My question is does anyone have Phonak Paradise, Starkey Evolv or equivalent hearing aids with an Android phone that an incoming call ringtone and notification sounds are heard only through the aids, with nothing from the phone speaker?
If so, will you share what make, model, Android version and helper apps if any?
I checked the phone capability list for each company and tried a couple of phones that are on them. The aids paired with the phones, Myphonak, Thrive apps ok and the calls, media, and hearing aid compatibility toggles are on but both the phone ringtone and notification sounds were through the aids and the phone speaker at the same time.
The problem with that is with the volume level I need to hear in the aids the ringtone and sounds through the phone speaker are VERY loud.
A couple of old phones I have can do ringtones and sounds through the aids only but what newer phones can do it?
No problems with streaming or phone conversations, those were through the aids only.
I don’t have a great answer for you, but something seems amiss. I have Phonak, but not that exact model. I have a Pixel phone (also Verizon, although the network shouldn’t matter), and have for several models/years. Whatever the std Bluetooth version is, it has always gone to my hearing devices, and never also rung on the phone.
This includes ringing, conversations, and any other blips or noises the phone makes, in any app. Always thru BT>aids, never the phone speaker.
Wish I could be more help, this is an odd problem.
Currently a Pixel 9 Pro, before that a Pixel 6 (std). Both worked the same. Android is always current, as Pixel doesn’t let you fall behind. Right now it’s 16, but I think when I started it was 12.
I have a Phonak P series and a Zenfone 8. I mute notifications (not to become crazy), but these, and all other sounds (like incoming calls) go to my HAs (Bluetooth). I think this can be configured in the audio settings.
@RobHooft’s post reminds me of something. I keep my phone on vibrate only, 24/7. I never turn on sounds. Typically, nothing gets sent (via BT) to my hearing devices except ringing phone calls, or if I play a video. But all notifications are vibrate, not pings or sounds.
Just to clearify. Your ringtone and notification sounds (if they weren’t muted), along with phone converstions and streaming, are heard in your aids only, correct?
Hmm. I have a (std) Pixel 9 and Oticon More 2s. For me the incoming call ring comes from the phone speaker and not from the hearing aids.
I just spent 10 minutes hunting through the settings, and I didn’t see a way to configure the phone to play the ringtone through the hearing aids and not the speaker, which would be my preferred configuration.
Correct. Except notification sounds are vibrate only, they don’t come thru BT. But phone rings, and all conversations (phone, videos, etc) are BT. On the rare occasion that BT is off, then they come thru the phone speaker.
#1: Not sure, never had vibrate not on. #2: Yes.
I’m not sure if I configured anything or not. But any sound on my phone–alarms, phone ring, etc–all go to BT. Nothing is thru the speaker. And notifications don’t make a sound, vibrate only.
I have the Pixel 9 as well, and the Oticon Intent, but ringtone, and notifications all route to my HAs.
The More has ASHA, and when I had them it operated the same, so did you set your bluetooth pairing through the phone’s > Settings > accessibilty > hearing devices screen?
It should auto-route to your phone.
I actually paired my More 2s to my Pixel 9 using the Companion app, and thinking maybe there is a difference if I pair them another way, I deleted them from my phone and repaired them using Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices, with the same result: All sounds (media, system, notifications, etc. come through the HAs, except for the ringtone of an incoming call.
I’m stumped!
RU running android 16?
Were your Mores f/w updated to the latest rev. (I think it’s 1.4.4)? Check in the Companion app.
I still think it’s a Pixel issue, but I’ve never experienced it. Sorry I can’t be of more (no pun) help.
Oh, thanks. I didn’t remember which was the latest.
Did your audi have any clues? Most aren’t to phone savey.
Here’s an idea, call Oticon support at 855-400-9766, maybe they’ll have an idea, or try google phone support or chat.
I have a Samsung A25. I’m not sure if this is a solution. I used the phone to pair with the HA’s. I tried to use the accessibility method but that didn’t seem to work (ASHA maybe?). But I didn’t care because I already had it working.
I found my phone doing the same thing of ringing out loud instead of just the HA’s.
I swipe down from the right to get the pop out buttons and see bluetooth and press and hold that to get in to bluetooth settings. I tap details lower right. I tap the 3 dots upper right and tap advanced settings. In there I have an option called Ringtone sync. With this on whatever the ring tone is will play on the speaker and the HA’s. Turn it off and a different ringtone will play. So far so good. Now mute the sound. The other ringtone will play in the HA’s and no sound will come out of the speaker.
Edit: but not other notifications. Still looking for that possibility. Audio plays though with mute.
Edit more: Accessibility, advanced settings, flash notification will flash on notifications.
Edit again: I think I have the notifications now but I’m not sure what I might have done I did set the ringer choice to the silent one (not the mute or vibe). Maybe also the Audio device type: Others in the bluetooth setting for the HA’s. I don’t know.
