Ureout, you have alot of amazing info. I just picked up my ReSound Vivia 5 HA. 1st time for hearings aids. I have been in the wind 2 times and each time sounded like tin foil rattling. Is there a setting to eliminate that or do HAVE to upgrade to the vivia 9?? Any help is greatly appreciated…
It depends how it has been set by the audiologist, but if you look in the app, you should find the setting in Sound Enhancer which is at the bottom of the screen. In the Resound app it’s called Wind noise reduction.
I charged my hearing aids overnight. We try to save energy by not leaving stuff plugged it. So i unplugged my hearig aids from the wall, and my wife could hear a high pitched squeal coming fro. The unplugged charging station. I opened the case slowly and they started to squeal again. Each time was only about a second, not constant. Plugged the charger back into wall and it stopped… I’m lost
When you unplug the charger … that is the same as removing the aids from the charger …THEY TURN ON and in the close confines of the charger feedback takes place.
If you want to unplug the charger, you must remove the aids and turn them off, and then unplug the charger … you may be able to put them back into the charger after they are off … Probably better to put them into the center compartment … if they will fit.
I haven’t posted in a while have been away and still have the demo vivia’s … I actually had my audi order me a set of Vivia’s so I’m just waiting for them to be delivered… the only negative I can say about the vivia’s is that the TV streaming program doesn’t sound as good to me… Resound has come up with a new way to stream TV… used to be you would have a seperate TV streaming program setup with the tone that you like… now what ever program you are using at the time and switch on the streamer you get that programs settings… I have found that before switching on the streamer I change to OD prog. with the noise filter on and that gives me a tone that I prefer… I still sometimes have to alter the treble and middle a little because female voices seem very sharp… well hopefully my new HA’s will be in soon and I will let you know if they work as well as demo’s
Do you have the new Resound TV streamer that uses Bluetooth Low Energy Audio? Resound call it the TV Streamer + and it should sound substantially better than the old TV Streamer 2. It would be well worth giving that a try if you can borrow one. You may find that the software integration works better with that as well.
That has not changed … it is the same on my nexia aids … you can use any program and the sound enhancer with the TV streamer 2 that I have .
David. I did try the new resound + tv streamer and there was no difference between that and my resound tv streamer 2…
GG yes i do no adjustments can be made using the sound enhancer but I prefered the old way that I had on all my previous Resound HA’s and I now have on my Omnia’s … as you know old style had a seperate streaming program that was set up by my Audi the way I like to hear tv shows and now he no longer can make adj because the program no longer exists… with this new way I have to switch from my AA program that is adjusted to have a little more treble when I’m indoors and I have to go to my OD prog. that I have set with a noise filter on at all times this does help cut out some of the sharpness but I keep having to make Adj. every time I go from live sports which always seems ok to streaming a DVR’d tv program that sounds sharp and brittly …
@Ureout, I was wondering if you can provide any more feedback regarding the AI feature.
You mentioned that you found noise suppression almost too strong. Have you been able to try it out in additional environments? Does it reliably preserve audibility of speech? Does it let you hear speech all around you or mostly in front?
I currently have Nexias and since Vivia is essentially Nexia + AI, I’m curious about the incremental benefit.
(And I find the non-AI noise suppression not all that great. Yes, it reduces noise, but it also reduces audibility of speech)
Many thanks!
I’ve demoed the Vivia and am a current Nexia owner. The AI does an excellent job with cutting out the background noise, and isolating the voice directly in front of me. I attend 13 conferences yearly and for me this improvement justifies a purchase /upgrade.
As a bonus, IMO the Auto works flawlessly and provides an improved experience.
I easily get 20 hours use with aprx 6 hours of AI use .
Thanks @chrisbabolat, I really appreciate the feedback. Especially now that the Vivia is available at Costco, which makes it the least expensive AI hearing aid by far.
I’d love to hear from @Ureout as well. You weren’t all that excited about the Vivia. Do you still feel that way?
I would also love to hear if @Ureout feels any different about the Vivia after more time - although from @Ureout posts I did not get the impression that @Ureout wasn’t all that excited about the Vivia’s.
From @Ureout 's April 23 post
@Ureout also ordered a pair after the trial
My wife and I just ordered the Jabra Pro 30’s from Costco and will get them fitted next Friday. So I am looking forward to hearing from anyone with experience with either the Resound Vivias or Jabra Pro 30’s
We don’t use aids for TV streaming - but as we will both have Jabra Pro 30’s it may make sense to investigate a TV streamer so we can listen to TV without disturbing others. Can you stream to two aids at once? That said we quite like listening to shows and movies that support Dolby Atmos through our 5.1 system with sub
The Jabra 30’s can do Auracast.
FlooGoo is going to come out with a device that can broadcast in Auracast that should be able to hook up with most if not all TV’s.
At least one other person has been using HomeSpot. So maybe that’s an option too.

This device will probably be cheaper then a TV streamer and since Auracast is a broadcast, both hearing aids users can listen to the TV.
I have Jabra 20s so check to be sure, but yes - you can pair more than one set of Resound or Jabra HAs to a TV Streamer II or the newer TV Streamer+. (I have one of each, btw.)
Note the Resound / Jabra Streamers connect to the TV’s Optical out (or an RCA Jack), but not HDMI. If you are using a sound system, consider that and how to get everything hooked up.
When we added a soundbar I had the option to use HDMI OR Optical Out for the external sound connection, but not both at the same time. I ended up using an Optical splitter to get sound to the streamer and the soundbar at the same time.
I stream TV sound to my HAs with the sound on if my wife and I are both watching, or with the TV sound off if I’m up and she is not.
Thanks - all our TV inputs (Apple TV, Roku Firestick, Blue-Ray player) go through and are switched by our Denon Receiver. The OLED TV is just being used as a display (its annoying you can’t just get a big screen OLED display but have to get TV tuners, smart TV functions, speakers etc which add cost but we never use…)
The Denon Receiver has optical out.
I got my Pro 30s on Tuesday at Anchorage Costco. Appears that in non-AI mode, batteries will easily last all day (14hrs) with greater than 50% charge remaining. Suspect that Pro 30s in non-AI mode may be similar to Pro 20s in many respects. I ran AI assisted yesterday for several hours (~5 or 6 hrs) and ended up with dead HAs at around 14hrs. More details to follow.
I finally just got my new Vivia’s wednesday… Resound twice sent the wrong HA’s to my audi… I’m very happy with them I have 3 prog set up AA HIN and OD… again my lifestyle is quite different from many, I’m retired and play outdoor sports and wife and I go out to eat only a couple times a month… when I leave the house in the morning I have a location set in my App where my prog automatically changes from AA to OD with the Noise Filter turned on and when I return back home I have the app set to change back to AA prog… I prefer the OD prog with NF when playing softball, pickleball and golf… adding the NF quiets down the surrounding areas where as I can still hear in the general vicinity but knocks down what would normally be loud distractions… the NF also nicely quiets down my travels on my golf cart… again with my lifestyle I don’t find myelf in many NOISY enviroments… I have actually gone out to the front yard when neighbor is cuttimg his lawn to try out the HIN program and it works nicely… what I don’t understand and have expressed this to the Resound rep that I met was if the new HA’s have AI why don’t they go into different modes automatically without me having to change the program… I would think once AI “LEARNS” how I like to hear voices and noise and that if these are suppose to be INTELLIGENT HA’s they should change automatically to the enviroment I’m in… battery life is amazing on weekends I sometimes stream sports about 9 to 10 hrs and when I put HA’s in charger at night I still have 40 to 60% charge on them… these HA’s are also by far the smallest I’ve ever worn … when streaming I still liked the old vesrion where my audi could set up the streaming prog… what I have learned is that before I start streaming I change my prog back to OD with NF this automatically changes my settings on HA’s BASS MIDDLE and TREBLE to -5’s which I prefer to listen to programs this way … again before buying these I trialed all the top brands and I personally like the way I hear wearing Resounds with the Oticons coming in 2nd
Medical devices with AI generally don’t continue to learn after manufacturing. The software is developed during the design phase and locked in once the manufacturer submits for their FDA 510K approval in the US.
If you think about it, if the device continues to learn there wouldn’t be a way to validate the new learning. When you went to your Audi they wouldn’t know what your device was capable of based on the new learning. In addition when firmware updates were loaded they would wipe out any additional learning your device developed.
the point I was trying to make is that they advertise AI and how much better hearing in noisy enviroments are… well with my old aids that didn’t have AI I could do the same process of changing a program to Restaurant… to me when a MFG. is pushing AI as a selling point I shouldn’t have to physically change MY PROG MYSELF… when I enter a noisy enviroment… because then it seems like I’M the AI not the HA’s
