Has anyone with severe hearing loss transitioned from NAL NL-2 or Adaptive Phonak Digital to DSL v5.0a?
This past August, I suffered further loss of hearing in my left ear (Audiogram updated). The right ear is the same.
Television audio sounds a bit clearer, plus I detect some sounds I wasn’t hearing previously. Notably the roar of a Corvette exhaust while watching Wheeler Dealers.
Just wondering about anyone else’s experience. I am trying to maximize my Lumity 90s, I’ve been told by a top Chicago Hospital Otolaryngology dept that the next step is C.I. which I am opposed to having done.

I am also interested, as I have CI on the other side. I wonder which fitting formula would be more appropriate if the CI may give me a louder sound during the rehabilitation process.
Just reading the book about REM. If you don’t have dead regions at high frequencies, you can benefit from their greater gain in DSL 5.0. You can go even further by trying DSL 5.0 Pediatric.
The NAL-NL2 approach somewhat assumes that normalizing high-frequency loudness isn’t beneficial because of often dead regions (roughly speaking) that could lead to perceive a distortion or deterioration of speech understanding.
Yeah, I’ve shifted over to DSL from NAL2. I worked with my audiologist for quite a long time, starting with an REM fitting to NAL2. After a while I noticed the curve was approaching that of DSL and decided to try it myself. I’ve been using the first fit DSL on my Lumities for several months and not had to tweak them any further.
The problem is that I’m now at the very limit of what the aids can do in higher frequencies, and am frequently experiencing feedback because my moulds aren’t tight enough for the amplification (now experimenting with frequency shifting).
Try a new, tighter (and perhaps smaller diameter) earmold. Maybe a silicone one? Deep placement is also crucial, too, and provides additional gain because of decreasing ear canal volume (roughly +6dB after halving the volume).
Yeah, tightening up that mould is always going to be the first thing to do and the best option if it works. Sadly there’s not much we can do there anymore, in terms of depth and tight fitting

So you have already deep placed custom earmolds. What about venting?
