Recommendation based on Audiogram

Hi everybody
I decided to get a hearing aid and I chose to buy remotely. They send adjusted based on audiogram then offer fine adjustments remotely. There is a 30 day free trial period. I now purchased an Phonak Lumity 90 LR. Does

this make sense based on the audiogram?

Your post appears to have been truncated.

But my Phonak audiologist has recommended that remote program for when I travel, should I need it. We’re still hacking away at our trial, but in person.

Let us know how it works out (fine tuning via app)!

First ever hearing aid? I can’t think of a better way of throwing my money out the window.

Welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on making the step to better hearing. Nothing wrong with your approach, it’s all about you hearing better.

Try not to get down about negative responses, we have great people on the forum as well.

Keep us posted on your results.

I agree with Raudrive. You have bought top of the line HAs that should work well with your hearing loss.

My guess is a lot of people are going to buy remotely. The savings are substantial. It will be very helpful to others if you keep posting about your experience.

Have you considered going to Costco? They have good prices and will give you a hearing test then program them for you. They will also do any adjustments you may need. They give you 180 day trials on the aids so you can try different ones .

Thank you all. Actually, I had a Oticon Synchro in 2005 but did not use it extensively. Here, I first went to an audioligist and tried a Widex 220 for a couple of days. That would have been 4K, while the remote purchase of the top-level Phonak is half. I am in Switzerland. I can still return it after 30 days for a full refund if it does not work out.

@Cytex: Personally, I’d have gone to Costco if that option were available. Do you have Costco in Switzerland?

I’m not sure what that comment was supposed to be Raud, but I was being as helpful I possibly could be. Especially since I asked if this was the ops first aid. If you’re not educated then the hearing aid world can be a minefield. My comment was to try to stop the op before he involves himself in something which might get him in over his head and cost him money. Whereas your comment Raud was to badmouth some members and not be helpful at all. I look back at my first hearing aid purchase and I realize now I really had no idea what I was doing. Just trying to help the op out.

You mean you want us to ignore you. A strange request indeed.

I wanted to mention earlier that two aids might benefit you.
If you Google “speech banana” you will see how both ears might be missing speech.

Do you fish in Switzerland?
I went fishing today and almost got a limit.

Good luck

ummm, at the least, you should explain your reasoning. For heaven’s sake, the OP is brand new and asking for information. Snark isn’t information. Say why you think what you do. Maybe we all can learn something.

Since the hearing professional is key to having good results with hearing aids, I think most of us here would say in person testing and fitting is paramount to getting good results. I know that even in person, the skills of the professional greatly affect the test results and audiogram.

For any good fitting, Real Ear Measurement is really required to adjust the expected program to what is actually transmitted to the ear drum based on your ear canal size and shape. This involves equipment that has microphones in your ears in addition to the aids. This cannot be done remotely.

I’m not being snarky. I’m being honest. Assuming this is the ops first aid I am trying to help him prevent what could be a major error on his part. That’s what this forum is about. If I need to be blunt I will be. I trying to help him. Stop worrying about whether you think I’m being snarky or too blunt and try giving the op some advice. If blunt is necessary I will be on order to he to help someone avoid the pitifalls that many of us have dealt with. Are we going to advise the op to spend thousands on aids that are end up in a drawer. If blunt gets his attention so be it. Too many complaints on this forum regarding being ripped off or poor audiologist who don’t do their jobs. If snarky prevents that, good. Stop worrying about my comments and give the op some help. If now is not the time to be blunt, when is.

By not being clear on why or what to do differently you WERE being snarky whether you intended to or not.

You gave them no advice but are criticizing others for following your example.

News flash: It is possible to be blunt AND helpful.

Thank you much appreciated. If I won”t be satisfied with the adjustments I will buy a separate tuning session, date an audiologist, or return the aid and go the classical expensive road.
Frankly, I appreciate different opinions and I am grateful that all of you share your experiences in a spirit of helpfullness.

Just be aware many Audiologists either will not service aids they did not sell or charge high prices. Very few practices are set up to unbundle services. They usually include services price in the cost of purchasing the aids. Prices you generally see quoted include those fees. For instance, in February I got some Oticon More 1 for the unbundled price of $2820. Most prices online at that time were in the $6000 range for the highest technology level.
