Got Phonak custom molds today. The audiologist kept saying that they had an acoustic vent and a regular vent. My understanding is that it’s just a “regular” vent that is “acoustically optimized.” My understanding of that is that they plug one’s hearing loss into a formula and come up with the appropriate venting. Can someone who knows comment whether there is a separate “acoustic vent” or if my understanding is correct or if we’re both wrong give a better explanation? Thanks.
Can you see two vents? I can’t believe it. One vent and as you say, optimized for your loss. You hope.

Just one vent. Seems to have a massive backend. Front opening looks like typical hole but backend is a plate with an opening about 3/8 inch by 1/8 inch. Fairly comfortable although goes deeper than I’m used to. Thanks!
Just one vent, optimized based on your audiogram. There should be a code written on the side of each mold which your audiologist puts into the fitting software to optimize your fitting.
Yes, code has been entered.
I had a few (3 pcs.?) earmolds with AOV (receiver M and P skeleton and P cShell plug).
My experience - great, quite ingenious (as you might see from the shape of the vent) way to overcome occlusion, but it comes with a trade-off.
However, for people like me, or perhaps @jim_lewis, I couldn’t get my target gains above 1000 Hz, so I assume it has reduced my potential to achieve full audibility, directivity and noise reduction.
Considering that I have no problem with occlusion, especially when I can place the power domes/earbuds behind the second bend of the ear canal (bony 1/3 medial part), I am waiting for the latest sShell order. I will see what results I get.
Couldn’t it be that he means he is selling a cheaper more or less customized mould with a standard venting and there is the possibility to have a customized Phonak one as you now ordered. As it seems a bit odd that after his studies he wouldn’t know about this theme. Or maybe he’s just trying to yoke a bit.
