Yes that is the interesting thing even the one struggle wind noise is getting better/faster. I am loving them
How does it compare against Oticon Intent and Phonak Sphere?
it is to early to say which is better. Take everything with a grain of salt.
I was wearing the Intent and for a short tie thought I did better with Intent but as I started focusing on what I was hearing I found even though I heard more of the surrounding environment was understanding easier with the Edge AI. And when playing with the Edge adjustments could even make it less environmental sounds. As for the Sphere I haven’t tried it as I am not prone to having to wait a week to get a RIC sent. And personally do not like the shape enlarged for the battery but understand this is my personal opinion! Also as the AI has a separate chip there is time delays though minor still there. Hope that helps
Starkey already had the product named Livio Edge AI in 2020. Also the most prominent feature of their recent aids was called Edge mode. Can’t their marketing team come up with more distinctive names? Come on.
@AbramBaileyAuD Looking forward to Hearing Tracker’s test of these. Also would really love it if somebody could do a somewhat technical comparison with the Sphere. Is their all in one solution chip at all comparable to Phonak’s dual chip approach?
I’m wearing them.
They need adjustment.
In general they work.
They seem to perform in noise.
Went to breakfast yesterday with five people. Restaurant was not noisy with people, but the way it’s set up the exhaust hoods are in the middle of the restaurant.
They are quite large and noisy.
I used edge AI noise reduction. It was able to substantially lower the exhaust sound.
I could talk to everyone at the table.
I have warble issues.
I have to have that fixed.
I also have occlusion issues.
Like I said before the aids in personal mode are very loud and boomy. Throw in my distortion and it can be very annoying.
I want to add that for me at least when I’m in edge AI mode there is a very serious warble.
can you be more specific? what does warble mean?
Like talking in a fan.
The Nexia’s I tried also had the warble.
That audiologist said that some people just seen to be more sensitive to it. Ok.
Every hearing aid I’ve ever tried had the warble.
You mean internal circuit noise of hearing aids or internal noise of their mics?
It’s caused by the feed back manager being overly aggressive.
I have to have it turned off to stop the warble.
She wanted me to try the aids with it on.
My present aids have the feed back manager off.
At least the good news is that Starkey has the disposable battery version available right now. Also Starkey’s UP receiver goes up to 110db unlike 105db max of Oticon and Phonak receivers.
Sorry, you put the link but I can’t find a specification that goes up to 110 db ??? Where is that information?
By the way, Phonak has a Power receiver that goes up to 105 dB, that means they use a Power dome or silicone mold. Phonak also has a UP receiver, which goes up to 110db I think. I forgot, but it is a pre-made receiver, I think cshel.
Hopefully this link will work that shows that the Starkey rechargeable has a fitting range up to 110dB for mid to upper frequencies. Products: Edge AI mRIC R | StarkeyPro
You have to click on Specs and Fitting to see it.
Phonak’s UP just goes to 105dB in the latest info I could find.
You have to click on Specs & Fitting tab, then select Custom Cased and you will see the fitting range.
It doesn’t appear that the new Edge AI processor is being included in a NW (Signature) CIC. Unlike the Genesis AI which was. Does anyone know if new Edge AI CIC is less bulky than the Genesis wireless version?
Hey Yahizib, thanks for that. I’m in the U.K. and Edge AI is only just about to be released here - so info has been very sketchy, but knowing the size of them scratches an itch for me and puts it to bed! I positively did not like the bulky size of the Genesis AI CIC so that sorts that issue out for me.
I’m still in my Signature trial period and up to now never actually had my Signature CIC button configured for edge mode+ selection — just short press for volumes up and long for down - so I’ve no idea if it’ll be any benefit for my speech understanding or not.
I just wasn’t that impressed with Edge mode during my Genesis trial!
But now I’m thinking of getting my audio to enable the buttons for edge mode selection to see if these Signatures work any better in edge mode than the bigger Genesis CIC’s.
I’ve got more used to the Starkey sharper sound quality now — so wondering if I may notice an improvement — going that route means relying on the T2 mobile app to swipe volumes up/down if I need to, but I need to know what Edge mode with these smaller CIC’s is capable of.
I’ve found it rare to want to lower volumes - so It’s a shame imo, that the button cannot be configured for a long press to enable edge mode and a short press to increase volume - and be able to lower volume back down when required via T2. That to me would be the best of both worlds.
As it stands, I’ll have to experiment to see if the ease of selecting Edge mode via the button has more benefit for me than the ease of increasing volume via a simple button press when I need to.
Hi mate. I am in the UK too.
I have edge mode button to use edge mode and edge mode has been beneficial to me. I have rarely used it but there have been certain situations where I needed the extra clarity and volume in distance to other person like in a meeting.
Like you, I have no reason to increase volume.
But I do have other programs which are music, car and restaurant which I sometimes use by holding the button to toggle through these.
The music program is actually really good
My short push button enables edge more and long hold changes programs for me.
I self-program my aid which gives me more freedom to ensure I am gaining the best hearing and feature-wise to my advantage
How come Dr. Cliff did not shoot a new video on Starkey Edge AI? Who else can compare Phonak Sphere and Edge AI?
