thats exactly what he said will do when they arrive. Wondered if there is a smaller, compact charger for the hearing aids so they are more easy to carry it when traveling. It’s a bit beefy for the size of the hearing aids i would say.
No just the same charger as the OPNS aids. I have 3 of the chargers now, one on my night stand, one in my Man cave (office), and one in my 'Go" backpack that is ready anytime I need to take a trip or be some where else over night.
I may have noted this before, with my OPNS1 I never was able to fully not hear my tinnitus while wearing them. The tinnitus was far less noticeable but it was there. With my More1 aids even in the quiet of my living room my tinnitus isn’t noticeable. This is a first for me with or without my aids my tinnitus has always been there before. Now if I mute my aids or take them off my white noise tinnitus is there loud and clean. My theory is that the More1 aids are providing just enough extra sound of my environment that it is naturally masking my tinnitus. I don’t have my tinnitus program enabled and have only used it a few times experimenting with it.
What an amazing morning it was at the Bible study class, we had a full house, and I was still able to hear and understand all of the conversations that was going on. You never get this group together without a number of smaller group conversations going on. Nothing got scrambled up and I was able to hear what I needed to. The MoreSoundBoost worked like a charm.
On my trial of Paradise. Big improvement. First, I had a session of telehearing with my Audi. She was having trouble setting it up so she called in her colleague. The colleague, unlike my Audi, is experienced with Phonak, so she not only got the remote telehealth session working, but she suggested some program changes. Much better.
Second, I found a good YouTube video from an ha user, on how to use the Phonak app. This was a life changer in getting what I want out of the Paradise ha. Now I have created a program that is letting me understand my 2 yr old grandchild! And improve hearing in car. I’ll see what I can do this week on restaurant noise this week. Now I’m learning to like the Paradise!
So I’ve had my More1 for almost a month now. I don’t go back to my Audi for the follow up until August. Updated impressions:
Overall, just fantastic. My initial impression was that they were more “natural” than my old OPN2 — that I didn’t think of the OPN2 as “digital” but the More1s seemed less like I had hearing aids in. This impression is confirmed and reinforced over the month. It’s so weird. It’s not like I have hearing aids in, but it’s just like I have normal good ears. With the OPN2 I was prone to take breaks from them. It wasn’t like I felt like, “Oh, I can’t stand these anymore.” But more like, “Oh, I’ll take them out for a while, nobody’s around.” With the More1 I just wear them and never feel like taking them off.Because they are so natural, it’s sort of like I feel they aren’t doing anything. But then when I take them off I’ve got my hearing loss ears and everything goes quieter.
So, in brief, they are working well for all normal interactions, and I’m enjoying music and all ambient experiences quite a bit.
One time I do notice a hearing aid experience is if I’m in a situation with some low level mixed ambient noise, like if I’m taking a walk with crickets and birds while talking to a human. In that case I find the human voice is relatively muffled compared to the background ambience. I did tell my Audi that I wanted to maximize my hear-everything experience and let my brain sort it out. All in all that works out, but I do have the experience of minor struggle to hear the voice, like if it’s a small group on the walk and a person might not be so close.
The other thing I did over this month was to go to a family reunion with about 30+ people in a big house and an echo-y porch. In that situation I could hear so many voices very clearly, but over the course of time it was a tiring struggle to sort out the relevant voice from all the voices I could hear so well. This may be a result of the setting of something like “full Omni” instead of “Neural Automatic” or whatever. Mine are not set to the Neural Automatic, I don’t think. Interestingly, I talked to some of the people at this party about the difficulty of sorting out relevant voice from the tangle of voices. Others experienced it as well, people who presumably had normal hearing (or, since not young, not yet aware of hearing loss!). Everyone experienced this difficulty. It made me wonder if we have lost some capacity to sort out one voice out of many over the pandemic, the way we lose some of that before hearing correction. Almost none of our brains, in greater isolation, have had much practice with this unless we are working in a public facing job every day.
I have 3 programs. The above describes my normal program. I also have a music program, which is great for music. The third program, which my Audi calls something like “voice in noise” moved forward from the OPN2. It never was helpful before, and it is not helpful now. Everything just seems harsher and less clear. In my follow up I think I’ll see if my Audi can axe this program and instead give me a tweaked version of my normal program for that situation, which is extremely rare for me. I haven’t been indoors in a restaurant. Who knows — maybe I’ll do that someday.
Overall these are a big step up from the OPN2, but in a sort of subtle way.
I guess one way I’d describe it is if unaided hearing loss is riding a standard one speed heavy bike up a steep hill, these are like having an amazingly well engineered e-bike that can sense your pedal pressure and you feel like you are just riding up the hill. But it’s not like getting a motorcycle instead of the bike. I think some of the reviews that are saying “Not such a big jump from my old aids” are looking for a motorcycle but not necessarily appreciating how well the bicycle is working. (Maybe you need to try a good e-bike to get my analogy. I have a decent e-bike, but it is not nearly as “natural” as my hearing aids are — for my actual e-bike to be the bike in this analogy, I need a few generations into the future of work on e-bike tech.)
I also am having periods in groups of people with no hearing aids. I’m doing a rowing program, in crew boats on a river with coaching. These boats are tippy, and I don’t want to dunk my hearing aids. It’s a struggle to hear my fellow rowers, the cox, and the coach. I’m going to try AirPods Pro down there. Those arrive today. We’ll see if they help in that situation.
I have had my More1 aids now for just over a month, either they are learning and getting more tuned into my environments or my brain is becoming accustomed to all of the higher quality sounds. I feel more and more each day like I have normal hearing. At least for me my default program is about all I need. I am using the TV Adapter less. I do find the tinnitus program useful while I am reading in very quiet environments. The t-coils do help with the home phone. The connect clip is important for my laptop and iPad. I prevent issues by not connecting my aids to my iPad directly.
I agree that the default VAC+ program seems able to handle most anything I throw at it, @cvkemp.
But it’s been so long since I’ve had “normal hearing”, I forget what it was like. Closest assertion that I can make is that “Feels as though I can function normally, again.”
Perhaps that’s what you meant …
To be honest what is normal hearing? I believe it is what an individual believes it is.
I am at the point that normal hearing to me, is putting my aids on or if you wish in and forgetting about them most if not all day. That is me more days than I have to make adjustments. I was at the VA for a check up and didn’t need to adjust the volume even with everyone wearing mask.
Yeah … that’s what I meant by “I can function normally.” I honestly forget what my “normal hearing” used to be like.
[I try to avoid using the words : "I can hear normally " under any circumstances because so many first-time wearers expect it, and are sadly disappointed. As I know you know: it’s not like wearing glasses!]
I am this way I can live without the app but I can’t live without my hearing aids. And my More1 aids are so good that I can live without the connect clip and TV adapter.
Wow I am impressed I can hear my wife’s Samsung Galaxy Note 20 without streaming the call
I am noticing something interesting, I have been streaming a lot lately, audiobooks, if I stream directly to my hearing aids my battery life of my hearing aids is worse than if I am using my connect clip at being connected to the iPad. I know that the hearing aids uses different protocols when connecting to the connect clip than it uses when connected to the iPhone directly. But I wouldn’t have believed that it made that much of a difference.
But if I am streaming from the TV Adapter the battery usage is about the same as from the iPhone.
Has anyone else noticed this.
I think Oticon licensed and deployed the CEVA RivieraWaves BT LE technology between its TV Adapter and the HAs, and between the ConnectClip to the HAs. Between the iOS and the HAs, the proprietary Apple MFI BT LE is used.
I would think, too, that the difference between the Apple MFI BT LE and the CEVA RivieraWaves BT LE would be about the same. I’m not sure why the ConnectClip to HAs would be more efficient than the TV Adapter to HAs if they both use the RivieraWaves BT LE to interface with the HAs.
I don’t really understand it either just my observation over this past week. With the virus running rampant here in the state my wife and I are staying close to home and at home as much as possible. I prefer a good book over the TV when ever possible.
@cvkemp: Chuck, do you change the volume settings on your aids with the ON app when streaming from the iPhone, or do you change volume on the phone?
I change the iPad or iPhone volume. I normally mute my hearing aids microphones too.
How much of a difference are we talking about? Have you quantified it?
Over the same amount of time about 10% difference in battery usage. I am talking about my normal 14 hour days. And 4 hours of streaming, audiobooks, I have not been streaming music, I have had a number of books have been waiting to finish. I use the Kindle app, and get my books from the Amazon Unlimited selection.
Do you have to increase the volume of your audiobooks as compared to the volume setting you use when watching TV?
