yeap you should be fine… try either the SP 7 or the SP9
Thanks xbulder. I’m going with the SP9s for the trial.
I’ve already got a Streamer with my Epoqs so it should be a smooth transition. I hope.
I was in mind to try Agil/Agil pro power bte before christmas but chili sp7/sp9 seems to have similar features. What do you think about what’s the more interesting for me? I can try them what pattern do you suggest? Agil —> chili sp7 —> agil pro —> chili sp9 ?? I don’t think that they will allow me to try 4 models…!
Here is my audiogram:
250 L40 R40
500 L50 R60
1000 L50 R70
2000 L55 R75
3000 L65 R70
4000 L75 R90
8000 L75 R95
Thanks you very much for your help for that hard choice.
They are similar in that they work under the Rise2 platform. It is true that
the SP7 is similar to Agil and SP9 is comparable with Agil pro.
Perhaps, the main difference is the bandwith. Agil covers up to about 105 dbhl with a
badwith of about 10hz while the chili covers up to 6.5hz and a is capable of amplifing losses of about 120dbhl on the higher frequencies.
It is important to note, VC has a number on CHili and you can only activate either music widening or power bass
Thanks for the answer! So, as my lost is more in high frequencies bet that agil will be more efficient? Excuse me but what is VC? Virtual Control? If so, you’re talking about program that I can have set from audi? And I can’t have a program with music widening and power bass together?
@Polaroid - VC means Volume Control I’m pretty sure. Its an analog dial with numbers on it. Can you expand on what you mean that only one of these two features can be active at a time? I go in for a reprogramming tomorrow. The bass response seems excellent when I’m listening to music via the streamer (like right now, with the mics on at my desk where anyone can come up and talk to me and I can hear them - great feature). I’m not a musician myself so I dont know what the music widening would do for me. I could put that into one of the program slots for when i’m at a concert perhaps though…?
Right now i’m finding certain sounds too ‘bright’. like running water and some women’s voices. Going to dial down the treble a bit tomorrow I think. I hope my audi can find the binaural noise management settings, either they’re not on or i’m not noticing how they’re supposed to work on my SP9’s. Any hints on settings that have worked out well for your clients, Xbulder? I’ve noticed a bit of a strange side effect of the noise reduction (?) where when i’m in a car or a bus with constrant noise, the background sound I hear seems to come and go a bit like ‘waves’, where i’ll hear the motor sound, then it will gradually fade out, then gradually fade back in and repeat the cycle over 30 seconds or so. Its rather odd. My old aids would just keep the levels constant. Is that floating linear gain or a side effect of noise reduction? Any hints appreciated!
Cheers.
Spacial Noise reduction is either on or off. The spacial noise management is the Agil pro
noise reduccion. THis is how it works
A new Binaural Noise Management System in Agil mimics the brain’s natural ability to focus on where to listen. It prioritizes the ear with the better signal when there is loud noise to one side. It can then apply more noise reduction to the instrument on the noisy side. This frees the wearer to better focus on a specific speaker
thanks synchro.
Finally I’ve ordered a trial for Agil, I’ll get next week. Don’t know yet if I’ll trial Chili or Agil Pro after that but if possible I’ll try them all.
please post a review
@polaroid, hope the Agil or Chili work for you. In my case with my loss the Agil’s aren’t powerful enough. My audi mentioned Naida’s in comparison today, and I had good fun mentioning how the Chili’s are known here as ‘Naida Killers’. Thanks for that, Xbulder
I also configured one of the programs as a ‘music’ mode. When I looked at it in the program it seemed to show all features turned off. I haven’t been to a concert yet but this seems like it could come in handy in conjunction with turning down the volume if its loud.
I had my streamer upgraded to 1.3 today - thanks for the heads up it would take 20 minutes, we set that going first before working on my earmolds. I cant say I notice any difference yet. My biggest wish would be to have a little more distance between the streamer and my ears. At my office I have it resting on the top of my keyboard streaming from a mp3 player and if I move my head too much I lose signal in one ear. It works fine around my neck of course. Small price to pay for being able to listen to music invisibly however.
Hi all
I have had an absolute nightmare with the Phonak Nadia SP since feb. After seeing 7 different audios on the health service here in england, and 8 changes, I gave up. My last audio introduced the Oticon Spirit Zests which is the same name for the Chillis SP on the National Health Service here in England.
WOW. I agree, the term nadia killers is exactly what they are.
The only thing I wish they had was the whistle/feedback blocker and the windblocker - the nadias did do well having these functions!
I think the sounds are more natural with the chillis, and they are easier to use, dont make a loud bleep that other people can hear when they turn it on or switch modes, and they do not cause frequency clashes/ridiculous compression. I also hated the nadia’s “selling point” which was the sound recover. This was just bizarre and sounded too robotic.
For those who are like I was last year - terrified of not finding a suitable digital hearing aid to replace my fab phonak analogue powerzoom ones, please try these first instead of thinking that sticking with phonak is the way forward!
I do require one last visit to the audio as on here people have explained the spatial noise awareness function can mean that at a wedding you can hear people at the table but not the band or DJ! I will see if the “normal mode” will help here. Spatial awareness has also been the cause for when driving - the noise will reduce but if i clap my hands (yes i literally drive hands free haha, naughty me!) it will become loud in order to collect the sounds but after 5 seconds goes quiet when it realises there are no more sounds to collect. Thats annoying - i will see if Normal mode stops this too and allows me to listen to the car radio.
For music generally though, on my cd player or telly, it is very good indeed.
Takes just a few days to get used to because they are fab and dont have a ridiculous amount of diff settings - hence why audios are loving it because the nadias requires hours of adjustments!
Polo
poloboyden: what is your audiogram? I’m currently on a trial with the chili’s and was considering of trying the naida UP’s after chili’s trial.
But from what you have said, it doesn’t seem like i should bother.
My audiogram is as follows:
250 L25 R15
500 L60 R65
1000 L105 R115
2000 L115 R115
3000 L110 R115
4000 L115 R115
8000 L105 R110
I would suggest giving the nadias a go just to compare, but I do not know if this will be do-able given you may be on a 30 day trial? I think the nadias have SO many functions most audios need to spend a lot of trial and erroring to finally know which ones you like and want to keep/get rid.
They have whistleblock, echoblock, sound recover, etc etc which all sound great but if you are like me and not used to them they can be far too overwhelming!
Hi All a newbe here,
Just had trial of the Chili 9 and now I am trying the Chili 7. The Chili 7 to me sound terrible when compare to the 9. When I first use the Chili 9 I had turn the surround sound system down and music from the 7.1 system on a TV show was great, but with the Chili 7 everything is just flat even voices. I know from looking at then specs the 9’s have the following additional futures:
Binaural Noise Management
Binaural Synchronization
My Voice
I going to assume that this is what made the Chili 9 sound better, can someone explain what and why.
Seems you are not fully satisfied with the Chili 9, since you are trying another HA. Just thought I’d let you know that Widex just came out with a new BTE (powerful) HA called the Widex Super 440. Its new on the market so I have no idea how it stacks up against the Chili.
Question - Does the Chili 9 and 7 have RITC and if so have you experienced any feedback. Seems lots of users of the RITC are experiencing nasty feedback when trying new aids.
There no feedback with the Chili. I trying the 7’s because of the price, but it look like you get what you pay for. The sound quality of the 7 is subpar to the 9.
Why do power aids do not have large bandwith. Is this good or bad?
Feedback mainly, but also it is assume that there is a high probability of having cochlear dead regions
Chili SP 9:
-Has 1 extra channel
- More identities
-Binaural processing
-Power bass OR Music widening.
Still not clear. If the bandwith is 6.5 as thr Chilis , does that mean they don’t provide amplification beyond that frequency or what ?
