Are you using the Manual Music program, or the Automatic one?
I remember from my trial of Phonaks a while back, the auto program still has whistle block, and idk what else enabled.
Beyond that, I can’t help you.
Maybe try Oticon or widex.
Yes it’s down to having the gain and MPO set too closely to each other, so it’s compressed too much.
When I had my Phonak’s, that was the issue.
Yes I thought this might be the case. So what did your audi do? did they just raise the MPO? mine keeps telling me we’re nowhere near the power limit of the device but maybe even though that’s the case, the MPO is set to a certain level at the moment. Did you also play about with things like compression formulas etc? again my audi can’t seem to find a way to do that, at least not in the music program.
I believe I had the same issue. My audiologist solved the problem by swapping out my M (medium) receivers for P (power) receivers.
What receivers do you have?
Jordan
Probably S, regarding audiogram:
Have you ever tested the Starkey Edge AI 24 before you went with Phonak?
Interesting. I probably had the least powerful ones as my hearing loss is still upper end of mild. Maybe that, combined with MPO might do something. Or maybe, the software forces the MPO higher when you put on a different receiver. That’s a very interesting idea. I was going to suggest something similar anyway to him tosee if we could get more low freq back for me since my hearing loss is mostly at the low end.
Which program are you using? did you leave it on autosense or are you staying in the music program for example?
I leave the Sphere’s in AutoSense unless I’m listening to music or playing the guitar. For music and guitar, I switch to my Music program.
Going with the P receivers gave me three things. More headroom and less compression…plus…the P receivers are also larger and provide more occlusion. This resulted in more bass.

Awesome review, thank you!!! Really, that was a great review!!!
You said … "when I switched the aids out of Spheric Speech mode…’
How do you do that?
Iiiinteresting. and do regular ear tips fit on the P’s as well? I do’nt think I’ve ever tried a larger receiver. it’s something maybe that would work on all HA’s. I also wonder did you notice less hiss/machine noise when you used them or was it the same?
Most of the time the aids aren’t in Spheric speech mode, especially if you leave Autosense on which I’m guessing most audiologists do. Autosense picks up when the noise around you is loud enough that Spheric speech kicks in. It has a very unique sounds, background noise will be seriously limited and speech will start to sound a bit robotic, but it will be clear. If you want to force the HA’s into various modes, you can use the phone app. You will notice when you enter Spheric mode because the estimated battery run time will drop by over 50%. I hope that helps but if not let me know I can try and explain it a bit more.
The problem I had was that the Spheric speech in noise program didn’t kick in when I wanted it to (e.g. at the counter in a busy pharmacy trying to hear what the assistant was saying, with two women speaking loudly to their assistants on either side of me). So, I asked the audiologist to lower the threshold for that to happen and, at the same time (because I hate anything denying me the option to override automated systems), I asked for the program to be set as a choosable, manual option. I then used that manual program as a base to further refine the directionality, background noise, etc.) It’s worked a treat ever since.
Depending on how the audiologist set it up, you might be adjusting a ‘copy’ of Spheric speech or the original Spheric speech program that you get when the noise threshold is reached.
If you miss the short time to connect (seems more like 10 seconds max to me), you can use long presses to scroll through to connect. No need to open the app.
On another note, I have my TV Connector on a “smart plug” so I can fully disable it. I also have Roger devices on Manual plus beep, for similar reasons.

You mentioned acrylic vented custom molds. Do you use the same with these Phonak Infinio Spheres? Would you mind posting photos of your aids for confirmation? I was under the impression that, based on all materials available from Phonak, that vented custom molds were not available for this configuration, and that the BTE vented custom mold version is not out yet. Only the RIC version.
I play guitar and I use a rack to play harmonica simultaneously. I also play music frequently with a mandolin player. I found that without additional adjustments, the music program did not work well with the higher pitched sounds of the instruments. They basically sounded like a tremelo. The first time I heard it I thought something was wrong with my guitar (especially on the upper frets of the high string. My audiologist made some adjustment, and now, when in the music program, it all sounds perfect. I don’t know what the adjustment was. I have the Phonak Sphere. … so it can be done. If you need more information, I can ask my audiologist when I see her next week. I expect that there will be others here who might already know though.
Yes, please ask your audiologist what changes he made?
I spoke to my audiologist this morning. She says she greatly reduces the compression in all areas within the music program. She said most of the other settings are already in place except for that.
