Does anyone know if the AirPod pro 2 settings (based on the IOS hearing test) are stored in the AirPods or just on the iPhone/ or iPad?
EDIT: my reason for asking was wanting to listen to music on non-IOS devices and still get the same sound from the Airpods. Now I know the latest settings will always be stored in the Airpod pro 2s and work the same no matter which device you connect them to. Nothing could make me happier!
Big thanks to @OcramSagev, @biggar & @coastal_california
I don’t know. However, my guess is that the Audiogram is stored in the Apple Health app, meaning that it is likely encrypted and available from iCloud on both the iPhone and iPad. The AirPods Pro2 firmware is updated via internet wirelessly somehow.
Thanks for asking - I hope someone knows and will respond!
Best, Bob.
You are correct, the audiogram/hearing data is stored in the Health App and it is available in any of your devices that has the Apple health app
According to the Apple Doc (Use the Hearing Aid feature on your AirPods Pro 2), “Hearing Aid settings are stored on your AirPods, so if your paired device is not nearby, Hearing Aid will keep working using the most recent settings.”
Of course , you don’t need your phone to use the AirPods hearing aid feature. I thought the question was about where was the data stored so that you could look at it
Technically ( and I can say this as an engineer) programming a device to act a certain way does not mean you are storing the data in that device, you just programmed it to act in a certain way .
Thanks @biggar.
Trying to make my post short and concise, I probably tried too hard.
My reason for asking was - will they sound the same on a non-Apple bluetooth streaming device?
Very happy to read your answer!
It looks like you just posted while I was typing this but I will post my answer anyway in case it helps others.
I wasn’t sure why you are asking but if you switch between different hearing test / audiograms stored in Apple Health on your phone the Airpod Pro 2’s switch instantaneously to the new audiogram. My guess is the phone sends the different profile to Airpod Pro 2’s which then use it.
My Eargo 7’s are very different . The different hearing tests / audiograms are in the Eargo App but switching the audiogram means reprogramming the Eargo 7’s which takes 5 - 10 minutes.
The Airpod Pro 2’s will keep the hearing test /audiogram you last told it to use but if you want to update the hearing test / audiogram you update it from your phone.
Yes any streaming device (or the real world in transparancy mode) will use the hearing test results you last told the Airpod Pro 2’s to use
I was writing my answer but @coastal_california was faster than me. I agree with his answer. I love how the music sounds with my AirPods! You do have to enable this feature, I can’t remember if it is enabled automatically.
