Medel rental program

I just had a cochlear implant installed on Oct. 8 and I am currently waiting 30 days to activate.

I select the medel rondo 3, because I wear glasses which would interfere with the over the ear model.

My only concern is it runs on a rechargeable battery and according to many online, last 16 to 20 hours.

I know there is a corded battery charger that you can use but I’m still worried about situations where I will not be able to charge the unit.

Medel does offer the option to buy a second processor, but it’s extremely expensive.

They also have a 6 month rental program you can use to get a backup. When I asked if I could rent a second unit for the year. They replied that it was only available for 6 month and I would have to speak to Vice President to get an extension.

I wrote her twice explaining my anxiety about running out of power. She said that health Canada wont let them rent for more than 6 months . Is this accurate or are they blowing me off? Why are hearing aid companies allowed to lease on a yearly bases?

Pending on your mapping the battery can last longer or shorter. Once your implant is activated you will know more about it’s battery life.
@Dani wore a Rondo for a while. I don’t remember which one it was. He ended of trading for the Sonnet for better battery life.

Rick is right.
I have tried to wear MedEL Rondo 3 (the only Rondo using rechargeables). The rechargeable is not exchangeable and lasted during my tests only 14 hours. Way too short for me.

But:
I tried the Rondo shortly after surgery and ended up using Sonnet 2 with 3 exchangeable rechargeables. These three lasted at most 8 hours each (four years ago). This year I ordered another three pieces of rechargeables. The new ones now last 11 hours each. My skin now is thinner than four years ago so the power consumption has been reduced. The same would happen to a new test with a Rondo.

I wear the glasses and I have no problem with my Nucleus 6 and 8 sound processors. YMMV, maybe you have smaller auricle.

@Tony3 I wear glasses all daylight hours everyday. Albeit thin titanium frames on my glasses. I’ve always worn titanium frames for 40+ years. I’ve had my CI for 5.5 years now and I’ve never had a problem with my N8 and my glasses frames.
