My Nexia Resound hearing aids pair with my phone even when in the charging station!

I HATE IT! Any way to make it so the HAs do NOT pair when docked???

Are you sure? Which Jabras? Because my wife has the identical Jabra aids (the Pro 20s) to my Nexias, and they have the same behavior–they still connect when in the charging station!

Also, turning off BT on the phone, which is non-starter as a long term answer, doesn’t work in any case. I can have my HAs in the case, UPSTAIRS, 60ft away through walls and floors, and have another set of headphones ACTIVELY attached and working on my phone, and my HAs will eventually connect, taking over audio, and yes, ruining my current situation. No other BT device I have does this. I have had to UNPAIR my HAs a few times, in the moment, just to get things working the way I need them to.

As a result of this question, I checked my iPhone after putting both of my Jabra Enhanced Pro 20 hearing aids in the charger. The Jabras are the same device as the Resound Nexia hearing aids, both are manufactured by GN. When I selected the, “Status” function on the app, it indicated that the hearing aids we’re charging by indicating green and the battery status green dots were moving towards the hesring aids. However, when I selected the, “Home”, mode, it indicated that the hearing aids were charging. I was under the impression that they automatically turn off when in the charger. Of course when removed, and if placed in my ears immediately, they sound the turning on chimes.

The instructions for the premium charger says, “That when in the charger the light on the hearing aid will blink. When they are fully charged, the status lights on the hearing aid will be illuminated steady”.

I am assuming that the hearing aids are turned off while in the charging case because they indicate charging while in the case, and if placed in my ears immediately, I hear the startup chimes. I hate making an assumption. This is because when making an assumption, you are making an ASS out of U and ME.

@Flyboybob, All I know is that my PHONE tells me that I am connected to my hearing aids, when those hearing aids are upstairs, in the charger, charging…

And yes, the Pro 20s are essentially identical to what I have. My wife has the Pro 20s, and her HAs have the same behavior as mine. She doesn’t wear hers as much (although arguably, she needs them more!) so it doesn’t bother her as routinely as me.

@Mr_C, Turning off the hearing aids kinda defeats the purpose, don’t you think? OF COURSE turning them off will make them not connect to my phone–whether they are in the charger or not! Contacting Resound is an option–I guess I was hoping to find a resolution with a little less effort…

Lastly, yes I enabled LE Audio almost right away (when I found the setting in the app), as it seemed like an obvious good thing to do. My phone is brand new (Galaxy S24+) and supports it. I am not understanding why that would matter?

I have exactly the same problem. HAs are Philips 9050 (Costco) and my phone is a Samsung S23 Ultra. I try to answer the phone when my HAs are in the charger and it puts the call through to the HAs so I cannot hear anything. Extremely frustrating. Cannot see any option in the Philips Hearlink app to avoid this. I have to go into the settings on the phone and change the media output from HAs to phone or use the speaker. Maybe the LE Audio has preference?

My INTENT1 aids show chargimg by the app when they are own the charger.

Oh my gosh! Is this why my phone was almost dead this morning, even though it was 100% last night? I just got my Jabra’s yesterday

I also have the Jabra Enhanced Pro 20s. If you read the directions they tell you to switch off each hearing aid before placing them in the charger. I don’t know why, because as soon as you put them in the charger they turn back on while charging, and they connect to the phone. It makes absolutely no sense. I assume that you should also turn off the Bluetooth on the phone. Although the instructions don’t mention that. But, it doesn’t appear to make any difference.

Having to turn off a rechargeable device before putting it in the charger might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I find it so ludicrous that I went and downloaded the User’s Guide (for Resound Nexia) too. You are NOT wrong, but I went a little deeper, and here is what I found:

Sure enough, it does say: “When you remove your hearing aids, turn them off.” But that is just generic advice, and does not really have anything to do with recharging.

It also says: “Your hearing aids will automatically go into sleep mode when you place them in the turned-on charger, and they will automatically reactivate when you remove them from the turned-on charger”. Those with the premium (battery-based) charger, always have a “turned-on charger”. This is the behavior I expect, but it is NOT the behavior I am seeing…

And finally in the troubleshooting section, it says: “Always turn off your hearing aids when you are not using them, or place them in the charger for charging.”

Although potentially confusing, I think this is most clearly read as When not in use, EITHER turn them off OR put them in the charger

They also talk about their “Smart Start” feature, which “delays the time before your hearing aid turns on after you remove the hearing aid from the charger. With this function activated, you will hear a beep for each second of the delay period (either 5 or 10 seconds).” I get those 10 beeps every time I remove my HAs from the charger (I do not turn them off).

In short, I am getting the expected “reactivation” behavior when they come out of sleep mode, but I am not getting the expected “sleep mode” behavior when they are in the charger.

But their not really “on” tho are they? it’s just BLE for the App, as mentioned by others it’s a “sleep” mode, there’s no way they should be “live” and running in the background, especially with microphone on and able to take Bluetooth phone calls! they would squeal all night for those with severe or profound losses, so your 100% sure you can hear the microphone on, what about can you actually hear streaming through the receiver music or calls while in the charger?
If you get the start up chime when removing then they were off, unless they are rebooting when removing, really weird stuff happening with rechargeable models.

It’s a little easier than that. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I simply look at the bluetooth connections on my phone.

When I take the HAs out of the charger, I can see on my phone that it connects to the HAs. When I put them back in the charger, they disconnect. This works perfectly.

When I am not wearing HAs, I put them in the charger. During those times, I might use other headphones, like my Shokz OpenRun Pros. Usually this for a video call, or listening to an audio book, etc.

And here is where it gets weird. I can be ACTIVELY listening to something, and suddenly (seeming randomly), the audio cuts out completely. I check the bluetooth on my phone, and my headphones are DISCONNECTED, and my HAs are CONNECTED, even though they are upstairs, IN THE CHARGER.

Honestly, I could care less if the HAs are actually ON, or putting out audible sounds. I care that they are peremptorily connecting to BT on my phone, while in the charger, supposedly in “sleep mode”, without ANY interaction or permission on my part. The resound app is NOT running.

I can manually DISCONNECT my phone BT from the HAs , reconnect my Shokz to return to my desired state–for a bit. But then, usually within a few minutes, it will happen AGAIN. The only solution I’ve found? FORCIBLY UNPAIR the HAs from my phone completely. Obviously, this is just a short term solution, since as a rule, I want the HAs paired to my phone.

Although it doesn’t necessarily happen every time, it has happened SEVERAL times. Indeed, the randomness is perhaps the most frustrating thing. I think the problem has gone away, and then BAM! It comes back.

Also, this happens whether I have BLE enabled or not.

Thanks for your time to dig deeper into the Manual. It also sounded nuts to me also, I will skip turning them off before charging them. I have the premium charger which has its own internal battery.
