ReSound Rant: Streaming user experience is terrible!

I don’t know, I’m all Android.

Actually power amp can, also you can export your equaliser settings for use with other devices, unfortunately guys from what I’ve seen its only Android, here’s a screenshot from the link above.

So I just been trailing all day the new BeMore App for ReSound models, and I can confirm so far it’s way more stable, not once has its dropped a connection to the HAs, it was posted a new update was available so I tried it, so just saying when I stream or take a call I get a slider for ambient noise and when I change back to my “All Around” program the correct volume is applied and the microphones are on, this in android, sorry guys I cannot check on Apple, so I don’t understand what is going on there, but I hope with a future update from Mr Apple things will be much improved.
From the BeMore App.

@wtolkien taking this snippet with me to my Audi next week.
Constantly working on my Music settings for streaming, and 2 Music programs should help me as well. ty Went with Nexias in Dec and still working out the music/streaming issues.

The ReSound Smart 3D app is also on the same January 17th 2025 version 1.39.0 release. This is the app that I have been using for many months now (I like the burgundy color better).

I did not realize the Enhance Pro app had not been updated. I am curious why not.

I am going to have to update my partners app to one of those to see if it helps her occasional Galaxy S24 Ultra connectivity issues.

My connectivity has been rock solid since that update. She still has complaints and I have been confused as to why since mine has been great. Now I have a clue. In previous releases they came out around the same time…and I assumed.

Thank you for the notice about the BeMore app.

@KjKAN, thank you!

I hope more people follow you example and complain about the lack of an automatic streaming mode.

It might also be good to call ReSound Customer Service and complain directly.

In the US and Canada the number is:

1-888-735-4327

This number seems to apply to both Jabra and ReSound.

Likewise with my Rexton Reach. I had hoped music streaming would be at least acceptable, but it’s super inferior to just pulling out the HAs and using my Etymotic Research buds. For phone calls streaming happens but I don’t do that much and don’t care, so far (new to HAs since Dec. 5).

You need to go back to your Audiologist and have the streaming adjusted to your liking, it doesn’t do it itself, Connexx has one of best equaliser adjustments available in the software, or you can simply DIY.

How is this done? AFAIK, there’s almost no EQ available in the Rexton Reach app. There’s “Sound Balance” which is a slider that adjusts sharpness vs. softness. IIRC, the Philips 9050 has a 3 band EQ, which is somewhat better than the Rexton slider, but not a whole lot. Is Connexx a separate app I can add to my Pixel 8 that will provide relatively robust EQ to Rexton music streaming and maybe the Rexton programs too?

As far as going back to my audiologist, well, I have an appt with a fitter (or whatever they’re called) at Costco in 8 days, for my 2nd adjustment session. I’ve been trying to think of things to address, but here’s one… streaming music. I’d given up, but maybe it’s not a lost cause. The last 3-4 days or so I’ve just left the HAs on the Automatic program the original fitter came up for me after REMs. It came off as too shrill initially and I didn’t use it but now after a couple months I’m WTH, I’ll stop using the program developed at the 1st adjustment which was simply a slight roll-off of highs of the initial Automatic program, or so I figured. I don’t know if it carried the AI components of the Automatic program. I wonder if the Costco people would even know!

If you go to your audiologist you can have it auto mute the mics (at least for Resound) when streaming. By default it is set to -3db.
Then when you start streaming it will automatically mute the mics and when you stop streaming it will unmute after a few seconds.

Note if you then adjust the slider whilst streaming in app it will not reset once streaming has complete. Seems reasonable as it should accept that as a wanted manual override and then it becomes the same as adjusting the mic in any other situation.

Just got mine back and DIY so tried it out. Video shows it working using my audio output shortcut as I could t capture the change with music playing and screen recording. Works the same with a small delay when playing/pausing audio.

I find this method better than Phonak which seemed to change output volume rather than input volume.

It’s done in the Connexx software not on the App, your probably using open domes as well, if so then you lose a lot of the Bass, closed domes or custom molds with the correct sized vent would be better. So no you can’t use Connexx software on your pixel, it’s on PC only.

Yeah this is normal for new users, it takes time for the brain to adjust to the new high frequencys that you’ve lost over time.

@Mike_A: nice audio output shortcut! Can I ask how you set that up?

I have disagree with your “Seems reasonable…” statement though. That’s exactly what my core complaint is. If I manually change settings during streaming, I think it way more reasonable to assume that the changed settings should only apply during streaming and should automatically revert when streaming ends.

Or, even better, just have dedicated settings for streaming.

Hopefully, in the meantime, by boosting the bass, the treble , and the midrange seems to help. Also cranking up the volume helps. It’s not perfect but it’s more convenient than switching out the hearing aids for Apple iPods every time you want to listen to streaming music.

Sure here you go:

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d0b010b7ced54cbca3567d8e90557c99

Just select your outputs and name things in the menu to suit.

I’ve got it set up as via the action button but you can also put it in control centre.

I think we will always have trade offs and they are brand dependant. If I’m going on a long journey or at home I’ll use headphones. If I’m on the bus or watching a brief clip hearing aids are fine. They are significantly more limited given size and frequency range.

Not OP, but I also have some problems with the audio streaming, specifically calls.
I wonder if the ReSound software allows adjusting just the streaming settings? My Audiologist (who doesn’t normally fit ReSound) told me he can’t look into that for me, he can only adjust what the mic picks up.

I already ordered a NoahLink and planning to go that route, regardless.

Yes you can make some adjustments, but not quite like say Connexx or Target, I simply can’t remember exactly what program streaming is based on right now, I think it was @david.hendon who posted on this?
But regardless you’ll be able to make improvements that your Audiologist didn’t do.

With ReSound, your Audi can only do two things: Set an opague ‘Bass Boost’, and lower the default volume coming from the HA microphones relative to the streaming sound. And you can’t even set the HA microphones to stay as-is during streaming. 3db attenuation is the minimum.

If ‘M=Accessory’ is meant to use the phone’s microphone, then that doesn’t work on iPhone. Bass Boost was buggy before firmware 9.68.

If you make any manual adjustments during streaming (via the App), those adjustments will persist after streaming stops, so you have to manually revert them.

For comparison, here is what an Audi can do with Starkey HAs. To me, that’s the benchmark that all others should be measured against:

The screenshot shows the ‘Audio Streaming’ settings. Starkey has created a separate program that automatically activates when streaming. All other regular programs are configured via the ‘Programs’ link on the left.

Notice the ‘Start Demo Mode’ button at the bottom. The Audi is supposed to let the customer listen to streamed content from the customer’s phone and then adjust the gain settings according to the customer’s comments.

ReSound, please just copy what Starkey is doing!

Yes, I have open domes. The fitter said the Rexton domes wouldn’t work for me (I’m too big, I guess, although 5’10" M), and he went and got Philips domes. If the Connexx would just be for PC, not phone, I don’t know that it would help. If it’s just for EQ, maybe not because I use Musicolet player (I listen to MP3s, occasionally WAVs), and Musicolet has a big ole EQ facility. I set it up a week ago or so on my Pixel 8, something like 20 bands. I boosted up the treble a bunch because I’m close to normal in lower bands. On my PC I use an old version of Winamp, although I intend to switch to a newer version on recommendation. However, I don’t listen to digital music a lot on my PC. If I watch a YT video, I usually just have the sound coming from my laptop speakers and leave my HA’s in. Sure sounds better than before I got my 1st HAs early December.

Yeah so your loosing a lot of Bass out those open domes, this is usually what people complain about, a lack of bass low frequencies, the closed click sleeves would be something to look into, not sure why your fitter didn’t think you can use the Signia/Rexton ones.

This is far superior for fitting your HAs up first for streaming music, this is what your Audiologist uses, next step you can then tweak with your music player, I use PowerAmp from the Play store, I’m sure you could improve even more, a DIY project sounds like something you could do.

@tenkan Can the PowerAmp App subvert the Resound TV streamer + as well to give me better sound quality? I am not technical.

I don’t think so, it’s a phone App so has to play through the phone I believe.

I don’t bother with the Smart 3D app and instead just manage streaming directly within iOS Control Centre. Swipe down to bring up Control Centre (depending on iPhone/iOS version), control the streaming volume and play/pause through the normal media controls. Add Hearing Devices to the Control Centre, press it and it pops up with a volume slider for microphone control.

Sometimes simply stop streaming with cause the microphone level to reset by itself as well.

That said I sometimes still find it quicker to turn the aid on and off (by opening and closing the battery compartment) to reset the microphone level to my default setting!
