I got the ReSound Preza 861 hearing aids at COSTCO about a week ago. Speech clarity is very good.
But, even with custom molds, feedback in my left ear makes them useless. Even without the feedback I am not sure I would keep them. The ReSound Smart 3D app works on my Samsung phone (after a lot of messing around). That is the only way to change the volume. That is all the Bluetooth connection does…no Phone Audio or Media Audio.
Your left and right ears are pretty much the same for loss in the feedback prone area. If you can get relief from feedback with one you should also with the other. It may be a matter or changing the mold type and material. Softer silicone is said to provide the most acoustic isolation. I also wonder if the vent size may be a bit too large.
To take advantage of the Smart 3D app you need an iPhone, as ReSound makes their aids to the MFi standard from Apple.
The 3D app works fine on my Samsung phone. I used it to update each hearing aid. I can also change the volume and frequency response curves. It looks like I would need the ReSound Phone Clip Unite+ to do what my current hearing aids do without any kind of additional “clip”.
An iPhone will give you wireless phone and media audio, with no need to buy an intermediate hardware device. If you want that with an Android phone, you would need to look at a Phonak Marvel, or Costco KS9. They will do wireless direct from an Android phone.
@Sierra - the Smart 3D app has a direct connect between phone and HA’s. Depending upon how the HCP has set up the HA’s, too, the left and right buttons on the HA’s themselves can be used to change volume. For me, a quick press on the left HA lowers volume, right HA raises it. Longer, few sec presses change HA programs. If one has the Phone Clip+ streamer, that can also serve as a HA remote control when it’s not being used to stream. And although it’s an extra device to remember to charge and carry if you want to use it, it gives hands-free audio with your phone - I don’t think you get that with the iPhone with direct streaming - unless you have the Marvels. But then with the Marvels, you get that with Android, too. I’d say the big advantage of the iPhone besides direct streaming is the Apple Watch as a remote control. But right now I don’t feel it’s worth all the big bucks for an Apple device and getting locked into their walled garden of devices and services. I like the developing Google-Amazon-Microsoft trifecta (with Samsung, LG, OnePlus, HuaWei) and all that other stuff thrown in for now - may change my mind in the future.
Point taken. I like to go simple and just use the iPhone for both a remote control and wireless audio streaming, with no extra gadgets at added expense. I used my iPhone Map app the first time the other day for GPS navigation in the car. It was pretty cool to drive with this lady which seemed to be located right in my head telling me where to turn to get to where I was going. Nobody else in the car knows I’m using it, and think I am doing it all by myself!

When I return the Prezas at my follow-up appointment I am going to ask about trying the KS9s. At my first appointment, she showed me the KS9s since those were the ones I was interested in but she didn’t think they would work for me and ordered the Prezas for me to try. I assumed she knew what was best for me.
“vent size may be too large”
The vents are plugged with clear plastic rods.
I lowered the volume and selected noise filter. They are useable. I will see how they work with the family here for dinner tonight.
Later.
With the volume low enough to reduce feedback they are not useable. No setting works well.
After charging the hearing aids, my phone had to be restarted to enable the 3D app to connect to the hearing aids.
That is the end of my trial.

Am I correct in seeing that Resound now support Android 10?. So far only Google Pixel, but I guess it will roll out to Samsung.
For me it’s worth getting a Google phone.!
Just in the process of getting a new pair of HA’s. Costco Sydney have the Preza (Quattro 9?) for AUD$3600. Competitor providers are about double.
Only the ReSound Quattro is supposed to be supported, when an update rolls out from ReSound. None of the Costco ReSounds aids are support now, who knows for the future…
Thks. I will be looking at the Preza , so will have to decide if I go with Costco on the basis of streaming provision or Quattro from another provider.
Another device in between the phone and the HA’s is something else for me to lose.
Ok. Decided to go for the KS9’s. Not rechargeable but AUD 1900 was pretty good. My provider allows me to claim every 3 calendar years so it’s really just 2 year wait to see how I like them.
By then the progress on rechargeables et al should be noticeable.
Hi, I am in my trial period for a pair of Prezas that I recently had fitted. I first tried the KS9’s but had a couple of issues with them. I swapped for the Prezas but am having different issues with them.
Is anyone experiencing the HAs loosing BT connectivity with your Iphone? I have them paired to an Iphone XR and sometimes (twice now) the app cannot find the HAs even though Mifi on the Iphone does see them. Bluetooth is not showing them in the list of known devices. If I go into Setings -> Accessibility -> Hearing Devices and forget the devices, then rediscover them in BT, they reappear.
I’m also finding the audio quite harsh and bright compared to the KS9s, which bothers me. The volume is almost too loud. I have had a refitting once already and am scheduled for another one this week. I might move back to the KS9s even though I dislike having to replace batteries. At least they worked halfway not bad.
This is a somewhat related reply regarding the BT connectivity. I also have the Prezas for the last few months, but with an Android phone (Note 9). I recently received the Android 10 software update to permit the paring of my phone to the Prezas for phone calls and for listening to music/YouTube videos. This works great once connected. However, I also have the non-rechargeable Prezas. So, in the morning, the phone call connection sometimes works for both ears, and sometimes only one. If only one, I end up having to delete the paring and start over, sometimes requiring a reboot of my phone. Still learning how this part works, just not as trouble free as I would prefer. Is this a Bluetooth issue, as it involves an Android phone on my part, and a Iphone on yours? I just thought this was a “feature” (bug) that would eventually be worked out.
I am in a trial period for the Resound Quattro 9’s (similar time the Prezas) and I have experienced the same phenomenon with the app not seeing the aids, however my iPhone 8 MiFI does. The ‘trick’ I use is swipe up, turn off Bluetooth, wait a couple seconds and turn Bluetooth back on. The apps sees them afterwards. Certainly annoying, however it is a bit quicker to have the app reconnect with the devices. I also find I need to open the app on my phone in order for my Apple Watch to see the devices. Not ideal.
I have not had much issue with the sound and actually am getting used to them - I had Halo2 previously. With my fitting I am getting a tremendous amount of feedback. I am hoping new molds and a HP receiver it will take care of this issue.
Does the Preza have the capability to BT to more than one device? My current resound Cala 8 (2017) model can only connect to my iPhone, but not my iPad until I turn off BT on my phone and turn BT on my iPad.
I thought I read that the Preza can connect to two devices. Please confirm. Thanks.
I am currently evaluating the KS9 vs the Preza for my next set. A very challenging decision.
Update: contacted Resound and they told me the Preza will still only connect to one device at a time.
Just wanted to chime in as a recent purchaser of the Resound Preza from Costco. Freaking love them! My previous HA were Phonak Audeo that I purchased back in 2012. Back then, you needed a Compilot that you wore around your neck to connect to your phone.
My neighbor purchased the Resounds Quatro and paid a heck of a lot more. While its hard to compare, for the price, I am very satisfied with the Preza. Here are my 2 cents for anyone researching like I did.
I almost went the route of getting the battery ones vs the rechargeable. I was worried about running low and having to recharge. I’m a heavy user and stream constantly. Almost went with the battery model, but decided to try the rechargeable. Glad I did. No more having batteries laying around. I stream constantly and when I place my HA in the charger at night, I’m still at 3/4 bars of battery life.
Glad to hear your happy with the Resound Preza. I too am going to order them at my next Costco visit, but first I have to get my ears cleared up before they will do a hearing test. They could not see my left eardrum due to a slight infection so I went to my ENT and I am putting drops in the infected ear.
My biggest challenge is whether or not to get a custom mold for the left canal since it’s always draining and I can’t seem to find a dome that is comfortable.
I intend to have the Preza set up with three programs; All around, restaurant and music. Did you set up three programs?
Lastly, I am trying to decide on the rechargeable or stay with my 13 size batteries, so your comment regarding your satisfaction with the rechargeable was interesting.
I highly recommend the rechargeable. I still find packages of batteries all over the place from my old pair. Pain in the a$$.
The tech set me up with 4 programs. All around (default), Restaurant (mics focused to the front), Music, and outdoor. I probably spend 98% of my time in all around. The only other one I use is restaurant. I use this when I want to drown out the noise behind me. The app is awesome and i basically just fiddle with the volume controls and toggling speech clarity.
