Well, I updated to 15.4 and, yes, I lost pairing with the app, but NOT with the iPhone. They were still paired, so in order to pair with the app, I had to “lose the pairing” in the iPhone’s Accessibility Settings and then Pair the aids again and then restart the app. This makes it an Oticon app issue, NOT an iPhone pairing issue, which is why those who don’t use the app didn’t have any issues after updating. Oticon will need to update their app. Let’s see if they do.
WOW! This thread has been very helpful to me! I’ve learned that I don’t need the ON app to monitor my HA charge level! The iPhone will tell me …
I can easily log my daily usage in my personal health journal. Goodbye ON!
Thank you all for your insights, gentlemen!
I keep a daily journal, as well as a health journal. And have been keeping the daily journal since I was 6 years old.
You can also control the HAs by invoking the accessibility shortcut on the iPhone by double tapping on the back of the phone. I find it easier than triple clicking on the power button…
Thanks for that info. You can pretty much do everything the app can do by touching the ear icon in the control panel menu. You can change programs, adjust volume, and mute the aids. The only two things you can’t do are change the streaming eq and switch on the More sound booster. Neither do much. Great to know.
I feel stupid for not trying the innate Apple Accessibility controls long ago … I could have ditched the useless ON app last year.
And … I think @cvkemp is correct: there IS less battery drain without the app.
[My $0.02, FWIW/YMMV]
I think we have all learned some new things that we can do without the app.
@cvkemp: Something puzzles me - I checked my battery charge on my iPhone controls. The phone says that I have 40% left on the left and 50% on the right. That seemed like too much of a spread that I have never seen before, except when my batteries failed back in August, or so. I reinstalled the app just to verify the batteries, and the app says 42% left, 43% right, which is what I’ve always seen it read at this time on a normal day.
There are two take-aways from that:
- The innate battery meter in the iPhone is not accurate, and
- The ON app is not using any more HA power than the iPhone controls
Because my waking days are so long, I frequently run my hearing aids down to the 15% level and below, at the very end of the day. I don’t want to deplete them any more than that, lest I overtax the batteries’ charging parameters, so - ready for bed or not - when they indicate to me they’re at 15% or less, I’ll pop them in the charger for 15-20 minutes. It’s surprising how quickly they’ll come back up to 50%.
Soooo … perhaps I had better not be in such a rush to delete the app, if the battery meter isn’t any more accurate than that.
🫤
Yep the IPhone only does it averaging so 94% rounds down to 90% and 95 rounds up to 100% My normal day is less that 16 hours, and since I have been down with a sinus cold and bad headache it has been more like 12 hours. My Audiologist has told me that my aids will warn me at 30% battery left and I have got the warning a few times. I am guessing he set it up in the Gene2 software because I never set any up on the app.
@cvkemp: Thanks for the clarification, Chuck. I suspected that rounding might be the culprit, although I thought it would round to the 5 and not to the 10! I’m not sure I can live with that broad a range of rounding error.
[FYI, My aids beep me at 15%, 10%, and 5%. I did not set those values, either, nor was I consulted by my audiologist.]
My wife MacBook Pro is running Intel I5. I should be able to use Noah link with that. I’m sure she’ll let me use her laptop.
I have the 2021 M1 pro. From what I read it to hassle to emulate windows on that because it’s an ARM-based processor.
I received an email (from a prior Audi office) stating same connectivity issues with iOS 15.4 update for Starkey and Resound.
No mention of Oticon And it says Starkey and Resound are working to upgrade their aids software. Same solution is to re-pair each time.
So - the issue isn’t just with Oticon and appears it is not the app causing it. We already knew the On App is less than dependable without the 15.4 upgrade.
Now I am also hesitant to upgrade the firmware for the Mores.
While it is not caused by the apps, because of the update, the apps are no longer able keep their connection and must be re paired AND long term, the app developers need to fix the issue. Unfortunately, issues like this are a fact of a software developer’s life and are often why there are app updates after the underlying OS is updated! By the way, since repairing with the iPhone and app, I have had no further issues; it just works.
Shhh…don’t tell anyone. I don’t wanna jinx anything… I’m having no trouble with my more 1s
Well, my Oticon app unpaired again. I didn’t reset the phone or the app, but it unpaired anyway. Come on Oticon update your app. In the meantime, I am now using the Apple accessibility app. It works fine.
Sorry bro. I don’t know why I’m not having trouble, but I feel like a cartoon character running with a bomb. It hasn’t affected me yet.
Yes the Oticon app has issues and has seemed to have it from the beginning. An honestly no software has ever been perfect or will ever be. I do not use the app anymore, and there seems to be either an issue with the IOS15.4 or in the firmware of the More aids, but I suspect that Apple made some firmware updates in the latest 15.4 updates that didn’t get noted or was done at the last and the hearing aid companies haven’t had time to make needed changes. My More1 aids aren’t updated to the latest firmware and my issues are minor.
Good for Oticon for notifying you. I’ve heard about this issue and it affects all of the big 5 products. I have Resounds and have heard nothing from them.
After a little troubleshooting:
I have the IPhone 13 mini and the iPad mini 5, the iPad isn’t on Oticon’s list as working with hands free, and my More1 aids aren’t updated for hands free. I do not have the Oticon app installed. My aids are paired to both iPhone and iPad. Now that the basics are out of the way. My aids will always reconnect to my iPad but after disabling the aids from the iPhone by way of disabling Bluetooth on my iPhone the only way to get my aids to reconnect to the iPhone is to disable Bluetooth on the iPad and restart my iPhone. But my aids have no issues connecting to the iPad an any time. Both iPhone and iPad are at IOS15.4. So it appears that the issue must be with the IOS devices that have the capability for doing MFI hands free.
This is my simple observation.
Have iPhone 13 pro max, Oticon more 1, issue started with update to firmware for two way phone call using ha mic’s 1.1.3 ?, iOS would not connect, or drop when connected ( needing to reboot/repair phone ). So tried the ON app and it would connect when IOS would not.
First day available updated phone to 15.4 hopping it would fix IOS connection issues nope. Now when using only IOS and connecting to tv streamer the iOS will show no ha connection or when connected will not change volume on mic’s, just the streamer part. Looks like TV Bluetooth overrides iOS functions and the ON app is using its own Bluetooth connection. So most time don’t use ON app, and when IOS is not working just use buttons on HA’s or if have time reboot/repair ha’s… and like others have said oticon and apple point the finger at the other for the issue. Again for me started on the firmware update, so that part is Oticon… My AUD did get oticon to say they are working on a possible firmware update. No time line!
Hopping fix will be before next new model/line of HA (replace more)
