Signia fitting program

yes i know that i see it in the program when i got to the data section.
i went and lowered the ucl and the pinch went away some but not completely and i had to raise the BT settings alot so i could hear the phone games. that is the only thing i have that uses the BT at this time and if i like it i may get a tv streamer.

but the pinch is almost gone and the tv in the kitchen next to me has the volume down from 18 now it is 15 and i can hear it well. that was in my last setting that i removed.

and so i will leave this for now to get accustomed to the new settings and next week the audi will see what i did. and if i have an issue she may tweak them just a bit. i will take a photo of my settings to compare the settings if she does a tweak on them at that time. it is easier for me to see the photo than to ge back anf forth in the program. this program is slow compared to phonak’s program on my pc anyway

thanks

Well if your Audi has agreed to work with your DIY in-situ settings, then that’s good.

Usually they will just trash your DIY settings, and revert back the last copy in the Audi’s database.

Oh, UCL is not usually used to fine tune the settings. It’s just an upper limit.

When you say “pinch” do you mean feedback/squeal? There are tools to deal with feedback. Here’s a video about fine tuning;

no pinch is the only way i can describe the hurt i get. it really does not hurt in like stubbing your toe but it is enough make you turn your head away from that side so i use pinch to make that shorter. if there is a better term let me know i will use it.

i moved the ucl for my right ear a bit lower and that helped but i still get it just a bit so i still have a bit of tweaking. but it is not what i’m calling pinching my ear that bad so in a day or 2 i will go back and do a small tweak. i want to give my brain time with these settings. thanks.

If it’s feedback, then call it feedback. Here’s a link → Feedback Video.

pvc i do not believe it is feedback, i have had feedback before. but i will not rule out anything. but 2 audis say it is not feedback. they do not whistle or squeal, the aids just start out loud and buzzes or clicks and turns off, i think they reach the high db limit and turn down. when i’m in the booth i even get that clicking or buzzes. my ears will not process the high dg in the 3-4-6k ranges anymore.

so the program starts the recover/compression at the right line around .8k and the left around 5k and then i start moving the left line lower.

and the funny thing is every time i do a first fitting that compression changes ths time it is weird it started at left line at 2k and right line at 3k

this is what i put into the audio gram and in situation test i nmay also have to adjust the left ear settings but for now they are not a bother top line is the audiogram center is the in situation bottom is the ucl … for the right ear i moved the ucl from 95 db to 90 db

this is the sound recover/compression for that audiogram-insinuation i did 3-14-23

Things change because you are bypassing the basics. You should learn how to use your database.

Which database client session contains your original Audi settings. It should be session #1 but I believe you skipped the step of saving your original Audi settings. Oh well, we are past that mistake. Next time you have your original Audi settings you need to save them!

The term is in-situ, not in-situation. Which database client session contains your in-situ measurements so that you can easily restore back to your basic in-situ measurements without your latest experimental changes.

I have never heard of fine tuning by adjusting UCL?? Is this a corvairbob invention?

Frequency lowering (I believe Sound Recover is a Phonak name) is a whole topic all by itself.

You’ve answered your own question.

You lower the UCL which will make the issue worse.

Lowered UCL will lower the MPO which makes everything buzz as you’ve compressing everything into a small amount.

i started a new client so i could go into the audiogram and start a fresh one the old one was to full and i did not want to mess with the audi’s audiogram so i started a new one, that way hers is there just in case. i need some guidance i have one to look at i did the same thing with the phonak program and it worked out good when i had to make a setting if i messed up i had the original one to fall back on.

i did not do a fine tune using the ucl i readjusted that because when i did the ucl the first time it was in the shaded area. and when i have any setting in that area i get buzzes and clicks in the aids

@corvairbob

Most people don’t do UCL.

It isn’t important thing to do.

Why do you have to go back to audiologist to get original settings if you have it?

You’ve confusing yourself and doing too much.

you do not understand because you got into this conversation way to late
i have an appointment for the fitting under insurance for the free hearing aids.

i told the audi that i do my own but i had to go to her to get the hearing aids, the insurance will not send them to me. so she got them for me and i went for the initial fitting and then for one update. then i finally got the noah link programmer, and in the meantime i had another appointment setup, she wants to see what i did and make any adjustments if needed at that time. that is why i’m going back, plus it is covered under my insurance so i might as well take advantage of that.

now your up to date.
i programmed them and then because she is a first tiem dr. for me some here told me she will not like me doing this myself. so i put her program back in. and deleted all my data so i would not confuse her with all my adjustments. then she emailed me and said to refit them and to use a new fitting so she can look at my fitting and then see how i changed it form her fitting. because she will not all my changes and only the last one. if that makes sense to you

i go back because she is helping to make sure what i do is good and also if i have any questions she can help me do a tweak and it is covered under insurance so i might a swell take advantage of free advice.

What @Zebras is saying that entering the UCL is one of the problems, another is using the frequency compression, as it can introduce audible artifacts to the processed sound and degradation of speech intelligibility for some people, especially when set to strong.

So as a experiment set up a new fitting, but no UCL, do in-situ (or just your audiogram if you want) and don’t click on frequency compression, AXfit offers more compression (intelligent compressor) then NAL anyway, so you could try between the two, there’s a drop down menu between linear and “more compressive” there’s also a DSP slider, set it to say more to awareness (I don’t know if your brand offers this in Connexx)
Now we haven’t talked about acoustics, so make sure that’s exactly as it should be (domes or molds, vent size etc) don’t go through the OVP just yet, as it changes the gains, so what we have now is a stripped down fitting from the one you have now, do you still have the issues you’ve been trying to describe?

Has he got closed domes? Can’t figure it out? Maybe he does have the right domes or ear moulds?

In-situ with open domes makes low frequencies a lot worse which is shown in previous screenshots. He’s also complaining of things being too loud, maybe because he’s got too much lows?

My Step Mum did In-situ with open domes and it made her lows 40 dB worse.

Yeah I don’t know what he’s using, but as you say open is not going to work, at best custom molds with a say 1.2-1.6mm vent size, as at 1500Hz onwards for @corvairbob an open dome would very problematic.

thanks i do have open domes on them now, so i will try tomorrow with closed domes and use what the fitting program puts in for starters and see if it is any different. i will start a new fitting so if it fails i have one to go back to.

one reason i use the compression is i can’t hear the wife when she talks so when i had the phonak aids on and the online hearing tracker audi i talked to told me to use compression and to move it down to low end around 2k and high end at 8k so that is what i did with those aids. using the same process is what i have been doing for the new ones. but only using the ax fit formula instead of the nal-nl2 formula.

anyway tomorrow i will start a nee client and enter the audiogram only and use no compression and install the closed domes and see what happens. thanks for the help

Ok so now we can see what’s going on, but closed won’t be the best fit because of you low frequencies, you want vented or tulip domes, another good thing about the earwear 3.0 receivers is you can fit the click sleeves (vented as well)
Another thing to look into for you first fit is the experience level, make sure you have that set to experienced.

Also what receivers are you using, as in power level?
S,M, or P

All these things are important, so you need to make sure there set up as best you can, lucky for you you’ll have your audiologist to fall back on if needed.

i use experienced user i have 2p receivers so power for receivers. the audi first put on then closed domes but my own voice was terrible so she put on the open domes and the sound did get way better. i put in all those parameters in the first fit, so i could try removing the compression and see it the sound is a bit better? and remove the ucl settings also and when i did the in-situ i got way better results. my audiogram has just the audio gram and the ucl on it. should i remove the ucl and just go with the audiogram? or might the in-situ be a better approach? thanks

You could try in-situ first, and yes remove the UCL level for now.

I wonder if medium receivers would suit better, these would give a totally different fit, it would of been a bit of a toss up for your audiologist! But completely closed domes won’t be nice, the click sleeves vented or custom made molds with a decent size vent would be the way to go, I can see why your trying frequency compression, but it’s quite possible to get good results without using it.

the first audi i went to this year for the signia ax hearing aids gave me tulips and he also gave me the power receivers. the second audi gave me the same hearing aids because these are the hearing aids my insurance covers. she started with the closed domes that are shown in the fitting program under the pure ax hearing aids. but the next visit she gave me the open domes because i took the closed domes off as they had a real bad echo in my ears.
