Oticon Intent 1 blast noise

Hello,
I’m new to the forum.
I’m currently trying Oticon Intent 1 and Resound Vivia 9 hearing aids.
The Oticon is cheaper than the Resound, so it would have my preference if it fits my needs.

I currently find the Oticon better than the Resound for some usage (Bluetooth streaming, where the sound in the Resound Vivia is not good at all). However, I constantly get a blast noise inside the hearing aids, which I don’t have or almost don’t have with the Resound Vivia.
The audiologist said it is normal and will disappear after a few days, but it is not yet the case.
Can it be linked to a parameter not set (noise reduction?). I have to admit I had slight blast noise in the Resound Vivia when started the trial, but as soon as the audiologist activated the noise reduction feature, it disappeard.

I would really like to have the Oticon Intent as my first choice due to price and Bluetooth streaming quality over the Resound Vivia, however if I can’t find a way to avoid this blast sound, it will be difficult for me to continue with the Oticont Intent.

Is it something “normal” as my audiologist says, or should it be removed with some parameters?

It is present not only in calm environment but also in noisy environment (not yet tested in very noisy environment, but in that case it shouldn’t be an issue).

Thanks for your reply!

I have been wearing the INTENT1 aids for almost a year. I don’t know what you mean about a blast sound. Could it be feedback? Are you using domes or custom ear molds?
I wear custom ear molds and I don’t have any feedback issues. And the only noise i get any of is if I go ftom my default program to the TV adapter.

Thanks for your reply.
I’m not sure of the exact wording (English is not my native language).
Maybe to precise I would say it is a sort of “white noise” like an “amplifier noise”, the kind of noise you would have when using an old amplifier, if you push it at max amplification without any input signal.

I’m using domes (the bass dome, double vent from Oticon)

I would say it is possibly feedback. I would say you need to explain the issues to your audiologist.

Yeah I’m not sure exactly what your describing, “blast noise” could be “sudden impulse” noise which can be adjusted in the software, do you use the same type of domes with the Vivia? as this doesn’t sound like feedback in the normal sense, squealing or whistling type sounds is normally what’s described.

I’d suggest it’s a noise floor issue.

Very possibly, but could also be feedback.

I wear Starkey Edge AI.
I hear the blast/white noise on my right ear whenever I’m in a noise environment.
I wear moulds.
If I push my left mould in tight the nose starts in the left.
If I shift the mould by twitching my ear slightly are tugging on it the nose stops momentarily.
The left mould does not fit as tight as the right.
I haven’t had time to address it with my audiologist.
I’m going on a trip this week coming.
When I get back I’m going to address it.

Forgot.
Sometimes it’s the loudest nose in a room.

If it is feedback or noise floor issue, is it something easy to fix with parameters?
My audiologist said it is normal and will disappear with time (my brain should filter it), but I find it too loud to be able to forget it, and feel that I’m tired after several hours earring this noise.

Feedback, yes, noise floor; not so immediately, but you might slowly get used to it.

The aids need adjusting if you have feedback problems. If it’s a noise floor issue, it is somewhat mitigated by using the lowest power receivers: some people find this beneficial.

I think Oticon has an issue with static noise for those who still have good low frequency hearing. I trialed the Real1 over a year ago and I heard it as well.

If you search on this forum you should find more people mentioning this. IMHO there is no solution. Back then, the HA dispenser suggested I switch to another brand.

I’ve never experienced that issue with the Intents, but I keep all the "More Sound Intelligence"features disabled so as not to introduce all the digital processing, so I’d suggest asking your provider to create a general program with all extra features disabled just to see if it helps.
As our resident expert @Um_bongo suggested, a low power receiver may also help.

I think it’s only noticeable if your low frequency hearing is still near the 20 dB range.

I found it super annoying and I doubt I would have ever gotten used to it.

See this thread:

I hope we will find a solution with the audiologist, as I like these hearing aids for several other reasons. I confirm I have a good earring in the low frequencies, and if it is link to this, I doubt I will ever be able to support this permanent noise.

I have Intent 2 and great low frequency response that ski slopes down to the high frequencies. I noticed odd noises with sounds that are quite strong in mid to high frequencies. I’ve narrowed it down to the boosted 2kHz to 6kHz causing what sounds like distortion and sound artifacts. There are other factors such as AI noise detection, etc. that also seem to exaggerate the issue. I’m still trying to work out which settings work the best. NAL-NL2 seems to help a bit. It’s a pain but a lot of the good outweighs the bad things like this. I need to boost mid to highs as I work in an office where peeps talk quietly, etc. Anyone have any tips on how we can fix these using the Genie software?

Could it be static, possibly from Bluetooth interference? I get an occasional loud static blast out of one of my hearing aids (Oticon More 1), but not constant, as OP described.
