I was not sure if it had a purpose, but glad I have connected it in all that I have replaced
I actually thought it was to regulate when to stop charging, so as in not to overcharge, but I guess your saying the same thing.
If you guys remember, I started this discussion over battery issues. A few days ago I tried with another charger, and they work. Other cables and chargers that I tried work and are not faulty, but Selects couldn’t charge with them. Any idea?
Look at the output written on the charger/wall wart … the one that works is probably more output than the one that do not work.
They make USB diagnostic cables that go in between charger and client. Probably more money than you’d want to pay, but I find it convenient to see what is going on. Voltage, current, total power since reset, etc. I have one for usb-a and one for usb-c (which also does pd).

The USB-A device I bought in 2018 and the device has gone out of catalog. There are similar devices available though. Mine is branded Takelife, but this device looks identical. Even this one is not currently available, but you can read the description.
10 memories. I can see the decline of batteries by using the same memory location for a device. This would work for most HA charging kits.

I am not actually sure of the purpose of the yellow wire, on the 3 pin plug, it can’t be a data wire, as the firmware updates, it’s not for overcharging or overheating, the tiny pcb on the battery does that, perhaps it’s a ruse, to throw us DIY’ers off the scent, along with the odd shaped plug… I have been running the new battery on the Select iN through its paces, transferring licences back and forth, charging it up fully, running it down slightly, charging up again, it appears to be functioning perfectly well, without the yellow wire, it’s not overheating, I have a “Topdon” thermal imaging camera… So, I have no actual idea of the functionality of the yellow wire, and your guess is as good as mines… For those whom might be interested, The Roger Select iN, holds 5 sets of licences, or 10 licences to be exact, when new! I was so impressed, I decided to buy a spare Select iN, it was almost new, according to the box, manufactured last year, so it should not need a new battery anytime soon, £263, from eBay including next day postage… Cheers Kev
HI Kevels55,
What is your take on the difference between Roger ON iN and Select iN? I have both and the Select is great at a table but looks like if you could have just one, it would be ON. I have both licensed, but can only use one at a time with the hearing aids. I realize I can pair them with each other, but cannot imagine a circustance where I would use both at the same time
Just called an audiologist who told me that X receivers are obsolete technology??? Seriously? Or they simply want people to buy new aids at $100000 every year?
Hi @pclewis, I have 3 Select’s, 2 iN’s & 1 standard Select On (for want of a better name) I am going to give one of the Select’s to my 10 year old grandson, whom has no hearing whatsoever on the right since birth (CMV) and a moderate (aided) loss on the left… I do also have the Roger On standard version… One thing I didn’t envisage was, (I have a vague recollection of @Zebras mentioning this in the past?) the Select’s do not link with each other, which is a bit of bummer, you cannot link one Select to another, and run them simultaneously, if you try, and I did just that, one switches off, the other stays on, touching the other Select switches it on, but automatically switches the other one off… It says in the Phonak blurb, you can link these Select’s to other ALD’s, like the Roger Table Mic 2, but it neglects to say, you cannot link the actual Select with another Select! I was going to use all 3 Select’s at Christmas Dinner with around 10 of my family members at the table, we play a lot of games (like Trivial Pursuit) and for my sins, I am fiercely competitive So that idea has been kicked into touch… Cheers Kev
They do but not for table mode, only lanyard mode.
It’s so you have to buy the expensive Table Mics.
I haven’t tried but 1 x Select might work on table if other in lanyard mode?
Thank you Ruth for that information, I will experiment at some point Cheers Kev
I could forsee lots of feedback issues linking devices at a table. I suppose the design and software of the table mics solves that but they only have the single purpose of a table mic.
I can’t see a need for having the Select and ON work together, so they don’t.
Are you sure that Select In can hold 10 licences? How about Roger On IN? Can I then transfer licences from the aids back to the Select IN, rather than going to audi or purchasing Phonak installer? Can these licences be a mix of 02s and 03s? If it’s possible how will I be able to choose between 02 and 03 when/if I want to transfer licences to the aids?
Furthermore, can I use Phonak upgrader software as a temporary storage for licences when transferring ? Obviously, when doing transfers, I would need at least one of the devices without licences. Hope you understand my question.
I have no idea @MilosDj, you would have to find that out for yourself, I don’t own a Roger On iN, I have 2 Select iN’s though, I transferred 5 sets of licenses, from 1 Select iN, so I assume the Roger Select iN holds 10 licenses, before it runs dry… Whether the Select iN, can hold different licenses (like 02) I have no idea (I would assume not?) you would have to experiment for yourself… To be very honest, I have no need to experiment with (Type 02) Licenses, I have the Roger installer, should I need a (Type 02) as you are no doubt aware, a Roger X (02) receivers, is an expensive piece of kit, and I for one don’t want to lose them, with experimental investigations that are of little or no use to me… Sorry @MilosDj that’s the way it is… Cheers Kev
Is that with help from the software or did it come with that many licenses?
With the help of the Roger updater, via your kind advice it had 2 licenses to start with, and then produced another 8, so 10 in total… BTW, that Roger updater is integrated into Target software… There is another feature that updates the firmware in Noahlink Wireless, just in case you haven’t noticed it
Cheers Kev
Have you click on the Phonak Roger Upgrader button within Target?
I found it didn’t load when I hadn’t downloaded the Roger Upgrader Software before hand.
Thank you for that information Ruth I am slightly hungover today, so any sense from my reply might be nonexistent
I don’t normally drink when playing pool, last night was the exception
Yeah, the Upgrader was pre-installed, so that’s probably why it loaded in Target… Cheers Kev
If it helps Amazon ES sells the 503030 battery it is the two wire version no idea if the plug is the same but I guess not as original looks from my in case photo as a black 3 cable one. There is a yellow wire will probe it when I install the battery to see if its function can be ascertained. Not found it yet but somewhere there will be a circuit diagram for this device and that may show some light on cables.
