Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP - My own voice and people close to me disappears in noisy environments

Hello everyone.
I am a new user on this forum, also a Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP user and I have bilateral severe to profound hearing loss.

Something is happening to me that has never happened before with previous hearing aids.

It happens that lately in noisy environments, for example: when I’m walking down the street and many vehicles pass by, when it’s raining, when there is a lot of noise from people working in the background… in all those environments, my own voice and that of the person close to me, disappears little by little and only the noisy environment continues to be heard (Obviously not so loud since it has noise reduction activated) I practically become mute as I can not hear my own voice. This happens even if I deactivate the noise reduction from the myPhonak app… a disgrace.

Everything goes back to normal when that noisy environment disappears and I can hear again my voice and that of others nearby…

I have the Essential version Phonak Naida Lumity 30 UP (I can’t afford more advanced ones as they are very expensive in my country).

Has anyone with experience gone through this? Do you have a solution? or do I resign myself to being mute in noisy environments?

Note:
I use a new earmold type “full shell”. In none of them I had the Venting orifice.
I don’t know if this affects my problems, but the “Fitting Formula” chosen by my doctor is: DSL v5a Adult

Thanks for reading this far
Regards

Upward masking could be an issue here.

It’s where the low frequencies over power the high frequencies.

Providing your audiogram would help us help you.

I don’t know how to do it. Please check your personal message.

Guys. I just updated my audiogram. Thanks to Zebras for the guidance.

Can someone please help me with my doubt… believe me, I am desperate.

Since your losses are pretty high across the board, I could definitely see a problem where your bass sounds are masking the higher freq sounds. Maybe drop the bass in the app a bit and see what happens?

It sounds to me (An Oticonian) to be an “Autosense” issue possibly, where it’s switching programs.
I remember when I trialed the Marvels, everytime I ran the kitchen sink, I’d get instant occlusion until I turned the faucet off.

Hello, I have already tested all the programs:

  1. Autosense 5.0 (Automatic)
  2. Calm Situation
  3. Speech in Noise

And I tried to create other programs to my liking using “Calm Situation” as a base.

And everything is the same. My voice disappears just when it rains, there are other external sounds, or a lot of noise. It just keeps playing the background noise without my own voice.
I have used other brands of hearing aids and in noisy situations, my voice did not disappear.

Looking at your audiogram I wonder if you can hear anything above 1000-1500 hertz.
Do you know if sound recover is turned on?
Your noise reduction is not adjusted correctly. Have you discussed this with your fitter?
Thanks and welcome to the forum.
Have you ever thought about CI?

The same thing happens to me!
But I don’t use autosence.

I suspect that autosence is the base of the other programs and something causes my voice to disappear?

I have no idea if I can listen to what you mention, I am inexperienced in these hertz issues.

I know from the feature pdf on the Phonankpro website that my Naida Lumity 30 UP essential version has “SoundRecover2”, but I don’t know if it’s enabled.

I hope to see my audiometrist soon, but I want to be prepared.

I can still listen to music with regular headphones. But the next step would be to consider the CI.

If Autosense is indeed not actively programmed, than it should not have any effect as a base, because if it’s off, than the 1st program would be active, untill you change programs.
But indeed, ask your fitter to double check which program is the default, and if it is speech in noise, that could be the problem.

The default program is autosence or automatic, I have to change it to Music (Calm Situation) every time I turn them on.

OK, so have them disable autosense, and have whichever program is most comfortable for you as the start-up program, or have them create a custom program for you in the Target fitting software.

What worries me is that nowadays, using any program, my voice disappears little by little until I am mute, always in noisy environments. :frowning:

He’s No Response above 1500 Htz as I helped fill his audiogram in for the forum.

I think you have noise reduction turned off. Check it, or try Oticon Xceed 1 UP

The myphonak app allows me to turn the noise reducer up and down, so I guess it is activated.

I made 2 programs from the app, 1 in which the noise is all eliminated and 2 in which the noise is present to the maximum, and in both programs my voice disappears in situations with a lot of noise…

Knowing he has no response above 1500 I wonder how those aids are programmed.

Getting some kind of speech out of that is practically impossible.

Before I got cochlear implants my hearing was no response from about 2500 up. My word understanding was very low, like less than 10% in the booth. I was able to get around 50% with properly fit Phonak aids using Sound Recover to its max.

Thanks

I am sincere, the phonak naida lumity 30 up that I have, my doctor opened them new, connected them to the programmer Phonak Target and it seems that the same program did everything based on my audiometry. They gave them to me without making me any REM.

I currently have to lower volume since the sound is very powerful, that they are heard very strong does not mean that I will understand the words.

I listen very strongly with these Naida, but I do not understand what they tell me, I only understand some certain people who know how to speak and vocalize well and who have a strong tone.

The doctor told me I should use an cochlear implants. But in my country, the surgery and the cochlear implants cost thousands of dollars, so I can’t afford it.

Did you change earmolds with your new aids?

Your hearing loss is very challenging. Any little thing can be detrimental to your hearing.

Did your fitter carry over your old settings into your new aids? This can be helpful with difficult hearing losses.

I could not afford cochlear implants until I was old enough for our countries Medicare to pay for it. Here in the USA cochlear implants are also very expensive. I am bilateral CI and doing very well with them.
