Need help adjusting Easy Line Remote app to reduce fan noise on KS10

I currently have the KS10 picked up on 30th Sept. I notice that while I love them I’m having a issue finding the correct setting/tweak in the easy line app for helping ease fan noises. I’ve tried to up the noise management to max which does help somewhat it makes my hearing aids seem like they are dimming in out a a bit tweaking the microphone in and out a little like it’s trying to determine what to focus on. Does anyone have any guidance it’s not a huge issue but my husband got a little short because the fan noise was overriding voice conversations making it difficult to hear him. I do not call it loud but that’s what it feels like my aids are focussing on the most. I’m not a newbie to hearing aids and what they do I’m just more used to total automatic settings and trying to make some custom programs for the biggest problems so I’m still learning the Easy line app and the KS10s too

With ReSound and Jabra aids I’d have the fitter adjust the Expansion setting to reduce those soft environmental noises like that fan, refrigerator running, etc.

Perhaps someone with knowledge of Phonak fitting will chime in.

Correct!

Are you sure that’s not just a matter of getting used to, and “tuning out”, sounds you are not accustomed to hearing? E.g., in the home where I grew up we had an enormously loud wind-up clock, but I heard it only when we came back from a vacation of a week or two.

I think herein lies a problem with hearing aids having sophisticated apps and multiple programs. It gives the illusion that there’s a solution for everything we don’t like. As Z300M mentions, much of this stuff one can just get used to. I get why hearing aid fitters don’t want to add multiple programs and try to tune things perfectly initially. One needs time to see what one can adjust to and learn what things are truly giving one problems. Once those learned, time to visit the fitter again for adjustments. That’s my opinion anyway. Many will disagree I’m sure.

This is very true. You get used to not hearing things. When you start getting exposed to sounds you haven’t heard in a long time, it can be disturbing. Like most stimuli, over time your body adjusts. ReSound builds that into its fitting options: Comfort/First time User/Experienced Non-Linear

Give it some time. Your brain will adjust over a couple of weeks and you probably won’t even notice the fan then. It can be really jarring when you first get HAs and everything will sound very abrasive and too loud. That will go away with some time, we promise.

Thank you everyone for the replies, usually I adapt pretty fast to newer or more noticable noises with each different brand of hearing aids. I found the root cause of why the fan noise was so jarring, when I had the easy line app open would fluctuate between automatic and tv which ment when it switched back to automatic the difference from tv was so noticable I’d jump due to it going from semi quiet background to louder than suddenly unexpected fan noise.

While it still dims in and out trying to pick certain noises I found just deleting the tv setting completely got rid of the main issue I was having concerning the fan noise. it isn’t as prevalent unless I stream but with streaming it’s something I can expect because I choose when I stop I expect there will be a difference in sound once I’m done vs that sudden what the heck moment with previous settings. The fan noise is something I’m quite used to but I couldn’t understand at the time why it would go from soft to really loud I wish there was a way to record the issue I was trying to describe…still love the hearing aids and I’m glad it was a simple fix. I now have 3 main settings Quiet, resteraunt and automatic my next adjustment is on 13th oct so I will bring up the tv vs automatic difference and the issue it was causing with my HIS.

I had my first adjustment fitting appointment yesterday and spoke at length with my fitter about the issue I mentioned here on the forums. She said that is unusual as the best way I could explain it was between tv and automatic it was flicking between both and then bouncing between separate programs within the automatic setting trying 3/4 different settings for a singular sound (fan noise) I could literally count the changes between each program Which explains the wierd changes I noticed with dimming/sudden increase fluctuating volume/mic direction. My fitter called a helpline to seek advice on what would be the best way to combat that problem, they spoke to me and my fitter at the same time and advised to remove the tv setting completely for me as it has occured to others using the KS10 before and is a known thing that comes up from time to time I wouldn’t call it a problem but they explained the tv setting can be finicky like that. The helpline explained as it tries to determine where the voices are i.e tv while picking up a particular sound and and goes into a cycle of programs for certain noises/voices/sounds and because I had voices in noise from a tv while having a fan running it couldn’t pick which program to choose best as it’s programed in specific ways for each program.

It was recommended to set up a music setting just for tv listening that once I turn on it stays on until I choose to switch back to the automatic program from either the Easy line app or from my push button settings. They said this should stop the hearing aids trying to repeatedly change between programs while I watch TV. I tried this last night and it fixed the above problem perfectly no jumpy oh gosh super loud fan noise out of the blue then quiet tv.

My gain settings i assume that is what she was referring to has been set up to increase gradually over the next two weeks usually my fitter would go with 30 days gradual increase but she said I seem to be capable and understanding of what I’m experiencing and expecting have worn hearing aids most of my life she went with a two week number, she toyed with just doing the change completely yesterday but said rather than overload me in one full swoop she would rather err on the side of caution, I completely respect her decision. I have yet to try them in restaurant and larger group settings due to work schedules and usual game nights being cancelled once I do I will make notes of any changes needed for those. One to one voices are mostly clear unless someone is mumbling I was able to hear a friend’s daughter calling out to me from behind me last night and did a ooo I heard that spun round and did a happy wave. I’ll update more with other things I notice but my fitter said I can always call for tweaks or stop in.

Fans in the microwave over the gas range, bathroom ceiling fans, and running water cause my KS 10s to greatly reduce volume. I got used to it and it doesn’t bother me. Music mode is OK but I don’t use it.
They are great hearing aids for me.

I love mine as well, it didn’t happen with microwave fan, fridge or cooker hood fans just the bedroom one and mostly because I run tv in background for my husband. With me I usually just switch it off when he’s working and stream music instead  I have two music settings the original one and the newer tv music setting…I should be able to see how the hearing aids work in large crowds Saturday I have a concert to attend not something I usually venture out to. I’m still deciding on whether to full on use low volume on the hearing aids or to just use earplugs for the night the few I have attended in the past I used earplugs but id like to see how these perform in that setting as well.
