I am looking for an app for transcription. I searched the forum with no luck. Those items mentioned are older and am hoping there are newer apps around. Here’s the deal. I have several meetings a month for which I would like to be able to use my phone to capture the meeting and automatically save a transcription. I am willing to pay for an app, but things like Dragon are out of my price range at six and seven and eight hundred dollars. I need to be able to save several transcripts a week that can be up to two hours each. I have been scouring the 'net but can’t come up with much. Many are limited to 30 minutes, or only 3 a month. I’m hoping someone has had experience in this area and can share their findings. Thanks so much!
Have you tried NALscribe?
Google’s Live Transcribe is fantastic if you have an Android phone. It is free, fast, highly accurate and saves transcripts for 3 days so you can copy them into a doc. Some people buy a $300 Android just for this app and if the phone has 6GB RAM you can download the vocabulary and don’t need a wifi connection. There are others out there like Innocaption, Ava and Nagish, not sure about transcripts.
Samsung’s recorder app has an AI summary feature. However, it requires at least an S23 or higher model, which has an NPU processor to achieve full capability:
I don’t know does newest Samsung A56 has effective NPU for AI calculation, but I think it should.
Thank you, Danka. I have not tried NALscribe but it looks interesting. I will check it out.
Thank you, Sufhl. I have tried Google’s Live Transcribe and it makes way too many errors. I have 256Gb. I’m looking for meeting support. I use Live Captions currently for the phone calls. It’s adequate, but I am going to move to Innocaptions because I can save my calls. You cannot do that with Live Captions except to take a screen shot.
Thank you Bimodal_user. I will look into this. I have an S24 Ultra so I’m good there. I need to be able to easily save what is being transcribed from my meetings. Their Live Captions leave a lot to be desired because of the errors. I just saw it is only available on Pixel which I do not have.
Unfortunately, when I checked into NALScribe, it is only for Apple products. I am Android, but it looks really great! Thank you.
I would check out Otter.ai. I first started using it 3 years ago since I have an Iphone and Google Transcribe was not available to me. It is now available for both Apple and Android, has several differnet price plans, and I have used it for both in person meetings and to capture conversations in Teams meetings. It’s nice to be able to capture the transcript and review with your notes later.
If you’re getting lots of inaccuracy it is likely due to noise distance or reverb.
That excellent! Check AI settings in Setting section of Android.
What version Android is needed, I just happen to have an old android that works perfectly!
To use Google Live Transcribe, you need an Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later. While it works on most Android devices, the best experience is typically found on newer Pixel devices. For offline functionality, you may need a device with at least 6GB of RAM, which is not the memory we commonly refer to with phones.
Be aware that Apple.store has an inferior “Live Transcribe” app that is not Google’s app and not as good.
Here is a link that might include helpful apps: 10 Best Apps for People with Hearing Loss: Top Picks. I like AVA, but to get the most accurate version you have to subscribe.
Thank you, LawyerFL! I don’t mind paying, but doesn’t AVA expect all meeting participants to pay for the app as well? I volunteer with HOAs and seniors who wouldn’t do this. Perhaps I misunderstood their usage of the app. AVA looks wonderful tho.
Interesting that it’s inferior on Apple. Thx.

A free app that works well for a group like that is Microsoft Translatter. It is free, easy to use, and works on all devices. If a member isn’t fluent in English, it also translates to most other languages. It was developed originally for translation, but if set for English to English, you now have an excellent speech to text app. It was demonstrated at an HLAA National Convention a while back.
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
