OK this is my STOOPID question for the day: how does one turn off the mics on the aids? Are you talking about powering them OFF?
If so, I don’t do that. I keep them in the “default” startup program. When a streamer is ON (either the older TV Connector or this new Roger V2 stick) the aids automatically go into streaming mode to cut off most ambient sound and just stream audio into the aids.
When that works, it’s a BEAUTIFUL WORLD!!! But alas. I live in a complicated setup with Marantz hi-fi hooked up to the TV, plus the cables are in a monster’s closet with all the other HH electrical. So I’ve somehow started to experience too much interference to even use the streaming capability.
I can only “stream” audio with the Roger V2 stick in tabletop mode. That’s all. No plugging in to base and streaming to aids.
You can turn the mix between your HA mics and the Roger in the MyPhonak app or bia the buttons on your aids. (They turn from volume to mix when you go into that program). I’m not aware of a way to mute the HA mics short of the HCP doing it in target.
OK - totally GET IT! That is what I do now. I just adjust the volume on my aids AND/OR adjust the volume on the Roger V2 base to get to that “sweet spot” of comfortable audio.
I have a slight problem these days … my dear hubs (wears NO aids, probably doesn’t need to) has the volume up on a few shows to catch the fast dialogue and that puts me in a painfully loud volume if I want to stream over the ambient volume of the TV. Yes, I could adjust the aids to completely mute ALL sound except for streamed audio, but then I’d never be able to hear questions/comments coming at me during the show at all.
My dear hubs seems to always want me to answer or respond to a question or comment that would require me to get out of streaming mode, answer him, then have to cycle through all programs to get back in to streaming mode.
If I have a BALD patch on top of my head of utter frustration, you’ll know why.
On/with my Phonak P90s it takes a “medium long” press on one of the lower buttons to mute them. I think I had to activate this option in target. It’s quite useful in certain situations like crowded trains etc.
I use resound hearing aids, so my settings are different. but I think there is a way in your app to reduce the enviormenet sounds and increase the sounds coming from the Roger. Perhaps someone who has phonak aids will chime in as to exactly where. Screen shot of my “guess”
THAT IS IMPRESSIVE! I think the TV Connector, while old and quite simple in its use, is an EXCELLENT accessory for streaming audio from the TV, laptop or other audio sources it works with.
In time, perhaps the Roger V2 will surpass sales IF it can be kept relatively simple to use and easy to set up. I’m enjoying the flexibility of the Roger V2, and 2 days ago, I unplugged and boxed up my old TV Connector.
I’m pretty sure that if I pressed for a long second on my Lumity Life aids the mics would turn completely OFF, and even if I turned the Roger V2 on, there’d be no audio streaming at all.
I agree that turning the aids OFF is very useful in noisy places. F’instance on long flights - especially if I want to put on an eyepatch and sleep thru it. It’s the next best thing to floating sensory deprivation I know, LOL!
You can reduce it but not to zero. I think Ruth (@Zebras) posted the db ranges some time back but I don’t remember them with my Swiss cheese brain. Even reduced to the max I still hear road noise over the media streaming through my Roger on when riding in the car.
I can’t see a Roger device outselling the Phonak TV Connector for a few reasons:
Cost, Roger devices are ridiculously expensive
The streaming sound quality isn’t as good
Most can’t get real “stereo sound” from Roger devices in their base units. On both my Roger On & recently purchased Roger Select, connected to the same TVs via the same TOSLINK cables, I get a mono feed (to both ears).
My new (but just v1) roger on and my previous one both had the mono issue. Press and hold the pairing button to reset all connections, and then repair it. Afterward, stereo returned.
I’m not sure whether someone said this earlier, but rather than trying to stream on the plane with the charging station and the USB cable and a power pack, just plug the little audio cable that comes extra in the box directly into the Roger On and into the headphone jack that is usually located in the arm rest.
