That actually looks like a reasonably standard otosclerosis loss to me. Do you have surgical options?
If your marvels are still functioning, the clinician can save and transfer that programming to the new heading aids and then verify the Marvel output and match the Lumities to that. Given the nearly identical fit in the ear, they could just be matched in test box.
Thanks, Iāll check out REM. Question: you say the KS10s (Paradise version) had a similar problem? Were you able to resolve it and make those work, or anything else you learned about setting up the new ones from working with your audiologist or from anecdotes here that I might bring up with mine?
Thanks Neville, much appreciated. Yes, someone has mentioned that to me and Iām in the process of getting it escalated through the NHS but Iām not holding my breath.
I have been seen by an apparently well known ENT a few times and he hasnāt diagnosed anything like that so far which confuses me as both you and another audiologist immediately suggested otosclerosis.
My 80 year old mother has a very similar profile loss to me which she has only just ādiscoveredā so I think the chances are quite high for a genetic background to my loss.
Having said that, I used to be a diving instructor, I grew up with a Walkman on full volume and I used to go clubbing until my ears were numb in the 90s, so take your pick!
No - I didnāt say that - sorry for confusion - they sounded a notch above is what I meant!
I also had Phonak Marvel aids and mid-level technology at best. I still have those same Audeo Marvel and they need replacing. I keep hearing about PARADISE, LUMITY, etc. but I havenāt figured it out. Wasnāt it the Paradise that was just released this past summer or was it just a new level of PARADISE.
I HAVE TO DECIDE QUICKLY the direction I should go as to Paradise or another recommendation specifically for Resound Enzo Q 988 which Iām now thinking may not be best. Deadline end of January so Iāve got to get back to it.
I struggle to hear on the phone so Iām stuck with texting, email, etc. when a discussion would be quicker but right now not an option.
Paradise was the old model. It was replaced by the new Lumity hearing aids this summer. You can still buy Paradise.

How do you feel about disposable vs. rechargeable batteries? Lumity is recharge only. You can get paradise in disposable.

Thanks, As luck would have it RECHARGEABLE is my preference. Every so often you get a break (sort of).
I wonder if the UK is a little bit more hesitant to jump into surgery than we are over here. Maybe the gap just isnāt big enough that they think thereās a chance of a significant enough improvement. But. . . I donāt know, Iāve seen some good outcomes. Probably depends on your surgeon. My very favourite ENT moved over to the UK, but I believe heās at Cambridge.
But you mention having difficult ear canals and having to move down to an M receiver. Even if your ears arenāt ammenable to stapedectomy, that left ear might take well to a BAHA.
Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Bluetooth with hands free talking was a game-changer for me. I have worn both the Phonak Paradise and Lumity models and the Lumity is noticeably superior to the Paradise, especially with regard to speech understanding, which means less listening fatigue. The Lumity is probably the best HA Iāve ever worn, so my recommendation is to skip āParadiseā and run straight to Lumity! Good luck!
Thanks. Iām glad theyāve made progress.
Did you have the same audiologist for your Paradise and Lumity hearing aids?
luminity can be to have a sharpened speech, because it is an upgraded Paradise after all. But it should also be taken into account if you wear a hearing aid for 2 or more years, that most often the hearing aid needs to be adjusted again because our hearing can change over time. So it is necessary to do it again in-situ or put a new audiogram.
If the question is directed to me, yes, I have had the same audiologist for both. I see her at least every 6 months, more frequently if Iām having issues, buying new aids or accessories, etc. She is excellent. Interestingly her mother has a hearing loss, which impacted her career choice.
OK, Iām curious! Here is a link of all the Phonak Lumity Life features, but I donāt see āRestaurantā on it. I ask, cuz it seems it would be redundant with āSpeech in Loud Noiseā which I have on my Life aids. Was that a custom program you had set up?
Just like you, I wore Phonak Marvel battery-operated aids for 3 years and traded up to the Lumity Life aids for their stated speech clarity improvements and their being āwaterproofā. I agree that these aids are not perfect in the noisy restaurant environment. I do find them noticeably better than my Marvel aids for speech clarity in quieter settings or even situations were a person may have his or her back turned to me or is wearing a face mask.
These aids are not much more waterproof than any other out there except that the BTE unit is hermetically sealed. So yācanāt go jumping in a pool with them on, as water will get in through the speakers in your ear.
All that aside, I also notice that while my aids are set up with āSpeech in Loud Noiseā, āMusicā and āAcoustic Phoneā, I donāt have to manually change programs UNLESS I want to hear really rich, vibrant music with all its dynamic range (Music program) or need to use a phone I canāt stream on (Acoustic Phone). Both of those features/programs are FABULOUS.
Mine (p90) came with three programs that I think are available by default, although I think your HCP can decide not to send those programs. āRestaurantā, āMusicā, and āTVā.

@auntpie, I asked because one of the great unknowns when buying hearing aids is does the 2nd audiologist have the same skill as the first?
Your comment means so much more to me because you were happy with the first audiologist and stayed with them for the second purchase.
Thank you!
Appreciate your insight here! I have some issues with the rechargeable Lumity Life aids, but you nailed it: noticeably SUPERIOR speech understanding and therefore fewer communication issues as well as the āfatigueā factor you mention.
In my dreams these Lumity Life aids would be BATTERY powered, but they are part of the growing trend away from disposable batteries. Even so, if one has backup aids that are rechargeable (as I do now) itās going to be extra work to maintain that set as opposed to my Marvel aids, which sit in a drawer with NO batteries in them doing fine till the day I need to wear them.
This is a point that Phonak should understand about its customer base instead of taking a āGREENā tack with the rechargeables and beating their chest about NO MORE disposable battery models going forward. I think thatās a mistake and a missed sales opportunity.
Have you ever tried the Audeo Paradise or only the Marvel and the Lumity. Maybe you said but I didnāt catch it?
Because my choice right now in the Phonak line is the Paradise or Lumity. If so your opinion about the Lumity isnāt based in any way about the Paradise 90?
I think I need to take a break Iāve been online most of the day so maybe coming back with a fresh outlook will give me a clearer vision of which way to go.
If money were no object Iād do the Lumity but since cost is a big factor and my finances are limited I should try the Paradise which actually I had a loan of Paradise 90 but came down with Covid and felt horrible so Iām not sure having tried them before gives me proper perspective
