Rexton Trax 42 repair

I have Rexton Trax 42 aids that need repair. I got them from Costco a little over 5 years ago. A Costco HA fitter told me that even though they are over 5 years old, they could be sent to Rexton for repair for $135 each. When I went to follow-up on that, though, a different fitter was on duty and said that they wouldn’t repair them if more than 5 years old. Before I start wasting time trying to further pursue this, does anyone know for sure which is correct.

@MTSAILOR: It might be quicker for you to just call or email Rexton yourself. (Granted, a Registered Provider like @Um_bongo or @Neville might have the information you’re looking for, but how long will it take for your post to be noticed?)

But if you can’t find a Costco hearing aid center willing to send them back to Rexton for repair does it really matter what Rexton says directly?

You might also consider Lloyd’s Hearing Aids for the repair. I’ve heard only positive about them.

@jay_man2: Sorry, Jay, that never occurred to me. I added my suggestion because I though it better than suggesting a change in the topic title to draw the attention of knowledgeable members.

But - you’re correct, I suppose, unless Rexton has some way of “greasing the skids” with Costco, assuming they can be returned for repair.

At the very least, calling Rexton would resolve the questions raised by the contradictory information that Costso HCPs have given the OP.

This doesn’t answer your question, but I’ll tell my tale. I got Rexton 42s ($2600) at Costco for my first aids. Trialing them and KS6s in the store, I thought they were worth the extra cost.

Three weeks later, improved 42s became the KS7s. I returned the 42s, ordered KS7s ($1700), and pocketed $900. I recently upgraded to the KS10s.

Unless the cost is prohibitive, take a look at the KS10s ($1400). They are very good, for me, at least.

Not my area really as we don’t deal with Costco product here.

@Um_bongo: Sorry, Stephen. I tagged you only because I thought you might be conversant with Rexton’s general policy. I realize now that was dumb thinking … my apologies, once more.

My experience with Rexton and Phonak has been that they do not repair. Whenever sent in for repair they replace it with new ones. Phonak replaces the entire aid, Rexton replaces the works but keep the case. So, if the Trax 42 work well for you, they didn’t for me, it might be worth it to send them in. But, DK about the 5 year limit thing. Check with them.
.

I was told with a former Widex product that their limit for significant repairs was seven years. I guess it depends on the manufacturer and the willingness of the middlepeople involved.

My Trax 42s never stopped working, but the t.v. connector or maybe the bluetooth intermediate device got shaky. Mine were out of warranty and I never thought about repairs, just got the KS9s. I appreciated the Trax 42s. They were my first aids, but I LOVE the KS9s. If the cost isn’t a problem, why not do a trial with the KS10s and see if you’d be happier than with repaired Trax.

I just started wearing a pair of KS6 today. They were a relative who never wore them and are my first RIC aids. I am trying them to see if I like the RIC type before buying a new pair. That being said. Are the KS10 a whole lot better? I know the streaming will be nice. Just curious as you’ve had both. Thanks.

I only trialed the KS6s in the store. That said, I thought the KS7s (~Rexton 42s) were better than the KS6s, and now the KS10s are an improvement over the KS7s. All of mine have been RIC, so you may find that a big change.

Turns out I have the KS7.0. Long story short my grandma bought them and never wore them and gave them to me after they sat for a few years. I had a Trax 42 CIC so the technology isn’t new but I do feel much less occlusion with RIC and will probably get the KS10 after the holidays.

Thanks to all who replied. I emailed Rexton a week ago and never heard back, so I called them today. They said that their policy is to repair regardless of age until they run out of parts and that they do still have parts for the Trax 42. So, now since some of you recommended that I try the KS10, I have to decide whether to put money ($270) into my old Trax 42 or apply that to new aids. Does anyone else have experience going directly from Trax 42 (or the Kirkland equivalent, KS 7, I think) to the KS 10? Or should I perhaps post this question as a new thread?

I have experience going from the KS7 to the KS9. KS9 are subtly better as stand alone hearing aids. Using the TV Connect for listening to TV is a big improvement and being able to stream from computers and phone is convenient.

I went from Phonak to Benefon to Trax 42 to Phonak Marvels. I only got the Trax because of the great reviews on this board, but I was never happy with them. The Marvels are, by far, the best aids I have had, next best my original ITE Phonaks. I do like some of the features of the newer Phonak Paradise but my Aud has convinced me that I wouldn’t hear any better so I’m waiting for the next generation aids. The great extras, all the Roger stuff, the TV connect, and the super Bluetooth connectivity made a huge difference in my hearing. YMMV.

I went from KS7s to KS10s, and I’m very pleased. I’ve adjusted to rechargeable batteries, started using streaming, phone calls via the aids, bought the TV streamer, etc. I also bought a Phonak mini charger to use when traveling and to have a spare. I do have to remember to bring a charger when on the road. That’s one down side to rechargeables.

I think this is a largely decision to base on how tight money is. If spending an extra $1100 plus on the KS10 would not be too much of a hardship, you’d definitely get an upgrade and not have to worry about repair expenses (including receivers) for 3 years (or more if you use Costco credit card to purchase) If on the other hand, coming up wtih $270 is a struggle, doing so should get you another year of decent service (possibly more)

I went from the Trax42 to KS9 and since the KS10 was introduced during the tryout period I switched to that. I liked all three, but the KS10 has a few advantages over the previous two.
