Nucleus Kanso 3

This link was released on a Aussie website yesterday. It gives you more information on the K3. No info on the release date that I could find.

Thanks for the info.

The K3 appears to be on the same technology as the N8, does that sound correct?

The battery life of the K2 has been much more than the 18 hours they mentioned. Hopefully the K3 will be as durable and reliable as the K2 has been.

My upgrade is coming in early 2026. The K3 will probably be my new processors.

There will be more - new internal devices (probably CI1032, CI1022 and CI1012) with new coding strategies like FMS and SPACE:

“https://onderzoekmetmensen.nl/en/node/53745/pdf#:~:text=The%20CI1032%20implant%20is%20the%20implanted%20component,to%20provide%20an%20auditory%20perception%20to%20patients.”

IIRC, FMS will require new internal device because of necessity to have multiple sources of current. I have no idea what about SPACE.

For what I see Nucleus Kanso 3 is simply an off-the-ear equivalent of Nucleus 8.

However, based of the website below, there will be also Kanso 3 Nexa sound processor, probably with newer Phoenix System technology:

@studio.prawns_0q I have to wonder if I would be able to get a K3? I currently have N8, which I got in January 2022. The 3 years is up required by MBP. Just curious.

Yes, you will be able to get a K3 if your plan lets you.

The K3 Bluetooth is LE Audio ready as is the N8.
The few people I know that have the N8 use iPhones so no news about LE Audio with the N8 processors.

I am looking forward to getting hands free phone again like the Phonak aids. This LE Audio ready status might turn out to be a bust???

Don’t see article because of paywall. Does it mention about new technology, like coding strategy?

What’s your opinion about the effectiveness of the directionality of Kanso 2 compared to N7?

I feel like they are the same. The hearing experience comparing the K2 and N7 are almost identical. The K2 has more wind noise than the N7 but the N7 gets wet easily from sweat where as the K2 doesn’t. K2 battery life has been superior. For me the N7 rechargeable battery will need to be replaced every 1.5 years. Coils every 3 years. The K2’s have proven to be very reliable.

“Built around the company’s new Nexos chip, the system features upgradeable firmware which enables added features over time. It also includes built-in memory, allowing users who lose or damage external sound processors to transfer their personalised settings to replacement devices.” The main thing about the new implant the article talks about as well as a story from a recipient of the Nexa implant. He talks about how he likes it.

This all sounds good. Thanks for the info.

Do you know if this person was previously implanted with an older implant? That would be a great comparison.

Just curious, do you notice much difference in sound between the two because of where the mic is?

Sounds like it is their first implant and they had hearing aids before. "Melbourne accountant Stephen Dyton, one of the first to trial the new product, describes the improvement as “not just chalk and cheese, it’s chalk and ostrich”. It’s unbelievably different,” Mr Dyton told The Australian. “I kept waiting for it to sound normal to me, but then I realised that my old normal was rubbish … I’m hearing sounds I’ve honestly never heard before in my life, such as the swishing of leaves in a tree.”

Mr Dyton, who was diagnosed with hearing loss at age six, says the technology has transformed his professional life. “I have many Teams and Zoom calls … I can hear everyone way better than ever before."

That info is surely in inclusion criteria in the my first link above.

@studio.prawns_0q, thanks. It seems that article is not only about Kanso 3, but also about new Phoenix system and CI1032 and new FMS and SPACE coding strategy.

Unfortunately, we probably won’t be able to get benefits from it  because of older internal devices.

This is why I asked about their first or an upgrade from an old implant.
This example could well be my words. My implants were as they described, wonderful. A world of new sounds.

Just saying.

The N7 and K2 sound the same.
I explained this better a few posts back.

For the Nexa implant, there is also this article which isn’t behind a paywall. World first cochlear implant platform features memory chip to improve outcomes - Hearing Practitioner Australia
