[Phonak] How to avoid streaming music volume to adapt to external environment sounds

Hello,

I have an issue with my pair of Phonak Lumity when listening to music (streaming from my smartphone to my hearing aids).

When external environment is calm and silent, it works perfectly. But when environment noise increases (typically when being passenger in car or in bus), music volume decreases to the benefit of environment noises, and I don’t see how to avoid that.
My hearing aids act as if they wanted to keep me aware of external sounds, which I understand, but how to bypass that when I just want to listen to music ?

I tried to shut down microphone (long press on down button), the effect is weird : external environment noise is cut off as expected but music volume remains still very low, the lower when external sound is higher. Only where there is silence in the car or the bus, music volume becomes again very good.

My question : is there a way to avoid streaming music volume to adapt to external sound environment ?
Basically what I’d like here is to be able to use my hearing aids as standards bluetooth headsets.

Many thanks for your comments,

When in the audio stream, you can go to the myPhonak APP and click on the environmental balancer to adjust the sound of your hearing aids more in favour of the audio stream.

I found NoiseBlock (plus all the others) was the culprit and actually have turned NoiseBlock off completely.

The same here. Noise block caused to reduce streaming in loud environment.

Where is noise block in My Phonak?

It needs to be done in Target. That’s the SW your HCP uses uo setup your HAs
It’s not possible via MyPhonak.

I don’t use an adaptive setting and I’m not even sure if such a setting exists on my Oticon Reals but when I stream music, I typically set my hearing aid microphones at a minimum as possible setting, and then adjust the music volume with my iPhone buttons when I need to change the music volume. I typically listen to music via the Pandora app and some songs are not as loud as others.

Many thanks for your answers.

In which programs do I need to disable NoiseBlock ?
Only in “Speech in car”, in streaming programs, in all programs ?

Thank you

@Tryphon
You asked for solving a problem in the BT music streaming… so the answer shall be in that specific program. Or is that not possible?

I tried to disable NoiseBlock in the specific program, but problem was still here.
I tried to disable NoiseBlock in all problem, problem was still here.

I finally found where to configure it in PhonakAPP (control button was obvious but I missed it - I am a bit ashamed here); it helped a lot: environment effect was still lightly here but global music experience was far better.

Being a maniac, I ended shutting the microphone in all streaming programs.
That is the best music experience I can get BUT when listening to music I have no more external sounds.
It is a bit drastic but in my case (severe right hearing loss but left ear is still OK) it is OK when being a passenger.

Many thanks for your feedback

I found it was NoiseBlock, WindBlock and SoundRelax plus all others, had to all be turned off.

Interesting, I think Windblock may be still active, if it is the case I will try to disable it also and provide feedback.

I’ve experienced a similar issue streaming from Roger on in the car. When I am moving however slowly it dampens Roger down such that I turn it up to hear it. When I stop, then it is so loud it hurts and I grab to turn it back down. I really don’t think it’s noise. It’s motion. Stop and go traffic makes it really clear that it isn’t noise, it is motion. I haven’t been able to deduce the source of this. Is it the Roger? Is it in the HAs? There’s almost no noise around me quite often in the car at very slow speed. No wind. The car ventilation doesn’t change. Anyone have a clue on this? I don’t notice the same effect when walking. But I rarely stop and go when I’m walking.

Hello,

Having disabled every *block and all others it is very good now.
I can use the app to balance between external environment and stream audio, it is perfect for me

@WhiteHat : maybe there is a link with “Motion Sensor Hearing” ? I don’t use that but given your description I may be interesting to modify configuration of that parameter because it is related to motion and you are pretty sure behavior is motion related

RogerOn has accelerometer. Maybe it is bug in the firmware? You mean streaming from radio?

It may be also that issue, @WhiteHat.

Something to think about when I go in for ordering my Spheres near the beginning of November. Thanks!

Fingers crossed! I must wait to December for desired housing colour… (probably chestnut, as always).

I’m thinking the green. I’m bald as a cue ball, intentionally. I got a blah color (which I hear are popular) for the paradise, because the audiologist said it matched best. But there wasn’t anything bright, maybe black would have been better. I wasn’t in a mood the challenge the audiologist, being such a novice.

I also though about black, green or even crimson - they’re amazing!
