Their Lumitys don’t have UP CROS. They’re only available in Super Power Rechargeable CROS (which is not powerful enough for my loss). The Infinios are only available in RIC (not BTE) and don’t have BTE UP + CROS. That means the only recent Phonak hearing aids in the UP form factor are the BTE Phonak Naida Paradise UP aids.
Why is Phonak discontinuing the ONLY Naida BTE UP + CROS model they have??? Usually, you would think it’s because a new Naida BTE UP + CROS model is coming but there doesn’t seem to be anything coming down the pipe. And the next models of aids announcements are not due until August.
The profound hearing losses are reportedly very small part of the market (approximately 5%? Someone correct me if I am wrong).
Last guidelines recommend cochlear implantation in the poorer ear, which is different point of view than, let’s say, 15 years ago. So the market for CROS could be even smaller due to CIs.
Maybe I’m being too honest, it’s not my intention to offend, but I’m saying what is the best option according to the latest research.
I am not doing CI. My hearing is too good in my aidable ear at 75% WR to qualify for it. Also, I have not had good experiences with surgeries.
Also my audiologist doesn’t recommend it because the poorer ear would interfere with the quality of hearing I do have in my better ear. My poorer ear has been profoundly deaf (more than 110 dB) for over 40 years since 1983. I am 45 now.
I’m broke and without a job and thus insurance until I get some sort of miracle and get a job in this market.
I have 100% WRS. Even patients with normal hearing in their better ear are also eligible for a CI in their poorer ear.
Guidelines have changed significantly over the last 15 years. I was denied surgery in 2011, and then qualified by the same doctor 1.5 years later with the same hearing.
EDIT: (Clicked accidentally “send” too early)
Your audiologist has obsolete information. Yes, there is much work to get binaural cooperation (I speak for myself), but it is worth the effort.
I recommend reviewing the Facebook group CI Single Sided or Unilateral Deafness:
I’m sorry about that. I didn’t know about that just showing solution with potentially the best outcomes.
Allright, nothing with force. I am just make sure to provide the most recent knowledge, which is necessary, regarding that your audiologist out-of-date information. But sometimes, if we want to significantly improve the quality of our lives, it is worth taking the risk of the unknown. We can be pleasantly surprised.
Most people who procrastinate on getting the CI due to fear regret not deciding sooner.
Regarding CROS, there is AMA meeting topic, you can ask about it:
I don’t have much knowledge about it, but maybe AmpCROS with HA on the poorer ear with Naida Lumity UP 675 on the better ear?
That is not compatible with CROS. Only PR Rechargeables (which are not powerful enough for my loss) are compatible with CROS. Not UP. Which is my annoyance.
