I picked up a pair of Costco Jabra Enhance Pro 30 HAs last Tuesday. This was the day after they arrived at my Costco store. Currently I am getting about 12 hours battery life in “Hear in noise” mode where the #2 AI chip is engaged. In regular “All-Around” mode I’d estimate battery life as approximately 28 hours on one charge. My Costco fitter only created these two modes on my devices. I am wondering if other Costco fitters, or audiologists fitting the Resound version of this device, the Vivia 9, are creating additional “advanced” modes? I am aware that the user can create other modes with varied frequencies. I was wondering if it was possible for fitters to selectively amplify the forward microphones and create what may have been called “Restaurant mode” in the Nexia and other previous devices. Thanks in advance.
We (my wife and I) get our Jabra Pro 30’s fitted at Costco on Friday.
Yes I would be interested in what modes can be added.
On my Eargo 7’s I have Normal, Restaurant, TV and Music and the ability to adjust the noise filter in any of these modes from emphasize speech, reduce noise for comfort or adjust automatically.
Apart from TV mode all of these are useful and I would hope to have at least these options (or similar) on the Jabra Pro 30’s.
(I think hear-in-noise would be similar to restaurant).
How are you finding your Jabra Pro 30’s? What did you have before?
I had Jabra 500 OTC HAs for one month prior to returning them and getting the 30’s at Costco. Raw ears before that. I am fairly happy with the 30s. The 30s in non-AI mode (“All-Around”) seem very similar to the Jabra 500 HAs which do not have an AI mode. I have not taken them into high noise environments (e.g. crowds) very much yet in the week that I have had them.
Lots can be achieved in SmartFit software if the customer asks for different things, did you notice in the App you can change the microphone mode, I’m sure they have the same programs available as usual.
The Jabras have the same programs available as the ReSound Vivias. There is an outdoor and music program, too.
Restaurant mode is an older name for “Hear in Noise. It changes the focus to the speaker in front of you.
You shouldn’t need to be in Hear in Noise all day. If you are, tweaks should be made to the Environmental Optimizer Ii and Noise Tracker II settings by the fitter, or the fitter can make a custom program.
The fitter can also adjust various settings within each program, so they aren’t creating advanced programs. Just tweaking default settings.
When I was first fitted with my Jabra Enhanced Pro 20s at Costco, my fitter only gave me All Around and Hear in noise. When I returned for the follow up visit she gave me the music, and streaming cards. Also, in hear in noise, they should also give you the speech focus selection in the Hear in noise sliders.
I have never used the Hear in noise card more than a couple of hours when in noisy environments. I never tried to see how long or short the battery life is when leaving them in the noise card.
I have most of those mentioned plus “Music” and “Outdoor”–the latter I like and use a lot. It’s kind of a boosted All-Around. I’ve never been advised when to likely use “Outdoor”–I find it helpful in any big open space like a building lobby or a large store, as well as when walking/talking in the park. It certainly brings the birds in loud & clear!
I am interested in the “Outdoor” and “Music” modes. Do any of our resident experts know if these are settings that can be arrived at via the Android/Iphone frontend, or if we need to see a fitter, or do this ourselves via the Smartfit software? Thanks in advance.
They need to be added by the Costco fitter (or yourself if you DIY). You would then have the option to choose the programs via the Jabra app.
I was just fitted with jabra enhance pro 30. Is there any way to add tinnitus manager to the app
You’ll need to have it added in the software (SmartFit) first.
And the Costco fitter cannot do that. A patient would have to go the DIY route.
I’m presently Self Programming a pair of Resound RT961, with R.S.Smart Fit - reasonably sucessfully.
Thinking about purchasing O.T.C. Jabras Enhance Pro 30s, Would I be able to continue Self Programming the Jabras with Smart Fit? and any thoughts on likely improvements I could expect for ‘Hearing in Noise’ situations should I decide to go this route.
Thanks in anticipation.
From previous post by people with the OTC Jabras … they will not connect to SmartFit software.
just get the Jabra 30’s from costco … cheaper and a better HA.
EDIT:
I interpreted your post wrong … The Jabra 30’s will program with smart fit
But the Jabra 30 are not OTC … they are prescription for Costco
Yep correct, it’s something they just don’t want to get into for whatever reason.
Yes absolutely you’ll be able to continue your DIY projects.
My wife and I had our Jabra Pro 30’s fitted today.
The experience at our local Costco was very good. The fitter seemed knowledgeable and spent time to explain everything clearly. The “fitting” process was
- He programmed the aids to our Audiograms
- I asked which programs he would set up. He normally sets up All-Around, Hear in Noise and Outdoor at a first fitting. I asked if he could add Music and he said no problem so we got all four.
- He did some REM tests (7 foreign languages at once?) and tweaks and iterations for both of us.
- He took us through the features of the aids, the charger and app (showing us how to adjust in accessibility on the iPhone control panel and in the app)
- Got Bluetooth connected and he explained the settings he would recommend for Bluetooth
- Set up an appointment for two week to check how we are doing and make any tweaks.
For the music program he said he could adjust that later to suit our listening. He says he has musician clients and spends time setting their aids up to suit their instrument. He also encouraged us to come back after the two week appointment as needed for tweaks / questions etc.
All in all we were very impressed with the Costco experience.
For the hearing aids.
- My wife has never worn any kind of hearing aid before so she is finding them a bit overwhelming but we are saying give it a few weeks for your brain to adjust
- I have been wearing OTC aids (Eargo 7 / Airpod Pro’s) so the change is not so abrupt for me.
I will give it a few days before commenting too much on the various programs but so far the aids sound pretty good and at least my wife and I haven’t been saying what, eh etc to each other since the fitting!
While I was typing this my wife called me the aids worked perfectly for a the call. Sound was great for both of us!
Thanks for the description of your experience with Costco. Mine was similar. Hope your devices work out for you both. Keep us posted. Best regards.
That’s good news, thanks for that. Hoping to purchase in Costco Toronto on my next visit.
I would appreciate any guidance / information available that might help me with the initial purchase in store.
In my experience with Costco in US, they need a recent audiogram. The initial visit is a quick trial in the store. If you decide to buy the aids, they have to order them. They arrive in about one to two weeks. Then they do the REM fitting. So it requires a couple of visits.
