Today I returned to Costco to have my Jabra hearing aids adjusted. I have been wearing them for a couple of months. One problem was getting them fully in my ear canals. The left one would produce extremely loud feedback and I would have to insert it several times to eliminate the squealing. Sometimes, just answering a phone call, or standing too close to a wall would set it off. While my hearing aid specialist was trying to fit them the left one wouldn’t allow her to do the test of the static in each ear. Also, the right one’s microphones clogged up while she was doing the adjustment. I have brought them back a few times to be cleaned when they stopped working. The last time the right one stopped working, I changed both wax filters and that worked restoring the hearing aid. She told me that they will probably be replaced with new ones that have larger openings and screens on the microphone ports. Another poster said that’s what happened to his Jabra hearing aids, but he is outside the six month trial period.
When they come back I will give them another try, and if I keep having issues I will ask her to trade them for another brand. Right now I’m not wearing them and my spouse will let me know if I really need them.
So not the Jabra’s fault as such, how are you clogging the ports and wax filters up all the time, with wax, that’s not gonna be solved with another brand tho is it?
I am having a similar issue with feedback. Here’s what I’m going to try on my next appointment. I am halfway through my trial with the Jabra Enhance Pro 20 Hearing aids. I TRULY like the overall sound quality OF THE AIDS and THE streaming FEATURE off MY I-Phone. They are trying very hard to fix the feedback problem, even calling the manufacture for assistance. Nevertheless, AFTER 5 APPOINTMENTS, the problem STILL remains.
So, I’m GOING TO TRY TO return the Jabra RIC aids and hopefully start anew 6 month trial with THE BTE version. My research shows the behind the ear hearing aids are less prone to feedback than the receiver in the ear type of hearing aid.
As for your earwax problem, the BTE might be better for handling earwax, do a little extra research on the topic. I also clean my ears and hard skeletal earmolds every day to help with earwax.
What’s your thoughts on this?
Do you have the M&RIE microphones in the ears? She was going to remove them, when she discovered that the microphone inlets were clogged. Maybe the M&RIE microphone is causing the feedback.
The Jabra hearing aids are very small and the microphones have two very small holes which get easily clogged, The latest version have larger openings and have screens that can be brushed out more easily. However, the feedback problem may require a different brand of hearing aid or possibly removing the M&RIE microphones.
Ah ha, yes the M&RIE does seem to be a obvious culprit, they are very easy to change out to the standard version tho, but as been mentioned you do need a tight seal to stop feedback in the first place, a build up of wax is another reason you may experience this, your fitter should be able to sort this quite easily, I’ve yet to see anything that mentioned that these models have feedback issues because of small microphone inlets, hopefully you’ll get to the bottom of it all.
You are probably correct that the small microphone holes have nothing to do with the feedback issue. However, there’s one poster on this site has had to have his Jabra hearing aids sent back for repair. His failures may be related to moisture due to to perspiration during exercise. He reported that his returned hearing aids had larger microphone openings.
