Oticon Intent volume buttons not working at times

Typically, I keep the “app” for my Oticon 1s turned off and use the buttons on the aids to control the volume or to change programs. I’ve encountered a couple situations in which the buttons would not work on the HA volume but I could see it change my iPhone 13mini ringer volume.

I subsequently used the app to change volume and that worked fine, but I absolutely hate the app. To call it a pain is being charitable.

I cannot correlate the “failure” or lack of availability of the volume buttons to time/place*/app on-off/wifi/bluetooth or other variables. Twice it’s happened in the same hotel conference room, but I’ve noticed elsewhere as well. it’s probably happened a half-dozen times.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to ensure it does not happen? And what’s the meaning of life, the universe and everything?

I thought I’d posted on this a few days back but apparently I failed to click on something.

Oticon HAs seem to be quite easy to break the volume button or program button if you have one.

I’ve had mine turned off so they don’t work and I use my phone so I don’t put wear and tear on them.

Thanks for the response.

I don’t recall ever having broken volume buttons in nearly 30 years of Oticon products. That’s not to say what’s happening here, but at the moment they continue to seem to work as designed. I may not have been entirely clear: It’s just these occasional events that I think may be software/app/phone/bluetooth related that puzzle the heck out of me.

A triple click of the large button on the right side of your iPhone should bring up the MFi menu and you should be able to adjust volume with the slider. No need for the app to be running (or loaded) to change volume or program, at least with my Oticon Real 1 (and previous) aids and an iPhone 12 mini.

If you wish to avoid the buttons on the aids, there are other options:

I like the Remote Control, becaus I can also “Mute” the aids.

Thanks for the reminder. That seems familiar from the dark recesses of what I was told about the phone and HA. I am still at a loss as to the cause of the occasional failure of the on-aid switches. They work, but only to adjust the phone ringer, not the in-ear volume at those times. Truly wierd.
