My Phonak Sphere Infinio I90 vs Lumity L90 Shootout

I will add more detailed images of the titanium otoplasties here. I am currently in the hospital.

No rush, @Eduard. Take care and stay strong! I hope that face masks will not be a problem for understanding. They are a bit like undesirable high-frequency sound filters.

Wish you a speedy recovery and good health Eduard! It’s kind of you to respond while there.

The owner of the site published a Phonak program for masks here.

2 plus years ago I had a procedure and stayed overnight. The setup of my Paradise P90R’s was awful. I couldn’t hear the specialist at all as he talked to me before the procedure. I’m glad I had an escort.

My rechargeable ha batteries didn’t last the day either. (edit: I got even. I have sleep apnea. I was constantly monitored while in the recovery ward. Somehow, I held my breath and the alarm went off. Two nurses came on the run because they thought I was … well, you know.

Fast forward to Thursday and a day-long visit to the hospital. The new setup helped so much. And the Mask program helped somewhat.
If you use myPhonak it boosted mid frequencies and high frequencies similar and adjust the program using the CLARITY tab it’s similar to the mask program.

Looks very solid and aesthetic. I wonder when the cShell manufacturer prefers to make them shorter and when they prefer to make them longer, as in the link below:

Can anyone speak to the titanium molds and how they help with reducing ear wax production compared to standard acrylic molds?

They don’t reduce wax as such, same as acrylic or silicone?

Thanks, tenkan! That’s too bad. I’ve heard from other users that they are miracle workers at reducing ear wax, and wanted to ask.

Titanium earmolds could better conduct heat from near the eardrum to the outside, which may help, at least in theory. However, I think that in practice, this effect on wax production is rather negligible.

Thanks @tenkan to correct me I have to edit the first part of my post.
Edit: Only for those who have an excessive production of earwax because of the acrylic solution, mostly in cause of irritation or allergy, it could be but not guaranteed a solution to try the titan made earplugs.

Acrylic is a plastic that has a relatively smooth surface. It can though irritate the skin of the ear. Increased production of earwax as a protective response is therefore possible.

Titanium, on the other hand, is a biocompatible and hypoallergenic material that is less likely to cause skin irritation. It is used in medical implants for instance because of this innert behaviour.

Hi there, allergic reactions and wax hmmm, I don’t think this was the concept of the question, I haven’t seen anything that state’s titanium molds or otherwise should be used to reduce wax production?

You are right about that @tenkan. The titanium will not cause less production of earwax. Thanks for correcting me. I will edit my reaction.

I just went to the movies last night with my spheres. I’m using them with ActiveVent and it never went into sphere mode and i heard quite well… It was in the ā€œSpeech in Noiseā€ through autosense the whole time. These things are great. Been a great first Hearing Aid for me and thank you for all your posts!

Thanks for sharing this. A few weeks ago I shared almost the identical experience at a movie theatre and I think a few people on this forum thought I was full of BS when I said I could hear the movie without being in Sphere mode.

I think the reason we could both hear so well is that a movie theatre is a bit of a unique sound environment. First of all…the sound from the movie is LOUD…which helps deaf people hear better. Second point is that most movies have either people speaking or action with music and/or loud sound effects. Rarely do you have people speaking and the loud music/sound effects at the same time. Basically means the speech part of the movie is usually quite clear with no background noise. Third thing is that the Dolby Digital systems in the movie theatre are pumping out very high fidelity sound and Dolby systems generally deliver the speech part of the movie from a separate centre speaker that is above or behind the movie screen. In other words, it helps the hearing aids when speech only comes from one direction and that direction is where you are looking.

And yes…the Sphere hearing aids are amazing when setup properly.

Thanks for this input. Yesterday I ordered my Cross with the Infinio70-R HA (not sure if it’s the same model or not) with a Cross for my right and the HA for my left. I left room to move up if this was not good for me, and the use. I have been reading and watching the comparison’s as I know that the older PhoneAK I have needed upgrading - With it being a crossover, I knew I couldn’t deal with just Costco, which is a shame, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that this works for what is needed at this point. I have NO speech recognition in my right ear… out of 50 words given, I got 50 wrong, or I didn’t hear them at all. And because it’s been 40 years since I went deaf in the ear, the ENT was not 100% sure a CI would even work. I am not going to chance it to see if it will work. I just want to be able to drive, and hear my spouse talking to me. We don’t go to movies, but we do visit restaurants, and maybe this will help there! I won’t be getting them fitted until May, but I am looking forward to the upgrade.

My experience so far with the Spheric Speech in Loud Noise program has been nothing short of amazing. It really does feel like all the noise drops down to a minimum while speech really gets enhanced in many ways. To better explain what I mean: I selected the Spheric program while in church a couple weeks ago, just to try, and it felt like the priest was talking straight to me from a close distance, rather then the usually annoying echo that makes understanding so much harder. I wish I could explain better. The one thing that needs getting used to is how your own voice may sound while in Spheric speech: I feel that sometimes the volume goes randomly up and down, but the way I can now understand who is talking to me in a noisy environment makes that a very small issue to deal with.

Just got back from attending my first stand up live comedy show using my Sphere hearing aids and they passed with flying colours. As you can see from the photo below, we were seated at the very back of the theatre here in downtown Toronto. I had already tested the Sphere’s out at a Movie theatre and they did really well. I just wasn’t sure how well they would do in a live theatre type of scenario with a single person talking on stage with a microphone. The Sphere’s did great and I would say that I was able to hear 95% of the comedian’s routine with zero issues and without having to fiddle around with the app or change programs. I just let AutoSense do its thing while I enjoyed the show. The only times that I missed what the comedian was saying usually occurred when he was trying to imitate a foreign accent, etc. Other than that…they were superb.

Just thought I would share as these are the types of events that us hearing impaired people typically avoided in the past. Not any more! Such a pleasure to laugh along with the audience cause I could now really hear and understand the jokes. Lots of fun tonight!
