Phonak Lumity Naida 90 UP BTE Review

I see the gains as being the same as that is basically tuned to your hearing loss. The sub programmes adjust settings in different ways, such as dynamic noise reduction, echo block, beamforming etc. Not all my gains are the same, however, but those two are. This may very well reduce some of the gains, but it won’t alter them on the gain screen. That’s my thoughts, anyway.

Hi @PeterH , how do I see which program Autosense is in? (if I go into adjust program I don’t see speech in car etc)

You can use the App to see apparently, there’s a drop down menu for you to see, it was mentioned just recently in another post.

What do you see when you hit adjust program? I mean the program name at the top.

Yesterday 10.4. I got new life… I got Phonak Naida Lumity 90 UP Has. Really! My first thought was that no no… when my audi put aids to my ears. But then I heard her voice, all voices in the room. Something great difference to my earlier Enzos. Okay, she made some more adjustment too. I took those aids for two weeks trial.
This morning I put them on and have terrible tinnitus on my left worse ear. Tried to adjust some program, but nothing helped! What hell! I did drove yesterday 500 km in my car and everything sounded good, navigator guided, etc… But now, terrible noise in the left ear.

Thanks to everyone for your replies and suggestions. @kevels55, you make great contributions to this forum and I really appreciate the advice you provide based on your experience. You are correct about the bluetooth call setting having reset itself. If I ever solve my challenge with hearing speech in the car I will post what works.

Thank you @TomHalf for the kind words, it is always nice to feel appreciated… Personally, I believe there is a strong connection/bond between all HOH, even if we are thousands of miles apart, with different cultures, and languages, we can still relate to each other’s experiences, and ultimately each others problems… If we can, we should try and help our fellow HOH brothers & sisters, whenever possible… Cheers Kev

I agree with your sentiments completely @kevels55. I am trying to help others as well. I have volunteered at my audi office to help any of their clients who need assistance with TV, phone, or other accessory connections.

Give it time, your hearing is tired from your long trip with road noise. Remember can take up to 3 months for hearing to adjust to completely different set of aids.

Thanks all! Today much better… not so noisy than yesterday. New sounds found. :grinning: Something with adjustment is… volume control via Phonak app don´t keep. If I put -1 to right and +1 to left, it is few minutes so, goes back then. Perhaps I don´t do this okay… practice makes perfect? I use iPhone XR and via bluetooth.

Good on you @TomHalf it is good Karma  by helping others, I believe we help ourselves, we hopefully evolve into more rounded individuals, and thus we are better equipped to deal with, our own trials and tribulations, especially when we see those less fortunate than ourselves, this is a great leveler…Once upon a time, seems like a lifetime ago, I was trained up on “Deaf Communications Tactics”… As a Deaf Awareness Tutor… Basically, how to effectively communicate with the “Deaf, Deafened, and HOH” of this world, to say the least, this learning opened my eyes, and altered my way of thinking towards hearing loss. Nothing is insurmountable, if there is a will, there is a way to communicate, we just have to find out, How…Hearing aids, and Assistive Listening Device’s are only part of the story, mime, hand gestures, facial expression, sign language, lip reading skills, and much more besides, these all help to fill in the blanks, and give us some contextual information… You must be brash and slightly bold, especially when dealing with the severe/profound thresholds, they are scanning for clues, their eyes, are effectively, their ears! Cheers Kev

How are you doing with the NAL NL2 fitting formula @PeterH… Any overall improvements, or much the same? Cheers Kev

I’ve switched back for now Kev. I think the louds were just too loud. I’m forever fiddling lol

Yeah Peter, the “Loud’s” can be a bit harsh on the ears with NAL NL2, IMO, especially for some reason with Marvel aids, less so with Paradise, and almost nonexistent in Lumity… I am having problems with my ear hook dampers again on my Naida Lumity’s, I was taking my wife up to Inverness today, on the way up, I had the gradual feeling of going deaf again, I was struggling really badly with her voice, so I dropped my wife off at hospital, she was getting a small procedure done, it would take 4 hours or so, so I headed off to Dingwall, to buy my Salmon Fishing Permit, and buy a new Stiga 4x4 (out front) ride on mower, a big outlay, (my old ride on mower is kaput) but I have a large garden, luckily beforehand, I had researched the Ride On Mower, so there wasn’t much call to listen to the salesman pitch, I know him well, I wasn’t hearing him anyway  told him my requirements, he showed me the options on the PC, I picked the one I researched, transaction must have taken 10 minutes max, out the door, and over £6k lighter than I went in, things are so expensive nowadays! Anyway, back to hospital to pick up the wife, by this time, I am hearing virtually zero, got back to the car, borrowed one of my wife’s loop earrings, to fish out the white dampers on both ear hooks…Success, I could now hear again! The moral of that story, is perhaps, those dampers are a real PITA, and that’s the last time I use them, they keep solidifying with moisture, and blocking the ear hooks up, gradually until I am hearing absolutely nothing… Cheers Kev

@PeterH
I know how you feel! I’m wearing out domes switching back and forth.

Last visit to the hearing care provider who saved my hearing aids with a proper hearing test he said I needed a L power dome in my left ear, and a Medium power dome in the Right ear.

One day that seems just right for me. Next day I find my hearing aids too loud, and every sound is awful. (I live in the flight path of a major airport. Planes fly over every minute. When they are descending on final noise level is 82+ according to my iWatch. My Springer Spaniel is 90+ when he barks, and that’s too often. Inside sound level is ~40dB when quiet; ~55 dB when it’s not so…

Forever fiddling…back and forth with the App for my Phonaks. Audeo Paradise P90’s

the Hearing aid Provider’s hearing test showed that my hearing was a lot worse than the dispensing audition ever showed in a year and a half he tried to set them up.

Peter I’m interested that my new audiogram shows my hearing is worse than yours.

(and…new guy has checked with hearing tests twice since that first hearing test with him.)

I have a strange situation in which I may have mentioned here somewhere before. My L90’s work fine when generally talking to people face to face etc and the Roger On works very well in conference rooms and in restaurants etc. But come using using the aids or Roger On for online calls or Teams meetings through the laptop etc and the some of the folks who have very deep broad accents become very difficult to understand, the tone of the voices are lower through the online connectivity than just speaking to people face to face if that makes sense. It’s as though the lower frequencies either need dropping down or the higher frequencies needs increasing (though I’m not sure there is much adjustment left in that region). I read somewhere here on this forum that Phonak have some quite heavy suppression in the higher frequencies to prevent feedback etc and this can effect the speech clarity and make the aids sound low tone etc. Could anybody give me some guidance of what adjustments I could try out to improve on online experience by improving the speech clarity and make the sounds more like wearing the aids when you are out and about. Many Thanks

Hello @deanvowden, have tried other fitting formulas? I particularly like NAL NL2, but it can be harsh or jarringly loud, for some folks tastes, until you acclimatize, It took me approximately a month, but I persisted with it, that was with Naida Marvel 70’s… With almost the exact same settings in Naida Paradise 90’s, it wasn’t nearly as harsh, with Naida Lumity 90’s there wasn’t any harshness whatsoever, for me at least… Just get your A.uD to swap to NAL NL2 fitting formula, retaining all your original settings, that you have already. If you are fortunate, and NAL NL2 suits you, you might improve overall clarity, I know, I did, but as with all things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and hearing loss is no different in this respect, what I love (sound wise) you might hate… But it’s worth a try! Good luck. Cheers Kev
