Jabra Enhance Pro 30 vs. Resound Vivia 9

I will have my Costco hearing aid specialist make sure that she has set the software to, “Intelligent focus”. Hopefully that will make a noticeable difference in the, “Hear in Noise”, selection in the app. However I will lose the manual ability to adjust the beam focus. However, the chip with the DNN AI should determine where the speech is coming from automatically. Is my understanding of this correct? My appointment is not until July 20th.

I was fitted with the Jabra 30 this morning, I have been using the Jabra 20.
There is quite a difference between the 20 and 30 … a great improvement In over all sound and clarity … just walking through Costco I could understand people talking in the next isle .

Yep, just loved them too lol.

It’s all explained in that Resound White Paper…

It’s not all explained in the white paper. That document says that the DNN chip is the default setting for the app, “Hear in Noise” function. Jabra/Resound technical department tells me that anytime you use the, “Hear in Noise”, app function the DNN chip is operable. I don’t know the truth. However, I have an appointment on July 20th 2025 with my Costco hearing aid specialist and I will find out how she set up the hearing aids in the setting software. And, I will have her make sure she selects the, “Intelligent noise”, setting. I’m willing to give up the selectable voice focus for the AI chip.

I am going to set up two Hear in Noise, one with DNN and one without … the best of both worlds
Change the name of one to DNN in Noise

Of course, if you do that, then we only will have your opinion of which works better. But, that’s better than nothing.

That is true.
But for me it is not about which is better, no doubt which is better … it is about having two different levels of noise reduction.
One for a moderately noise restaurant early in the dinner crowd and another for when the busy dinner crowd come in … To conserve battery life.

Well it will be interesting to know what you think when you have done that anyway. There is another Resound White Paper published recently which describes some testing they did to compare how individuals found Intelligent Focus compared with the non-DNN mode. It works well for some people and gives less improvement in speech intelligibility for others. Which is what one would expect.

I am visiting family and we went to some loud, noisy restaurants and dnn definitely works well for hearing speech from others at our table. But i find my own voice sounds very loud and artificial. Everyone elses voice sounds fine. I havent experienced that since first wearing aids. Anyone have a similar experience?

What is the name of this white paper? Also, since it’s newer than the other one, is the paper color whiter? :joy:

I have been wearing hearing aids since December 2024 and I never had that experience that you described. I think that I’m beginning to think that most sounds now seem normal. I did notice a large difference in the sound quality between the Jabra Enhanced Pro 20 and 30 models. The 20s always sounded shrill while the 30s sound much more natural. This difference is a good example of how difficult it is to describe the sound quality to your hearing aid practitioner.

I didn’t have the 20s before (ie Nexia) but did have the Omnias which I believe were Costco EP10 and very similar to Nexia but without LE Audio. But I agree that the Vivias sound “nicer” than the Omnias did. Less digital.

Regarding the second white paper I mentioned, it was published at the same time, at the Resound launch. You can get all this stuff if you want by following the link in the Resound webpage

But you really can see the truth that the DNN chip can’t possibly do anything if Intelligent Focus isn’t selected in the fitting software if you read the paper I mentioned at the outset properly. Of course it doesn’t say “if the fitter turns Intelligent Focus off it will still work a bit”, but it’s pretty obvious from what is written there.

That’s because it was written by, so called experts. Sometimes academics think that if they don’t say the obvious and use a lot of large words, it makes them feel important and even smarter among their peers. Also, it protects them from being wrong. Oh well, it is what it is. I will read those white papers. Thanks for the URL.

Do you use domes or custom molds? I think my voice sounds odd with “hear in noise” because of my non vent mold on one side. I have unequal loss with profound loss in bad ear so i prefer a non vented mold.

I have open domes on both sides.

I have just discovered … while streaming TV with the resound streamer that if you switch to Hear in Noise, it will cut out most of the loud music and sound affects so I can understand the dialog.

Hi,
I’m really enjoying this thread as I got my Pro 30’s two weeks ago and I’m going to my follow-up appt tomorrow.
I asked for a HA specialist for this appointment as my audiologist knew less about the Pro 30’s than I did  .
I’ve had a lot of BT disconnections with my phone (S23 Ultra) and I contacted Jabra support and they said it’s been common with android 14. I had been trying closing/opening the app, or trying to reconnect the offending HA in my BT settings … and ended up having to re-pair.
They suggested just turning off/on the BT … and it’s worked so far … I’ll add that on my phone I’ve had to wait to connect again after turning BT back on.
Why I was chatting to support, I asked about the programs, AI, and Inteligent Focus. She told me that she couldn’t discuss that with me because all programming was determined by Costco. I pointed out that there were two default programs that I could see in the Jabra Enhance instructions and her reply was that both could be customised by Costco to have different features so she said I had to ask Costco about all programing and app features.
I’m not sure if any of this helpful to anyone so far.
I will be asking them tomorrow about when the DNN chip is active and some of the other programs available.

Hi David,
Are you using or creating other programs other than All-Around and Hearing in Noise ?
Can you tell me what the current selection is in Smartfit for your Vivia’s ?
I believe this is a screen shot of options from before the Vivia’s were available

I have All Around, Music, Hear in Noise and Outdoor Selected. You can only have four programs.
