in mid-July.
I checked the calendar for all of June, and there was no work done anywhere near the media room or “Wizard’s closet”.
