Recommendation based on Audiogram

Date an audiologist. Now there’s an option I never considered

I like to occasionally be blunt Bruce… As a preventative measure. Most folks appreciate that you are trying to be helpful, and it may come across as being snarky, or cantankerous, that perhaps doesn’t equate to being helpful, in some folks eyes… Somewhat like hearing loss, we all interpret some words differently, and occasionally our choice of words on a thread are perhaps the rub, being blunt, then inevitably some folks take umbrage! But, I believe most assuredly @hass5744 intention is to help his fellow HOH… Again like hearing loss, we are all different…Cheers Kev :smile:

I suspect their primary language is not our imprecise English. I think some people use translation software to communicate with us.

Maybe you’re right. What’s another word for snarky. Hi how silver… Away

I almost had that urge too.

@Cytex
I would take advantage of the 30-day free trial. Use their remote support as often as possible. Maybe you will be satisfied in the end or return them.
Also, be aware that HAs can only help, they can’t completely correct like glasses.
However, as a not-so-experienced user, it might on the other hand be helpful if you could work with a local Audi first. Then you’ll get experienced and see where the limits are. I myself bought my first two sets locally. But to be honest, I was never satisfied with the settings. Today I go the DIY route with hearing aids purchased online.
I also doubt finding an Audi willing to adjust the HA you didn’t buy from them will be possible.
Check this out during the 30-day trial period if you want to go that way.
Did you order them in Switzerland? Then the seller should also be able to help with IV (if you are not yet 65) or AHV. To receive a partial payment. It’s a bit complicated if you have to do it yourself the first time.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a Costco here in Switzerland.

Good luck!

@hass5744 : I agree, and I think that (a) you give sensible advice, and (b) you’re blunt, and I like it!

Buying a hearing aid is akin to trench warfare - buyers face a barrage of misinformation, disinformation, and marketing hype. Hype like “You can buy remotely and get a good first fit.” I’ll bet you that 99% (speaking of non-DIYers) who are satisfied with the performance of their devices will credit an audiologist who employs Best Practices [Edit: Or who has years of practical knowledge and success to permit them to use other methods.] - practices like REM that, as has been pointed out, cannot be deployed remotely), and who has worked with them at a personal level to help them achieve the best results, considering their loss.

Something has, obviously, convinced the OP otherwise. I think it’s wrong and false to pat his hand and tell him that he’s made the best choice.

And that’s all that’s been said … no harm has been done - nobody’s been insulted - some excellent alternatives to the OP’s first choice have been offered for consideration and civil discussion.

Where’s the beef?

Thank you, yes I ordered from Migelino. The DIY route would be my preferred way. I have read there is a section here with advice - will check it out.

Yes, two aids would be better. We do fish in Switzerland, and I was growing up with a fishfarm.

Sure, be blunt to a newbie. But then explain why you’re being blunt. The newbie is trying to wade through a complex situation. Telling him or her, “you’re throwing away your money” and then walking away comes off as insulting, frankly, and gives no way forward; The OP is new and doesn’t realize that every word out of your mouth is to be worshipped and glorified. Humble yourself and condescend to explain your exalted reasoning, oh great one. I’ll burn a hamburger in praise. Wait, sorry, my gym socks fell onto the barbecue. Oh well. them’s the breaks.

@jeffrey: This is a fair point, and well taken, however, on the other side:

  1. Any noob who’s done even a little wading around our pool should have encountered ample reasons why the “remote buy for first aids” decision is bad;
  2. The issue is best addressed a priori and not ex post (after the fact);
  3. Mother tongue may be a factor, but this OP came off to me like he already had all the answers;
  4. Is it really so demeaning to follow up a post like @hass5744’s with a “Oh? What makes you say that?” :That’s the way bar conversations start - not with a "helpful suggestion " (that usually gets a MYOFB);
    5.It makes me wonder why we come here - for style, or for content?

In German there is a saying: Wer nicht hören will, muss fühlen.
I do not translate as it looses its beauty.
