Starkey has a foundation that collects them for people that need them but can’t afford them.
I believe it’s not just limited to the US
I have two sets since 2012, both work and I use the old ones as backups and when working outside. Interesting read, a great topic.
Lions clubs has a history of passing along used eyeglasses and hearing aids. Their web page points here for hearing aids.
Hope this helps. My eye doctor is active in lions club. (She tried to recruit me!) she mentioned a few years ago their recycling program but no details.

Thx. I’ve long heard of that one, but never had a demo that it really operates. Hope so!
Just seen this thread @kevels55
I’ve somehow acquired 6 pairs of fully functional Phonak Bluetooth hearing aids:
NHS Phonak Nathos Nova M (Bolero M70)
Phonak Sky Bolero M70 M(in blue)
Phonak Sky Naida M70 SP (in red)
Phonak Audeo P90-13T (I paid £2k+ for these!)
Phonak Naida M30 SP
Phonak Naida L90 SP
I have a pair of acrylic custom moulds & 2 pairs of custom slimtips. I get some occlusion with the moulds, so I generally wear slimtips with thin tubes with the SP’s. I’m trying to find someone to make me some of these custom Moulds:
I’m definitely a hoarder, and should probably move some of these pairs on
Peter
I now only own 2 pairs of Oticon Xceed 1 UP.
I don’t own any Phonak products anymore, including the Roger System. Sold my Phonak’s and gave back my NHS Phonak’s.
Looking at your revised audiogram Ruth, I would be surprised if you are getting much, by way of contextual information as your hearing, has rapidly declined! My heartfelt sympathy for your obviously distressing situation, with your hearing, and your general health, it cannot be easy!!! Take care, and much love xx
Thanks Kev.
I don’t understand much but it’s much better if it’s via Bluetooth or via the TV Adaptor.
At least you are smiling Ruth… In my book, laughing in the face of adversity, is always a good thing, in some instances, you can’t do anything other, well apart from crying! You are a brave lass, and I wish sometimes, I had a magic wand, to rectify some of the injustices of this world, but alas no, no wand… I wish you well, in the fond hope, life will be a little kinder! Kev xx
Oh yes, always smiling.
Made a year without any unplanned hospital stays which is good.
The support group that I’ve joined to be with others in the same situation, the person who started the group, he was diagnosed in the 1950s and is still alive so I’m hopeful. He was told terminal as well.
Hope the wind isn’t too bad where you are. Apparently Ireland had 114mph gusts.
That is an excellent attitude Ruth… Keep living your life, your way! As far as the wind goes, it is a little breezy up here, but nothing really bad… Once you have lived in Shetland, 114 mph, are in effect a common occurrence in Shetland, I have seen, and walked about in wind speed that exceeded 150 mph, on 2 occasions it went off the Beaufort Scale, on one particular New Years Eve in 1992, I was spending the New Year on the Island of Yell, it is close to the Island of Unst, the wind speed on Unst (at RAF Saxa Vord) was recorded at 197 mph (or 317 km/h) Now that is a fair breeze, out at Hogmanay (The Bells) that particular evening, the slates off the roofs were flying about like confetti, being buried several inches into the ground, but being so pissed, I had no fear… In Shetland, everything is constructed to withstand enormous wind speeds, there isn’t many trees, for obvious reasons… Cheers Kev : -)
My new Paradise P90R’s have better battery life than my 3 year old ones did. Warranty replacement–two Paradise P90R’s and one charger. Thanks Phonak!
I complained about my P90’s from first week of use. I think they were defective. Theyre much better now.
I would much rather have replacement batteries. I wear my hearing aids 15 hours a day. Minimum.
I have 2 sets of Phonak aids from my HA years.
Also from my CI journey I have 1 GN Enzo2 and
1 set of GN Enzo 3D. I’m due for a new aid in April/May this year. Time will tell what I’m issued with.
I visited Unst. It had a bus shelter with a library in it! Not many trees in those islands, but great roads
I was only in Unst a couple of times Peter, Baltasound I believe, if memory serves me correct? Most likely drunk when I got there, and even drunker when I left… That wind speed of 197 mph, would have been an all time British record, except for the fact, the wind destroyed the measuring equipment, so it couldn’t be confirmed!!! It is highly likely, that 200 mph was exceeded that night, such was the ferocity of the wind, I am unlikely to experience another night like it!!! Yeah, most of the roads in Shetland are of excellent quality, courtesy of the oil money from Sullom Voe Oil Terminal, Shetland Islands Council (the richest council in the UK) they got a penny a barrel for every barrel of oil pumped ashore, it opened in 1978, average throughput was 400k barrels a day, it had a capacity of 1.2 million barrels a day, nowadays it’s probably around 200k barrels a day or less, that’s a lot of 1 pence’s over 47 years! Hence why, Shetland has probably the best roads in the UK, and an average of 3 cars per household… Cheers Kev
Edit; Shetland Islands Trust Fund, now stands around £200 million in investments, due to accrued oil revenues…
I have 2 sets now–those I wear ev. day, and the previous pair (in 20 years, I’ve had various other pairs, since passed on). The other day I put on my alternate pair which have acrylic ear molds. How clunky and obvious they felt/looked!! The sound was OK, but I didn’t l ike wearing them. My current everyday ones are Jabra EP20s with slim wires, and in the canal (I think you’d say) earpieces w/ 3rd mics. They are about 2 yrs. old. Love them!
My first hearing aid was a single Widex in the ear. It hurt. They had remade it at end of warranty because it squealed when I ate. I used it for 8? Years I hated it
I’ve had 3 pair of Phonak.
Hi Kev,
I was in the RAF stationed at Buchan, Peterhead.
In 1962 or 63 Saxa said their main radar was U/S. The cause was that the wind had blown the main radar aerial (75 feet x 25 feet) off the plinth and over the cliff.
Happy days
Pete
Yeah Pete, it gets a tadge windy in Shetland… I will relate a story, told to me by a friend whom was living in the Knab Caravan Park on New Year’s Eve 1992, now this residential Caravan Park had been in existence for probably in excess of 20 years or more, quite possibly longer, it was heavily fortified, braced down with reinforced concrete & heavy steel lashings, it sat on a cliff close to Lerwick, and had been battered by severe gale 9, storm 10, and the odd yearly hurricane over the years, but it remained intact… That particular evening, my friend had just pored a large dram, for him and his 2 pals, watching the New Year Celebrations on TV, a few minutes before “The Bells” or Hogmanay as we call it, he said he thought a gas bottle had exploded, every window in the caravan blew out simultaneously, the roof disappeared, along with all the walls, and all that was left was him, and his 2 pals sitting on the couch, holding a dram of whiskey each, the caravan park disappeared that night in literally seconds, there were dozens of caravans…All gone!!! Cheers Kev
I have a set of Resound, Phonak, and Jabra aids that are still working well.
I also have a few older ones that do not work.
