In recent years, we have observed that many users of RIC hearing aids, especially children, experience certain issues with their ear molds.
In many cases, the front opening of the receiver is not exposed in the ear mold, which can affect the sound quality of the hearing aid to some extent. This may result in a “tunnel-like” sound effect and make it difficult to clean the receiver when it is blocked by earwax.
In fact, it is possible to design the ear mold with the receiver opening exposed. This approach helps maximize sound authenticity, brings the sound source closer to the eardrum, and improves acoustic gain (particularly in the high-frequency range). It also makes it easier to replace the wax guard.
This design is applicable to both soft silicone ear molds and hard light-cured resin ear molds. The finished product will not be deformed by the receiver and will not affect the fit between the ear mold and the skin.
While universal ear tips are suitable for mild hearing loss, custom ear molds are highly recommended for moderate to severe hearing loss. One of the key advantages is that they ensure consistent receiver placement depth with each use, which is particularly important for children in the language learning stage.
Below are some examples of children’s ear molds.
Thank you.
