Oticon Chili

I think too that Chili appears absolute similar in size to the Naida.

Thanks Myfairlady. I bet you have the prettiest earmolds around!

xbulder said that is not the correct Nadia model for comparison.

the size
chili : Naida SP – is just the same.

Naida UP is a hunk

Does anyone here know the difference of the feedback software to both, Naidas vs Chili ???

@xbulder: i consider Naida SP as “rival” for Chili. it was introduced officialy as strongest SP, so for me it’s a SP.

@all: Chili is definitely smaller. Naida is curved along the body and Chili isn’t, so Chili lies more attached to the head than the Naida does.
I’ve seen kids wearing Naida and wearing Safari SP (which has Chili-size) and the Safari SP grabs better on the little head…

I belive the only diference in MPO between the Naida UP and the chili is 1db for the nadia
yet the Chili is smaller…

I haven’t posted in a while. I hate the Naidas and have been just waiting for something new.

Is is a true Naida UP competitor? The fitting range chart doesn’t shows it only going to 100dB at 125 Hz, where as the Naida UP goes down to 120 dB…I am yet to see a product that does that too. I don’t care about size or discrete colors. I’d wear a hot pink banana on my ear if it didn’t have anything to do with being a Naida.

Dear Jenny, i lurked in your blog… You have very nice ideas to pimp up the HA, nice beads covering the tube… I 'll catch this

to chili vs NaidasUP: I dont believe that Chili is a real challenger to Naidas. The chili has advantages (Sound round and soft, no artefacts) but cannot clearly focussing the sh, f, sss etc . Speech discrimination is quite better in the Naidas, but natural music sounds atrociously, here you must help with a special program, but its not the heaven.
This is no evidence, only MY hearing experience.

Additionally I am trying another HA : the new Starkey S 9 IQ.
These are the similar level like Naidas and Chili. They come out Very light and small, amazingly powering.
My first impression: Chili, Naidas, Starkey S IQ => neck to neck race

What do you mean?

Is here anyone who can explain the technical differencies of those three HAs???

Chili comes in 3 price points… you need to compare apple to apples…

Xbulder, You’re right !
Please take Chili 9 SP, Naida 9SP, Naida 9 UP , Starkey SIQ 9 and
Starkey SIQ11.
o k??? Please, correct me, if there are bananas and apples and others mixed…

It is a small BTE. My audi had an empty “demo” model Chili for me to look at today and believe me, it is much, much smaller than the Sumo. The pictures are deceiving because Chili is actually smaller than a tradtional BTE and very small for a super power BTE.

I hope to try out a set this winter!

P.S. Her estimated prices were similar to the Epoq.

I have fitted 20 so far. Im getting really really good results. This are Naida Killers for sure.
For the me Sp7 seem to be a good balance between price and features. I tried to fit a long term analogue user and seem to like Floating linear gain quite alot… I think they are on to something…

I ordered a set of Chili SP9’s today. I’ll be the first one with them in my clinic (Toronto, Canada). I’m moving up from a set of ReSound Azure AZ80-DVI’s. I’ve read through this thread and while I’ve never actually tried the Naida’s before, it’s good to hear the Chili’s are the Naida Killers

I have to say the bluetooth feature for phones and music is something I’m looking forward to. It’ll be great to be able to hear the phone without trying to wedge it as close to the mic as possible for a change.

looking forward to sharing my experience and learning more about these little wonders of technology. They sure are small for SP’s, they’re about the same size as my BTE Azure’s.

Cheers.

I have fitted quite a few, they are NAIDA KILLER!

Let us know how you like them. I am considering getting a set this winter and would love to hear your experience with them.

I was fitted with the Chili SP9 yesterday. I have severe hearing loss and have really struggled with finding aids that work well for me in the area of speech discrimination. I’ve recently trialed the Audeo Smart, the Naida and the Microtec Axio. My experience has been that WDRC aids interfere with the finer portions of what some users call the “speech envelope”. In other words, I perceive distortion or muddled speech clues with these types of instruments and I did poorly with them. My audie had me trial the Sumo as well and while I did much better with the Sumo, I had heard about the Chili coming out and wanted to check out the new technology before buying into the old.

Out of the box, on the initial fit, I was extremely impressed. To me, the Chili sound is fuller, more natural and, talking in the office with the audie, I detected none of the aforementioned perception of speech distortion. They sound linear or analog in the (quiet) office environment and I mean that as a compliment.

I took the Chili’s to a torture test last night, a very noisy restaurant and bar environment. I was very impressed. My audie had set two programs up for me to cycle through. One was with less compression than the other. What a difference! Not sure which would be more beneficial to me as the main or base program yet, though. I’ll try to post on my experience with the Chili’s in the future.

Anyway, I was looking at some of the information Oticon has at their website and noticed that they consider the Agil to be an aid that can also serve the severely hard of hearing. So, as it seems that the Agil and the Chili have almost identical technology, my question is why would I not go to the Agil instead, since it is a much smaller aid and, provided the feedback cancellation is sufficient, I may be able to use a RITE. (My trials with the Phonak and Microtec aids involved RITEs and that part of the equation was not a problem for me. No feedback issues.) Does anyone have any commentary on a Agil Pro versus Chili SP9 decision?

Paul

Paul, very good to hear about your initial results with Chili. They certainly seem to be going well.
With regard to Agil vs Chili, depending on exactly how it is programmed, the rationale on which the Chili is based is more focused towards those with severe to profound losses and tends to use less compression in its default form.
Another thing to keep in mind is that (at least in theory) the Chili should be a little more reliable as Oticon has invested a lot of money in to making it more resistant to moisture and generally more robust. In my own experience of fitting RITE products vs standard BTEs, RITE products tend to have a higher incidence of problems usually as a result of the receiver being damaged by wax/moisture or the receiver wires being broken.
Also, the volume control on the Chili is a numbered analogue wheel which I know many hearing aid users (especially with severe to profound losses) prefer over the digital controls of most other current models, including the Agils.

Matt

I’m a week into my new Chili SP9’s and they’re certainly working better than my previous ones. I’m really glad to hear they’ve worked on sealing them better as my last pair (ReSound Azure BTE) failed with moisture damage (admittedly after a sweltering summer…)

I’ll post some quick observations while I can - I’ve got three programs setup right now. Normal, Noise Reduction and Music. The normal one is for everyday use and works well, the two sides seem slightly unbalanced, but i’m going to discuss that at my followup appointment next week. The real change is in the noise reduction mode - I had my audi set it to maximum noise reduction in this program and then took them out on a torture test, the company holiday party at a noisy restaurant. I was flat out amazed at how well it could pull down the background sound to the point I could hear people across the table and over a spot or two - something that would have been impossible with my ReSounds.

Later on that night there was dancing and loud music. The noise reduction was so efficient that -I could not tell what song was playing- it simply disappeared the loud music to the point I could talk to people beside me within 10 feet of the speakers but not really hear any music - and it was being played at a good volume. Thats something I could not have done previously as the old aids even on noise reduction would amplify all the sound around me for the most part. I actually had to switch it to normal mode so I could hear the music when I wanted to boogie a little bit

Also of note, and I don’t know how prevalent these things are as I’ve never had one before but the streamer unit is -amazing-. It solves my #1 stress - talking on the phone. Paired to my bluetooth mobile I can take calls and hear perfectly in both ears. I’m suddenly happy to take calls instead of trying to avoid them and SMS instead. I also use the cable to stream music from my ipod and that works really well also. I’ve been listening mainly to DJ mixes and the quality sounds excellent, good bass, mids and highs - which I wasn’t expecting. It’s super cool how you can have the mic’s turned on and talk to people who come up to your desk while you’re listening to music and be able to hear them. I’ve been turning off the mic’s on my transit ride home when I dont need to be able to hear ambient sounds.

One thing I haven’t noticed - and maybe someone with experience can help here is how when the two aids are paired its supposed to gain up voices on one side and reduce sound in the other as i saw in the marketing material. Maybe its a subtle effect I haven’t noticed or is that a setting in the configuration program ? The aids are paired in the sense pressing one program button switches both aids, but I haven’t noticed much sound tracking across them. I’m the first Chili user at my audi so we’re both learning a bit as we go along. I head back next week and wouldn’t mind suggesting some tweaks if anyone has some pro tips for me.

Thanks! and thanks to Oticon for making these little wonders.

Nadia Killers for sure…

xbulder: With my mild low frequency hearing loss, do you think the Chili will work for me?

I plan to get fitted for them before Christmas and wondered what you thought.
