I’ll wait to see what happens. I’m interested in the sphere function and need UP so won’t be upgrading unless it has that. What makes you think it won’t ?
It needs more power to drive the Sphere which you might not get with just a 675.
Well hopefully they won’t bring it out unless they resolve that issue somehow.
Yes, that’s my thought as well. The sphere relies on the rechargeable battery, but they have not yet been able to build a stable UP BTE with a rechargeable battery. So they could bring out a rechargeable power BTE easily enough, but that’s not enough power for you.
You could try the RIC with a deep custom tip, but may be disappointed.
Your Audiogram confuses me. It sounds like you still have some hearing, in both ears, above 1KHz??
My hearing is very strange. Is it because my ears have been trained by listening to music constantly since I was little?
When I say I can still hear music, I mean I use these Samsung headphones.
Obviously, I have to turn it up to 80% volume on my phone, and they have bass. I really enjoy music with them.
Me too, same on both. I90 with UP Receiver and Severe to Profound
Many CI users dislike the way music sounds through a CI, most of them being adults whose memory of music differs drastically from what a CI can provide in terms of spectral resolution.
It isn’t surprising that a trained musician would find the sound quality unacceptable as they previously had finer frequency discrimination than untrained listeners.
However this isn’t the case for all musicians or all users. It depends on the instrument being played, the perception of percussion instruments being more dependent on timing information. Adult users of bimodal or electroacoustic stimulation do best, getting the information benefit of improved audibility for mid and high pitched tones for improved speech understanding while retaining access to more accurate pitch information, particularly fundamental and formant frequency information from low frequency acoustic hearing.
As usual, you distort information. Music in CI does not depend on the person himself. CI is basically unable to convey the nuances of music.
I don’t get that impression at all from reading the link. Did you even read it through?

You???
Mmm. But 1) There’s a difference between what the technology can do and what the brain can do with what the technology does and 2) generally it’s not a choice between a cochlear implant and a normal ear, it’s a choice between a cochlear implant and a broken ear. Profound hearing loss also results in poor pitch resolution and poor tone and timbre. Or depending on the individual no pitch resolution above 1kHz.
Difficulty doesn’t mean impossible. Many of those discussions talk about musicians enjoying music again and continuing to play.

I agree with Neville on this - my brain has adapted amazingly to my hearing loss when it comes to speech, music etc. that’s why I do so well with my hearing aids. It’s not perfect of course but with a caring and understanding husband who is endlessly willing to repeat , rephrase etc and with the Roger Tech and captioning I can do everything I need and want to do. This includes listening to music either through streaming from my phone, or through a Bose speaker with my aids on music programme. I can even follow the lyrics on my phone. I played piano and trumpet in my youth so I do have a trained ear although never played professionally I achieved grade 8 in both and also theory.
So if someone had a CI I would expect them to be able to adapt in a similar way and for their brain to compensate and work with the technology.
Maybe. But if you haven’t understood speech since childhood, CI won’t give you that opportunity back. This is often overlooked. CI is a business with a lot of money. Those who have installed CI will not be able to return back to hearing aids. Cash cows.
Exactly why I don’t want to risk it. I didn’t lose my hearing till I was in my 30s and got my aids at 39.
Someone complained about my comment. The truth hurts someone’s eyes. People who run businesses based on CI, hearing aids, and remote microphones don’t want to see posts that could lower their sales. If the forum administration is on their side, I will prefer to delete my account from here. How to do it?
You haven’t said anything offensive as far as I can see. If someone doesn’t like what you say they can scroll by.
No, they chose to attack me. I think it’s the same “Hearing potential” account. His words as a provider are more important for the forum administration. I don’t like it.
