I had been bimodal for about 13 months before I replaced my 5 year-old Phonak Audeo Marvel M90 HA with the Naida Link M. To my surprise, I can hear much better with my old HA. Using the Link alone I get less than half the word recognition as compared to the old HA.
I wonder how others did when they switched. I appreciate your feedback.
I don’t have AB, I’m bimodal N8 & Resound. When I had my new Resound a few months ago I found I needed to be remapped.
I don’t know anything about AB but would a new map help? @joanhawsey might be able to offer some help.
Hi- I think I responded to your similar post on the AB Facebook page. I’m not an expert, just an AB/Link wearer, but It might be better to:
1- wait a few weeks after using the new Ha and CI together, then
2- do your comparisons wearing both your CI and each HA.
I started out with the Link, didn’t need to switch, and I find that without the CI, my HA is of little help. Then when I add the CI, it seems the HA ear is doing the heavy lifting. The combination seems to make each mode better.
If you still feel the Link isn’t the best hearing when using together and having time to get used to them, talk with your AuD.
That shouldn’t be happening. I recommend returning to your audiologist with the Audeo and comparing the fitting programs to identify any differences. Some discrepancies, like parameter settings, may be easy to adjust, while others, like the gain curve, might be more complex to address. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to assist without a full report of your programs, which your audiologist can generate using the fitting software. Wishing you the best of luck, and I hope you can determine the cause of the hearing issues.
I replaced my Phonak Paradise 90 with the Link M. I hear pretty much the same with either model. The trick for me however was getting the Link programmed with the NAL-NL2 algorithm. The Phonak Link default algorithm did not have as much high frequency content which did not work for me.
@listeningout , much depends also from acoustic coupling, because there is a bit different earmold with a BTE hearing aid (Naida Link) compared to RIC earmold (Audeo’s).
You also have not mentioned about diameter of ventilation or did you have REM with new Naida Link.
I’m passing on future CI and going with Phonak Nadia power aids and live caption reading smart glasses. Now will I still catch everything spoken with power aids and smart glasses. No. But if I can catch say 70% of what’s being said around me, I can live with that. With a CI - you never know what you might catch or might not.
