Regarding your brother-in-law, I have little knowledge about the locations of ICUs in Idaho, but if I recall correctly, he had a rare complication from a very specialized drug that originally prolonged his life with cancer.
If so, I think there must have been a prior transfer of the patient to a more specialized ICU with more experience with that complication than a “generic” ICU.
