As a part of my original purchase I received the TV-Play after the firmware update enabled it on Widex Moments. I actually didn’t think I would use but I really like it. I have a 2017 LG TV and a Yamaha AV receiver with two stereo speakers, no surround sound. So when I first setup the TV-Play I connected with optical cable to the TV and had an echo. I thought it was Bluetooth latency and disconnected it. A few days later I listen close to the speaker and found, realized and forgot about the fact that receivers have a sound delay which is automatically synced with the TV over HDMI so I connected the streamer to the AV receiver and no echo. Also while the streamer was connected to the TV through optical I had to change Apple TV audio to Dolby 5.1. The receiver doesn’t have optical out so I connected the streamer to analog outs for zone 2 which is line out lever. I set the tv-play volume pretty low, just enough to enhance and hear voices for better speech understanding and mostly listen to the speakers.
So this is why I was curious how others are connecting their streamers and what trouble they had connecting them. Either not having outputs on the receiver or soundbar that don’t have optical out.
I thought a product like this
“J-Tech Digital 4K60Hz HDMI 2.0 Audio Extractor HDMI-ARC Converter SPDIF + 3.5MM Output 18Gbps, HDCP 2.2, Compatible with Dolby_Digital/DTS CEC HDR10 [JTD18G-H5CH2]”
or
" 4K Audio Extractor HDMI by OREI, UltraHD 4K @ 60Hz 18G HDMI 2.0 Audio Converter SPDIF + 3.5mm Output HDCP 2.2 - Dolby Digital/DTS Passthrough CEC, HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10 Support (HDA-912)"
which might be helpful but haven’t tried it. I might buy one just to check it out and also see if optical will sound better than analog which I’m guessing it will.
