For using as a remote control for the hearing aids, I’m guessing a dedicated remote is going to be better (quicker response) than any phone app. As we move to LE Audio standard (I think 2 years is a fairly safe guess, (hopefully sooner) any newer phone should work pretty well for streaming.
Like @cvkemp i have the More 1 aids,but a Pixel 5a android.
I stream phone calls & music using ASHA, and use the ConnecClip mike for handsfree talk back on phone calls.
Range is as good as it gets,2 story house, phone can be in kitchen, and I can answer calls upstairs in front home office.
Android Samsung phone + P90s, zero problems. Love the BT compatability. The P90s work with my tablet, phone, tv connector and even my garmin fenix watch (for music streaming).
And I believe the P90s use LE version of BT to connect to phone, if your phone is compatible.
Having multiple connections and 2 devices connected at the same time is a bonus. I chose P90 over Oticon because of that and also the 2 way HA phone calls. Oticon has an update coming but I’d rather use something that was already available, tried and tested. My 2 pennies worth.
Does the c in cvkemp stand for Casper?
Nope Chuck. and and my home is one that is meant to withstand a major storm, the walls are made out of cider blocks with reinforced steel and concrete, the house was build in the late 70s or early 80s after a major tornado hit this area. My wife and I bought it in 2018.
Thanks for the serious reply.
It was actually a joke on your words of walking through doors and walls like a ghost apparently would. So I used Casper for the purposes of the joke.
sorry it was a bad night for my wife and she isn’t feeling good, no one is.
Well what are you doing here? All my best wishes for your wife and you and whoever else you’re referring to.
My recollection is that that improvement is due to the fact that the TV Connector is NOT using Bluetooth, but a “proprietary signal” possibly an FM frequency. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about that.
I have an android and will never buy an iPhone. Any company that won’t cooperate with law enforcement doesn’t get my business. I also don’t care for how they violate the privacy of their customers which is something Samsung has never done. The apps work fine for me.
Where did you get the idea about practice, apple has been fighting for customers practice for many years. You are not hearing the truth. As an IT Professional and I dealt wi security and practice issues all the time, windows and Google were always the worst for sharing user content, apple always worked with us to secure our data.
Actually my tv connector works a bit different. I dont find it very strong. I only ‘catch’ the signal when i’m basically within sight of the tv which ends up being in the same room. If I walk into an adjacent room or hallway, it drops. I am quite happy with this setup. This way I am only getting the tv connection if I’m watching it, when I walk out I dont have to worry about the tv signal overpowering anything else. The P90s go back into the auto mode automatically when i leave the signal area. perfect.
Thanks. Your observation has helped me.
My impression was that the complaints are not about the signal dropping out when going into another room but about the failure to automatically reconnect when returning to the room, and also dropping out and failing to reconnect when the audio stream pauses when the music or person speaking pauses for a few seconds, and then fails to reconnect automatically upon resumption.
It is an aggravating hassle to have to reach up to one’s hearing aid and reopen and close the battery compartment door, especially since it usually takes two hands to do that, in order to reconnect. In most instances, I actually have to take the hearing aid completely off my ear in order to manage that, which in my humble opinion is a pretty poor implementation of this device. It does not deliver the ease of use impliedly offered.
ah, well i have no experience with anything other than the p90s. I can tell you as soon as i walk back in, after about 1 or 2 secs they are streaming automatically to my HAs again. No intervention on my part needed. This scenario plays out regularly while i am watching a tv show, getting up to use bathroom, go to kitchen, etc. I never have to press anything on the units or via the app. When i’m in the tv room it streams to the aids, when i leave it stops (and i get the chime). walk back in, starts streaming again.
I’m kind of joining this midstream, but some of these issues can vary depending on what type of cable one is using to connect the TV Connect to the TV and how the aids are setup.
Exactly. The copper cable is more likely to lead to drops in my opinion, during quiet segments of shows. The optical cable nails it up as long as there is power to the connector and the optical cable is lit. Leave the room and come back, it is pretty grabby to me. I’ll be somewhere else in the house and it will grab/drop/grab/drop a dozen times in getting something out of the fridge or something. That can be annoying, but it is just doing what it ought to do. I can change program if I’m going to be there a while.
WH
My described problematic experience is using it with:
- audio out from a laptop streaming optical out into an optical cable into the Phonak TV Connector; and
- from a laptop streaming standard audio into an audio to optical converter and then through an optical cable into the Phonak TV Connector.
I don’t watch much TV but I purchased the units with the understanding that they performed equally well from any optical source, not just TV.
How are your aids set up to interact with the TV Connector? On the Target software, there’s 1)Automatic 2)Manual 3)Manual with beep Automatic connects any time you’re in range and the TV Connect is powered up and has something to stream Manual adds the TV Connect as a program whenever you’r in range, etc. and you’ll need to select the program. Manual with beep will notify you with a beep when that happens. If you’re on automatic and your aids don’t automatically connect, I’d say there’s something wrong with aids or TV Connector. If I understand correctly, one of your laptops has an optical out port? I’ve never seen that before in a laptop.
Here is a list of the Macs that had optical out:
Until I recently retired it to my library shelf, mine was a mid-2012 MacBook Pro.
I now more frequently use my 2021 MacBook Air M1 13 which does not have optical out.
