If everyone had the experience I was having, I think everyone would be happy with their HAs!
Gogoshire,
I live in NOCO and just discovered I need to get HAs. Would you mind sharing with me the name and/or contact info of your audi group? If they turn out to be near where I live, I’d love to be able go to someone who comes highly recommended.
Thanks.
Sure! It’s Family Hearing Center, and they have 4 offices in Boulder, Layfayette, Broomfield and Estes Park. My audi is Susan in Estes, and she is awesome. I’ve also had one fitting done by Christopher, the owner, and he’s fantastic, too! My landlord goes to Karima in Boulder and loves her. FHC is a member of Audigy Group, too, so if you get HAs from them, and then move, you can go to any Audigy place worldwide and you’re set. They can plug you in and pull your HA setting info up on the computer. Pretty groovy.
Here’s the website:
They do free screenings first, and you can tell them Maureen from Estes sent you.
Thanks so much. Those location are a bit far from where I am but I’ll look into it and see what I find. Going with someplace that has multiple locations is nice in case we end up moving so thanks for the suggestion!
I totally understand. I wouldn’t get as much out of this place if I had a long drive because I wouldn’t be as willing to go to as many fittings. I should have specified North east Colorado.

I am loving my new Oticon Agil miniRITE power plus dome. What a difference- so quiet in some areas where widex where so very noisy,Car tyres on the road made such a sound. This new oticon,so far,so good.
I have been given cleaning tools/domes or batteries for trial(perhaps that is a reg thing or audio forgotten/ as she has seemed so very stressed at her work).I also phoned her yesterday and asked for trial of oticon agil pro–but she will not have time to see me for that until a few weeks.Meanwhile, would give me time to discover more about these. The oticon pro here, cost much more.I think about 1500.00 more dols /nz.
OOOpppsss i missed out a word–]
I was meant to say.I was NOT given tools/batteries/domes for trial. And reading in the booklet of instructions one is meant to clean speaker unit daily .
Has anyone had issues with the domes? Are they easy to change?I have a plus dome.Anyone experienced that?
Thanks for any help.
This forum is very helpful-and learnt much! Thanks all.
Tracey, to clean the aids, once a day as when you’re putting them “to bed” at night, open the battery door to power them off, and just wipe them all over (not just the speaker or dome part) with a damp cloth or tissue. Examine the domes under a bright light. Sometimes you’ll see wax in one of the openings. It can be teased and squeezed out with a damp tissue or small brush or pointed object. I think the domes are easy to change just by twisting off and on, but they usually last longer than a trial. I also need a plus size dome to help hold the microphone in my ear. Once in awhile they itch, but the ear canal gets used to them. My audiologist gives batteries for demo trials, but no tools or extra domes, either. The batteries needed changing every four days or so when they’re on 16 hours a day, and you can buy 312 batteries for an Agil at a drug store or Wal-Mart type store.
Just purchased pair of Agil Pro minis at $4805, including streamer from www.discounthearingaidsofnewengland.com - good price, I feel, and very happy with the products. Their demo policy is very good - 45 days w/ no admin fee if returned.
Thanks for that info.
The domes are strange looking aren’t they?
I have not yet fiddled much with programmes.
thought I best get used to the whole aid first. It is the first time i have had receiver in the ear.I have had widex CIC for some years and never trialled anything else.
I had hoped music would be much better.
A diff audio today told me there is very little diff between oticon agil Pro and oticon agil.he said i would not find music better with the Pro model.Strange, they are not encouraging me to trial.I have to wait .Perhaps they are correct.Anyone have any idea?
I think that is true. My audiologist only had the Agil Pro avalable for demo, so I didn’t get to try the Agil for comparison. But my audiologist agreed with yours. The main difference has to do with noise reduction, which is a little better in the Agil Pro, but perhaps not enough to make a big noticeable difference in performance. I don’t think music would sound different between the two models. I ended up choosing a different aid altogether yesterday, the ReSound Alera 7. It’s a little less expensive and does Bluetooth a bit better than the Agil/Agil Pro, but I would have been very happy with the Agil Pro if price was no object and if I didn’t care about Bluetooth. They are excellent aids, no question, and I think the Agils would be too.
A couple of things could be happening with the music for you. It’s possible the music would sound much better to you after an adjustment by your audiologist. Try to think specifically about what sounds wrong with music so you can describe it to your audiologist and help guide the adjustment, such as: the bass is too weak, or the music sounds muffled or lifeless, or it’s too bright. It’s also possible that your brain just needs a week or two to adjust to the new sounds you’re hearing that you didn’t hear with the Widex. I thought the Agil Pros were excellent with music after my first adjustment, and as I say, I think the Agils would be just as good with it. But what works for one person doesn’t always work with the next.
I suspect the prices you mentioned in an earlier post in this thread are off, comparing the Agil to the Agil Pro. This website, for example, prices both models at $3,199 per ear:
My audiologist had them at a similar price, only the Agil Pro was a couple of hundred dollars more per ear than the Agil, which I think is more typical.
thanks for that info.
I looked at those prices/so very different in this country.
Different places have very diff prices here.(from what i have discovered so far).
I see there is quite a diff from what u bought and the agil.
The agil pro here is much dearer-and I spoke to a diff audio yesterday(when I returned the widex I had trialed for 2 months)-and he said he was not even bothering showing people the agil pro.
The resound you are very happy with?I had managed on faulty aids for most of this year.Disfunctional aids and travelling caused havoc.I had to hold on/press my old widex aid when attempting to hear people. The fit needed adjusting from what i know now.I did loose much weight and that would have affected the fit,.And the other aid was working about 1/3 capacity.Had been repaired several times and was not able to be repaired again-so i was urgently needing replacements.
I had heard oticon not so good always for blue tooth.Do you make use of blue tooth every day?
I have not ventured into that yet-so i have not yet taken advantage of what is out there.
When i was travelling in diff country i went to 3 audiologists/and got told diff info.i was utterly confused and price was way out of reach-so I just had to wait till back to see audio I knew.I think the higher prices offered back up support etc/ but would be no use for me if not living in area.
I found widex here give much back up and tools here.Oticon, just the batteries in aid!
I am so pleased to be finding out more about my hearing loss.About time I did!-at same
Re/ trial of OTICON miniRITE agil.FRUSTRATIONS
Having more time to discover what else with these aids.
I have not watched much telly since I had the aids.Last night I attempted to enjoy a movie.Very frustrating-some voices I just was not able to understand what was said.I heard the noise of voice but unable to follow conversation.Strangely,it was a soft female voice (which i struggle with anyway)-BUT I found one of my old widex and used it to hear.
Also,my head felt strange–and decided not to bother with movie–as perhaps the new aid my brain has to cope with and get familiar with.I will have to check out as many more different environments.Plus check more television.
I am finding listening to music–the deep voices do not sound as bass as I would like.Mmmm
I know there is no perfect hearing aid–but we have to find a balance.
I usually have listened to some music with out the aids. But,of course i would miss so much.
I did wish to find new aids whereby voices and music were better than the technology of my 7 years old widex aids.
any hints ?
$3275 here in northern California. Includes streamer, batteries and adjustments for 5 years.
I just upgraded from a set of 18 month old Epoqs to Agils, the Agils mop the floor with the Epoqs!
I am being quoted $4,361. per Agil Pro.
This is in Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area).
From what I have seen in this thread, it’s very high.
Am I being taken?
Thanks for your comments.
DDDDDANNNNNG… Check for an alternative audi
HaHa joke’s on me. I read SwissPete’s first post and thought, “What’s with this guy? That seems like a good price to me…” Then I read xbulder’s reply, realized it must be me, and looked back again.
$4,361 PER hearing aid. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Yeah that’s a rip. A pair with bundled goodies including fit and some adjustments should start with no more than a 6, IMO, unless sales tax kicks it over to a 7.
Call around. I bet you can get a much better price. And if you get a few quotes, and like everything else about this audiologist but that price, take the quotes in and I bet the audiologist re-runs the math and comes up with a better offer.
I know it’s standard in the biz to quote “per ear,” but I wish they wouldn’t do that unless the customer only needs one aid. But that’s a battle I’m not going to win. It does make for confusion and sticker shock to those who aren’t paying attention.
Oticon sounds sharper than Widex, but you seem to have a fitting problem, especially with the soft sounds. It may be because the hearing aid thinks it is generating higher sound pressure level than it actually does. If you had to increase the volume of your initial fitting substantially, then it is probably the case. Increasing gain for soft sounds is not the right approach. You need to decrease your RECD (Real-ear-to-coupler-difference) values.
First set of aids. My pair of AGIL MINI PRO RTE cost $5200 plus got a few hundred off for single payment. This is through an Audiologist in Seattle, includes batteries etc. but not Streamer I have nothing to compare them to, but after a few tuneups, I’m getting quite used to them.
