New Phonak Roger On 3

So does the Roger ON 3 work with the Deepsonic chip in the Phonak Infinio Sphere hearing aids?

It works with that brand of hearing aids, but there is no special tie up, if that is what you are asking. It will connect to any Phonak aid from Marvel onwards that has the RogerDirect program, which is just a program that enables receivers to be installed and activated.

In my view, this is a disappointing update. What Phonak should be doing is integrating the AI technology from the Sphere into the Roger to facilitate further elimination of background noise, which could make it accessible to all aids, not just Phonak.

I cannot see any data in this release that supports any significant improvement in performance over than V2, so I don’t see any motivation to upgrade to it. But I am happy to be corrected.

The roger program in the aids doesn’t feed through sonic, but I suppose that could be changed. Two different programs as it is today.

Imagine a roger that uses a deep sonic chip and then puts out LE Audio/Auracast. Would adding the sonic chip be worth another few hundred dollars?

Well, yeah, I am guessing there are price considerations at play here, and how it affects the sales of the Sphere. If you have the Sphere, then you probably don’t need the Roger so much, and if the Roger has the Sphere chip and can be connected to other brands then that will affect the volume sales of the Sphere.

NEW Phonak Roger On 3 Detailed Review

Appears to be exactly the same as the Roger On V2 after you have updated the V2 firmware.

the unlimited #2 receivers is a nice new feature

The Version 1 is much improved after the update too

The only difference that I have noted between V1 and V2 is the headset mode. There may be others but I haven’t noticed them.

Can you tell me more about the improvements? I have V1, but I didn’t see or hear any difference, and I will use the new features rather sparsely.

I don’t remember “Stereo mode” being there before, and pointer mode has a wide angle option too.

Alright, I am monaural in HA hearing, so StereoMode can be useless for me (for now I don’t consider to buy Roger 20 receiver for Nucleus 8).

Regarding wide angle Pointing Mode, does it have a difference compared to the settings below?

Pretty much the same. Apparently it’s for situation like an interview panel

@Bimodal_user Is showing the table mode with the three nearest direction panels silenced. @PeterH is showing the pointing mode. It is all very confusing. I am looking at five Roger On iN’s which are V1 and all have the latest firmware 3.0.49742. All have the wide adjustable pointing as shown in PeterH’s picture and three have stereo and extended range settings. Three do not. I do not know why there is a difference. Maybe there is a hardware difference within the various HW 1 description. There does not seem to be a correlation between stero/non-stereo and the year of manufacturer. (this is sort of a hobby for me  )

Interesting… I don’t have the extended range setting.

In settings on Table mode

Unfortunately, I don’t have it… (I have V1 device)

I think what you’re seeing is due to how the aids were paired. For stereo mode to work you need to pair each aid separately. The way to do this is to pair each aid to the mic with the other turned off. Having them both on when pairing will seem to work as you’ll hear a chime and get mic input in both ears, but the stereo modes won’t be visible in the app. I ran into this exact issue last night and solved it by unpairing (hold back button for 8s) then re-pairing the way I described.

My Roger On is a “V2” which now seems to have V3 firmware after sending it to phonak. I don’t think there is any hardware difference between the versions. It is only firmware changes.

I don’t have these connected to my hearing aids at the moment, but a couple with v1 seem to have stereo based on the MyRoger app which looks like the one posted by PeterH above while others do not as they look like the app posted directly above by Bimodal_user. Both are V1 and both have the same software release. Obviously something is different. Do you have the MyRoger app and if so what does it show? Thanks for the observation.
