Phonak sphere UP Version.?

I have no idea what your flagged comment said as it was flagged before I even visited this thread again :person_shrugging:

I am a published author in this area and am well aware of the limitations of CI technology.

An individual’s subjective impression is unique to them and if some CI users are ok with how music sounds or enjoy listening to specific genre’s of music or playing percussion instruments while listening through their CI then that is their experience and how could I possibly disagree with them?

The point I was making is that taking a single case like Huey Lewis and claiming that every CI user will hate with their music experience doesn’t necessarily reflect the perspective of all adult CI users. Children who have only heard through a CI certainly don’t feel the same way about music as adults with musical experience.

I am supportive of individual choice when it comes to personal medical decisions. I’m not pro-CI but I’m also not anti-CI either. I think learning some form of sign language is a good idea for anyone who has good eyesight and has a severe or greater degree of hearing loss if only so they can continue communicating with others should they no longer have access to technology.

If your posts are being flagged by community members I suggest you re-read the community guidelines and check that you’re following them. I am grateful that hearing tracker has provided us with this forum. I enjoy learning from the shared experiences of community members

We generally try to not be argumentative here, that’s all.

As somebody mentioned, it does not seem possible to delete one’s account. It is possible to anonymize it as it seems you have done. If one wants to leave the forum it seems like the best one could do would be to click on Preferences, then Notifications and disable all notifications.

It should be made easy to delete account and any associated posts, after all, if google have this option, why not this forum.

In fact, this is against the law not to have option to delete account and posts.

Sandra I did the same. I’m 70, was evaluated and approved for cochlear earlier this year, but the pros/cons were out of whack for me. Since hearing aid technology continues to improve, I chose to upgrade to the Phonak Spheres with custom molds. I love them and feel in a few years there will continue to be major improvements.

Unfortnately CI technology is now really old and out dated. First CI were done 50 plus years ago and haven’ really changed that much. More surgery wise then component.wise. CI are pretty much ā€œlast resortā€ options where you have nothing to lose if you’ve lost most or all of your hearing. For those who still retain some residual hearing its best to hold out as long as you can and see what A.I. hearing aids will bring to the table. Wouldn’t be surprised if in two to four years Apple enters the HA market. Though should that happen the company will probably address hearing loss for the mild to mid range.

CI technology, like everything else has improved a lot since the first implant but like hearing aids the basic concept remains the same. To say that they’re ā€œoutdated technologyā€ isn’t entirely accurate. Their limitations are to do with the physiological environment they interface with which is the same case with hearing aids.

End user performance is such that prior to the latest generation of hearing aids if a person had a bilateral severe hearing loss or greater degree of loss and less than 60% open set word recognition on average they’d do better with a CI. Most of these achieve ceiling level word recognition performance in quiet and good performance in noise. This is significant different to the early CIs which were used as an aid to lip reading only.

Advances in technology like the Phonak deepsonic chip can have a really positive impact on the lives of individuals with hearing impairment and shift them out of CI candidacy criteria, but that isn’t the case for every user.

If the deepsonic chip is integrated into Naida CIs we may see similar benefits for CI recipients.

I can’t imagine telling someone with, say, moderately severe loss but 38% word recognition to hold out as long as they can when a CI could give them 80%. Holding out as long as you can is how long term auditory deprivation leads to worse outcomes.

Back on track.
Boots audio told me yesterday that they were promised an infinio bte last year but still waiting. She said it usually means there’s something wrong with it!

I thought that Naida comes around 9 months-ish after Audeo!
I suppose we are still within the time frame for Naida infinio to be released by year end!!!

The question is, will it be with infinio sphere or just infinio?

Also, why does 675 batteries don’t have enough juice for the infinio sphere processing?
I find it hard to believe.

Thx

The rechargable batteries have a higher voltage than the disposal batteries. At least that’s my understanding.

PowerPoint Presentation

There is example of CI development. From single-channel CI to multiple-channel.

I would prefer cochlear hair cell regeneration than CI. That would be perfect.

However, this invention and the related research will take at least a dozen years, if not more — at this point, we can’t see an end to it — and I’ll be approaching retirement by then.

In the meantime, I will miss out on many social opportunities that CI could help me enjoy, simply because I will be waiting stubbornly for the perfect solution.

Many people who finally decided to get a CI implant after a long period of procrastination regretted not deciding to do it sooner, because they could have enjoyed all the moments in life that mattered more along the way with the implant.

CI isn’t perfect. I would never recommend them to anyone who could benefit fully from HAs, as the latter are less cumbersome. However, in case of poor word recognition, at this point there is no other solution.

Is that so?
I have seen folks with implants at weddings and social events, and some, specifically 20-40 years old, are very active and seem like they are hearing the music.
They look like they are singing along with the music.
It is energetic music. Perhaps they are also feeling the energy and floor shake, but really seems like they can hear, and also communicate with others around them.

CI perfectly reflects the rhythm. Worse is the recognition of pitch, because 22 electrodes replace ~3500 cochlear inner hair cells. Hovewer, it all depends on the amount and quality of listening training with music. In terms of a glorious exception - there was the case of a professional violinist who even learned to tune his instrument and not be off tune compared to another musicians.

There is some insight from professional musician:

Getting the thread back on topic from the CI agenda that should be discussed in another thread…

Are there any updates or news regarding any upcoming Phonak Naida Sphere UP version (and plus CROS, in my case)? Are we pretty much going to be waiting until September in this case?

There doesn’t seem to be any news just yet. Thanks for bringing it back around!

Or maybe longer…2026?

Who knows. September would be ok !
